Lovedup Lola debuts for the Freedman stable with a plum inside barrier on a heavy track where early position is critical. The 55kg lightweight and inform jockey Damien Thornton (25% recent wins) are major positives. Her trial was encouraging and the stable has a strong debut record. The main risk is inexperience, but the conditions mitigate that.

Light Filled is the most experienced maiden in the field and the clear form reference. She has placed on soft ground and runs consistently around the mark. However, she has never raced on heavy and barrier 6 demands a good ride. Still, she should be in the finish.
Fresh from a spell, she has placed first-up before. The glaring negatives are barrier 13 and a poor heavy track start. If she can cross or get cover, she might grab a minor share.

Packers Journey is the most consistent runner in the race with recent form including a solid 2nd on Soft 7 at Stawell and a close 4th at Bendigo. Drawn perfectly in barrier 4, she should settle handy and is likely to handle the heavy conditions given her soft-track record.
The inside barrier is ideal for the tight Donald track and he should get every chance from the front. However, the step to heavy conditions is a significant unknown.
Premium Return is an interesting value runner. His debut at Caulfield Heath in a metro maiden was only fair, but the drop to country class is a positive. Brad Rawiller takes the reins and from barrier 3 he should get a good run.

Zetheros is the clear top pick based on two close seconds on heavy tracks, drawing the inside barrier, and consistent form. He is the one to beat and should finally break through in this maiden.
Popeye is a consistent improver with a 3rd and 4th in his last two starts.

Phantom's Chase is the most reliable runner in a weak maiden over 2200m. He has placed twice at the distance and ran well on heavy ground last prep. His recent form including a close third at Echuca on Soft 7 and a fourth at Moe on Soft 7 suggests he is ready to finally break through. He maps to settle midfield and should appreciate the step up to 2200m. The main concern is the lack of a win, but this field looks his best opportunity.
Freshwater Fox is a rapidly progressing filly who relished the heavy ground when second at Hamilton (Heavy 10) over 1600m. She draws beautifully in barrier 3 with only 57.5kg and should be able to settle handy. The step up to 2200m is a query but her dam side suggests stamina. Neil Farley's positive recent form adds confidence.
Convaaya is a frustrating maiden but his best form (second at Kilmore, fourth at Geelong on Heavy) is good enough for this field. He has been racing in tougher grades including a Listed race, so this is a clear class drop.
Stepping up to 2200m should suit her breeding (sire Shocking) and she draws the inside gate with a light weight. A small speculative stake is recommended.

Gilchrist & Co (Bm62)
Thurmond boasts the strongest heavy track credentials in the field with two wins on heavy surfaces, including a win over this 2200m trip on Heavy 8. He placed third last start on soft at Geelong, indicating current form. The wide barrier is a concern on Donald's tight track, but his ability to sustain a run on heavy ground can overcome that. He is the most likely winner.
Tsitsipas won on Heavy 8 over 2200m at Hamilton, so the conditions suit. He draws barrier 5, ideal for Donald, and drops from BM70 to BM62, a significant class advantage. His last run on soft was a solid 5th in the same race as Thurmond.
Shogun Express draws ideally in barrier 4 and has proven he can handle heavy tracks with a placing on Heavy 8. He carries a manageable 58.5kg and has been racing consistently in similar grades, finishing 4th and 5th last two starts.
Jenny The Beaver has the best recent heavy form of any runner, finishing 3rd in a BM70 on Heavy 8 and 2nd in a BM66 on Heavy 9. She drops significantly in class to BM62 and carries only 57.5kg. The major concern is barrier 14, which is very wide on Donald's compact circuit.

Mallee Landscapes (Bm66)
The Kill Club is a well-credentialled heavy track mare who looks ideally placed. She won on Heavy 8 at Warrnambool two runs back, jumps from barrier 2 which is a prime draw at Donald, and carries a manageable 57kg. The only slight concern is jockey Tom Madden's dry spell, but her form and suitability to conditions are clearly superior. She can win this.
Come Along Jeffrey comes into this race in career-best form, having won his last two starts on heavy and soft tracks. He has a strong heavy track record (3 wins from 9 starts) and handles the ground well. While he draws wide (8), he possesses early speed to cross and find a forward position. The jockey-trainer combination has been prolific (4 wins from 5 rides together), and he has placed at Donald over this trip previously. The class rise is a query, but his current confidence and fitness are high. He is a serious threat.
Zorro's Flight is a classy type dropping right back in grade after racing in Opens at Flemington and Sandown. However, he resumes from a lengthy spell, steps down to 1200m for just the second time, and has only one start on heavy ground (a placing). Expect him to run well but may be vulnerable to the in-form heavy performers.
Zetalyn represents genuine each-way value in this race. The queries are the heavy track (she has never raced on it) and the slight class rise. However, she gets a light weight, a good draw, and a jockey in red-hot form. Worth a small investment each-way.

CHS Broadbent (Bm62)
Omnic stands out as the best value in this BM62 on heavy ground. Trained by Ciaron Maher, a stable known for placing horses well, and dropping from BM66 company. The 1620m is a query but he has placed over 1600m before and his closing speed suits the moderate tempo predicted.
Timeonlees is a consistent mare who thrives with a run under her belt. She is second-up today, and her second-up record is impeccable: two starts, two placings. Barrier 4 is a huge asset at Donald, especially on heavy ground where inside draws are magnified. While she has never raced on heavy, her soft track form is respectable (0-1-0 from 2 starts). Damien Thornton takes the ride and is riding with confidence. Her recent 3rd at Ballarat at 1500m suggests she is ready to peak.
He is a talented 3yo with early speed and will likely press forward from the wide gate. However, barrier 14 on heavy ground at Donald is a significant hurdle, and he is stepping up 320m in distance, which tests his stamina given his sire Magnus favours sprinting. The Patrick Payne stable is in fine form, and Billy Egan is a top jockey, but the risks are real.
Lisa Lass is the value runner of the race. She has a tremendous record on heavy tracks, with three placings from four starts, including a third in a BM70 at Warrnambool on Heavy 10 – the best heavy-track performance in this field. The barrier 17 is a major concern, but if Tom Madden can slot her in midfield with cover, her finishing kick on heavy is formidable. The class rise is offset by her BM70 placing, and if she gets any luck from the wide draw she can feature.
