His debut run on heavy ground was better than the result suggests given the awkward start and wide trip, and a jump-out win last start shows he is ready. Connections are strong at Mornington.

The best form profile in the field. She has been placed at every start, mostly against similar maidens, and her best runs rate with the better efforts here. Her on-pace style is ideal for Mornington, and she won a jump-out on the track last week.
A debutant with encouraging trial form at Mornington, including a win, and the pick of the barriers. She should be handy from the inside draw at a track that rewards position.
A debutant with a winning jump-out on the course last start, and a stable and jockey who do well together at Mornington. Barrier 4 should see him settle handy.

Evergreen Turf (Bm56)
Ilovediamonds is the one they have to catch. She led and won by a big space last start, gets in light after the claim, and Mornington's short straight strongly favours on-pace runners. The class rise from maiden company is the query, but her map and weight advantage make her the win pick.
The problem is the map: he settles near the rear at a track where that is a major disadvantage, and he carries top weight.
Bifrost has been knocking on the door with two good seconds, and he drops in grade. He will be doing his best work late, but at Mornington over 1000m that is not the place to be, and his record here is poor. He is only a place chance at best.
Party Benefits is the value pick. She has a strong record at Mornington and over this trip, has been trialled for the return, and her trainer has a good strike rate here. The wide draw and long break are risks, but she maps to be handy and is a genuine value chance.

Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives Mdn Plate
The class runner of the field and the one to beat. He ran a strong second over 2400m at Moe, settling mid-field and closing well, and was far from disgraced in a hot staying maiden at Ballarat last time. New visors and a cheeker should have him handier.
The likely leader from a good gate on a track where front-runners dominate, which is a big plus. He's been consistent, placing at his last two over around 2000m. The question is the extra trip - his best form is short of 2450m - and a stable that hasn't had a recent winner.
He's placed over this trip here. The knock is that he settles back and needs luck on a leader-biased track, but his quality makes him a genuine place chance.
A genuine on-pacer who maps to settle handy, which counts for plenty at Mornington. He ran a brave second last start after leading into the straight and has two placings over this course and distance, so he knows the track and trip.

Barmah Park Restaurant & Cellar Door Mdn Plate
The one to beat. She maps to settle second or third from a nice middle gate, exactly where this Mornington sprint is won, and she brings the strongest recent form in the race — a fighting second at Pakenham over 1100m and a sound first-up run behind the leader. Second-up now she should be sharper, the stable is going well and is only saddling her today.
From gate six he can settle handier than he did there. The query is a low-profile stable, but the confidence behind him is impossible to ignore.
From barrier one with genuine speed she should lead or box seat, and Blake Shinn, who has an excellent record at this track, takes the ride. She has had two jump-outs here, the latest a strong second over 900m, and she is a well-bred speed filly out of a top racemare. Unraced, so she must handle the pressure, but the setup is ideal.
He has the best exposed form of the raced brigade — a close second at Donald over 1200m and a sound third at Bendigo last start — and blinkers go on first time to sharpen him up. Michael Dee rides for a strong stable.

3MP Mdn Plate
He was beaten only a length over 1500m last start and that run was strong enough to win a maiden. He should settle handy from a wide gate, which suits this track, and the winkers add a fresh angle. Top weight and barrier 13 are the risks, but the form is the most reliable in the race.
He has the speed to lead uncontested and the Mornington bias favours that. The concern is the step up to 1500m, since he tired when leading at 1400m last start. The blinkers could help him hold on.
A lightly raced colt from a top stable that was solid on debut. He gets a good draw and a light weight, and a step up to 1500m should help.
Gilgeous is the most convincing horse in the race on form. Twice around 1500m he has finished second, beaten next to nothing at Bendigo on good ground after leading turning for home, and his debut run over 1200m was a genuine winning display before he was taken back from a bad gate. He settles in the first three, which is exactly where you want to be at Mornington, and he is fitter third-up. The draw and a quiet stable are the only knocks, but nothing in this field has his credentials.
A consistent 3yo who ran second at Kilmore and has the early speed to sit handy in a race without much pace. The gear changes may sharpen him. The trainer's poor Mornington record is a concern.

Sportsbet More Places (Bm56)
Brutify has the best and most consistent form in this field. She has run close to a winning standard in every recent start at BM56 and has placed in four of her last five. She has the most early speed in the race, and no other runner has a strong leading record, so she should find the front despite barrier 15. Leaders and stalkers win far more often than backmarkers at Mornington, which suits her.
Lope De Lardo is progressing. The step up to 1500m should suit, since he was rallying late over 1200m. The worry is the map: from barrier 10 he is expected to settle back, and backmarkers rarely win at Mornington. He sat handy last start, so if he does that again he is the main danger.
He won his only start at Mornington over 1500m and ran two close seconds before his spell, so on ability he is a genuine BM56 contender. But he is first up and has not won fresh, and he is expected to settle near the tail on a track where backmarkers win only about 4% of the time.
On the map, Egerton Reef has the best run of the outsiders. From barrier 3 he should sit behind or just off Brutify, the position that wins most races at Mornington. He has also run well over 1500m.

Peninsula Kubota Hcp (C1)
She's the clear form pick. She won a 2yo Open Handicap over this track and distance on debut, leading all the way and winning easily, and it was a run that would win this race. Her trial and jump-out on Good tracks suggest she's ready, and the jockey–trainer pairing has been strong.
Her C1 third at Bendigo was strong given she raced wide throughout, and she won her Mornington jump-out on a Good track in her lead-up. She's more of a placegetter than a winner on her record, and the stable is cold, but she has the run of the race.
He was dominant at Mornington last start, sitting outside the leaders and pulling away in a run that would win this race comfortably. Before that he tended to get back, and his two jump-outs since were quiet.
She's overpriced on what she showed winning on debut over this track and distance, where she sat outside the leader and kicked clear. Her last-start fade on a Heavy track is easy to forgive.

Sportsbet Race Replays (Bm56)
She should settle handy from a good draw, in a race with no obvious front-runner. Winkers add a mild plus.
Diamanda won last start leading at Cranbourne and now gets a big weight drop and a claimer. She has a good record on firm ground and should be on-pace, the position that wins most at Mornington. She is aged and her last two Mornington runs over further were poor, but this is a drop in distance and class.
Russian Benefits has won twice at Mornington over this trip and draws well. Her last start at Moe was unlucky when she was held up for a clear run, and she drops in class today. She does not have a leader's speed and carries 60kg, so she needs some luck in running.
Ranakye gives plenty of early speed in a race that looks short of true leaders. His last Mornington run, leading until the final 50m, was strong. The poor runs since are partly explained by a quick backup and a flat run at Kyneton.
