The clear form pick of the race. Placed at every start, including a tough second over this trip at Swan Hill on soft ground and a narrow defeat at Warracknabeal where she led and kept giving.

Improving with racing. His last two runs — a closing fifth at Mildura and a two-and-three-quarter length fifth over this trip here — are his best yet, and he was running on strongly through the line on both occasions. Toby Lake has a sound record at this track and gate two should see him travel sweetly just off the speed.
Two smart city-standard placings two and three runs back, especially at Ballarat where she did everything but win, and her latest run is easily excused — she was trapped outside the leader on a bog and the rider reported she never travelled. Back on a Soft 5 she gets the ideal trail behind the leader from gate one for Harry Coffey, who rides this track well.
That was the best run of her career and she backs up three weeks later with the same rider aboard and a good gate.

Magna Sententia made a real impression on debut, settling well back before charging home to be beaten under a length at 1200m on a Soft 5. The wide draw is the obvious query and he will need the race run to suit, but his talent looks above maiden grade and he is the one to beat.
Carnevale was thrown in the deep end as a juvenile and now finds a maiden after a tidy third at Seymour over this trip on soft ground, where he came from near last. The class drop is significant and he is fitter second-up. He can be slow out and will need to settle closer from gate nine, but his best form reads well above this level and he should be in the finish.
Celtic Spy brings the strongest raw form lines in the race, having placed at provincial level on soft ground and been competitive in better company as a juvenile. Waterhouse and Bott have him fit enough off two jumpouts and Meech can use his early speed.
King Koruna is the honest each-way option. He has been around the mark in every run, including a close third at Mildura over this trip and a sound effort in far stronger two-year-old company on a wet Caulfield track. If he can hold a handy position he will be in the fight at the business end.

A premier yard has the leading local rider booked and he is drawn to get the right run just off what should be a moderate tempo, in a maiden where the exposed form is thin.
The safest exposed form in the race: placed in six of eleven, beaten small margins over 1200m in each of her last three, and she maps to sit right on the speed from gate seven. Her form lines are the pick of the raced brigade.
Improving three-year-old who came from well back to run second over 1200m at Mildura last start, hitting the line strongly. He is second-up from a spell, has a form stable behind him and a senior rider engaged.
She maps to settle in midfield with cover and will be running on through the line.

Footts Swan Hill Demolition Group Mdn Plate
The most trustworthy form in a thin maiden: two placings from three starts, including a close third over 1200m at this track and a closing third at Mildura last time after blowing the start. He travels in the first half and keeps finding the line, and with no obvious leader engaged the tempo should keep him within striking range turning for home. The step to the mile is the one unknown, but his pattern says he will see it out. The one to beat on what has actually been produced.
Payne's horses are usually fit and well placed, and the Egan booking is a positive. Respected as the main danger rather than the top pick.
He gets the right setup here: a small field, a slow tempo and a map that has him in the leading pair, so improvement is plausible. The concerns are that he raced keenly last time and now tackles a soft track and a mile for the first time, so he is a place prospect rather than a confident winner.
He has placed in two of three starts and the stable has only this runner.
He has been costly but his Colac third over a similar journey is solid form for this grade, and last start he did plenty of work without cover and was entitled to weaken. From a good gate he should settle closer in what shapes as a slowly run mile, which is exactly the setup he needs.

The standout Swan Hill horse: three wins from six at this trip here, two on soft ground, and his July win came after being forced wide throughout. Last start he was four deep without cover in a stronger grade, so forgive the margin as he drops in class. From gate six he can settle in the first half behind a moderate tempo and be produced late. The only niggle is a stable without a recent winner, but his own record here is the best in the race.
Last time he gave away ground at the start and never got into the race, which is best forgotten. From the inside gate he should lob into a lovely trailing spot behind the leader and be produced on the turn. The query is a first look at soft going.
Beaten a neck in a similar race at Horsham last start, producing the strongest closing effort of anything in this field, and he was game in the same grade two runs back after racing wide without cover on soft ground. He maps to sit on the speed from the outside gate and is well suited by a moderate tempo. The knock is that he has had seven tries on soft going without a win and is yet to salute at this trip, but he is rarely far away.
An honest mare who has won two of her last four, including a soft-track success, and she has three wins at the 1000m. She settles in the first half and is fit and in form.

Pooles Accountants & Tax Specialists (Bm62)
He has twice gone within half a length of winning over this trip at Swan Hill, once on a soft track when he came from near last, and his closing effort in last month's second in this grade was the strongest in the race. He handles give in the ground, John Allen gets on well with him and he stays. The one query is a steady tempo leaving him too much to do.
The class runner of the field. He was beaten two and a half lengths into second in a much stronger race over 3100m on soft ground last time while lumping a big weight, and he drops sharply in grade and weight here. He was only fair over this trip at Swan Hill in September when one-paced, but he is a genuine stayer with good wet-track form and the stable is going well enough. Top weight is the worry.
A lightly raced mare on the improve. She won her maiden at Ballarat over 2000m with a sharp turn of foot, then ran well at 2100 on the synthetic. Her latest run is a forgive — wide gate, last on the turn in a stronger race on a soft track. Stepping to 2400m looks ideal for this staying type and she has the best late dash in the race. Her get-back style in a steadily run race is the knock.
She drops out of much stronger company after a close third over 3100m on soft ground and a sound fourth in this grade at Warrnambool. She has won twice over this trip, has enough speed to settle handy in a slowly run race, and her soft-track placings show she handles the going. Two previous failures at this track and a cold stable and jockey record here are the negatives.

McLardy McShane Insurance Swan Hill (Bm62)
Switch Hit has been placed in each of his last three starts, was beaten only a head last month at the trip, and has ability on the soft. The wide gate is a worry, but he should find a handy midfield spot in a moderate tempo. The best form chance in the race.
He has genuine ability at this level. But he's a maiden-plate winner with no soft-track success and a cold stable, and he's shorter than I'd rate him.
Dealer Sing should lead in a moderate tempo and has won on soft, so he has a fair chance. He is lightly raced and has only two starts, with a poor last run and a big spell. The 13 gate will make crossing difficult, but the lead should be available. A prominent chance with some risk.
Callistemon is a tough mare who loves the soft, with a win in this grade over the trip. She was blocked for room last start at Swan Hill and still ran on solidly. She should get a nicer run this time.

Bottle-O Xmas Races Friday 20th November Book Now (Bm62)
She is the most likely winner: a progressive mare who resumed with a sharp win at this grade, has won second-up before and maps to sit just off what shapes as a modest tempo. Coffey rides this circuit better than most.
He brings the strongest wet-track credentials at this level - he led and was only worn down late at Bendigo on a soft track in the same grade. With no genuine front-runner engaged he should control a moderate tempo from a good gate. The knock is that he has repeatedly found one or two better when in front.
Big drop in class from three-year-old filly features into a country grade-62, and she has won on soft and ran well at Caulfield on rain-affected ground. The concern is style: she settles a long way back and this is not a track that rewards that. Capable of figuring if she is ridden closer.
My value play. He produced the best winning effort of anything in this field last start, fighting on after being taken on wide, and he drops weight into this grade with the inside gate to settle handy. The flip side: that was a weak grade, both his wet-track runs this preparation were plain and his stable has never won here.
