Gets the run of the race. There is almost no early speed engaged and he should find the front comfortably and dictate a muddling tempo over the mile. He boxed on for third at Albury two starts back and was only collared late after racing outside the leader last time. Fit, racing well and the stable/jockey pairing is solid. The one query is he is yet to place at the trip, but with an uncontested lead he can steal this.

The form horse of the race and clearly the stable's pick. Ran second two starts back then two close-up fourths, the latest after being held up badly before getting clear late. The knock is the map — he settles near last and there is little early speed, so he will need the leaders to come back to him.
The query runner, but there is a case. She was badly held up at Wodonga last start and wide throughout at Seymour before that, so her two failures can be excused. She has run to a good standard previously and settles handy from a nice draw, which matters in a race with no real pace. The obvious concern is she is a maiden of eleven starts with a thin placing record, so a place is the safer play.
Clearly the best-performed horse in this field: a six-time placegetter from 15 starts who drops out of Class 1 company into a maiden. His last two runs, at 1400m and 1650m in stronger grade, were both close-up and full of merit, and his mile record is the strongest on offer. The wide gate is the obvious risk, but he maps to settle midfield and should prove too strong late.
He was beaten under a length when leading over a mile two starts back and holds a fitness and racing-pattern edge over most of these. The knock is 15 starts without a win and a habit of fading once the pressure is applied.
Only two runs in but closed off strongly last time after being taken back from a wide gate, and stepping to the mile should suit. He has a top hoop in McDougall and a stable-and-jockey pairing striking at a good rate.

Gold Decree is the model of consistency in maiden ranks, with placings at Corowa and Wagga, but has repeatedly failed to finish the job. The light weight, claim and a map that suits on-pace types give a good chance of making the frame.
Denbury ran a creditable third over 1300m at Wagga last start, finishing on strongly after an awkward start, and is the most proven performer over today's trip. He can sit handy from the wide gate in a moderate tempo with no dominant leader. Top weight and a wide draw are minor concerns in a compressed weight scale. Others have either failed to fire or are unraced, so he gets the nod on form.
Duke Of Zhou has raced consistently in maiden company with a placing at Wagga that was among the best of the form here. Weight and a wide barrier are drawbacks, but his midfield tactics suit a moderate tempo, so he is worth a speculative investment.

His placing at Kilmore is the strongest form line in this field, and he has the speed to settle handy from a middle gate. Brodie Loy is a strong booking and the stable has had success here. He is first-up with a modest fresh record, and his last two runs were disappointing, but both had excuses on unsuitable ground.
An improving filly who ran a much better race last start when third at Albury. She has natural speed and should be prominent from the wide draw, and the light weight with a claim helps. The concern is the outside gate and the stable's poor winning strike rate, but she is second-up and open to further improvement.
A filly who has been close up in both runs over shorter trips and looks suited by 1000m. She gets back in her races, so she will need the tempo to help, but she has been finishing on and the stable is in good form.
Clearly the class runner of the field. She has been placed in stronger provincial maidens at Kembla Grange and Hawkesbury, and one of those runs on good ground over 1000m was up to winning standard. She drops into a weak country maiden and has the turn of foot to handle a muddling tempo.
A debutante from a stable that knows how to produce a first starter. She has the inside draw, trialed nicely for second, and is by a sire known for speed.

Naughtin Developments (Bm66)
The one to beat. He put three wins together last prep, including a sharp 1000m success, and returns off a trial win that says he is ready to go. From barrier three he can settle just off what shapes as a steady tempo and be strong late.
The class runner of the field, dropping out of far stronger city and country races. He won here over this trip a few starts back, swooping from last, and has a strong record when fresh. The knock is the top weight and his get-back style in what looks a moderate-tempo contest, so he may give away too much start to be a winning hope.
A model of consistency in this class, having finished close up at her last several starts without quite breaking through. She drops to a light weight, draws well and should race handier than most, which suits the likely tempo.
He drops in class and gets weight relief from the claim.

Federation Stell And Industrial Country Boosted (Bm58)
He is fit, can sit handy in a moderately-run race and the stable knows Corowa well. The jump up to Bm58 and extra weight are the question marks, but he is the most likely winner on form.
Vinari is a reliable Bm58-level mare who has been winning or placing in this grade and ran a creditable fourth at 1300m last start after racing on the speed. She should get a handy trip from barrier 4 and has few excuses on pace. Better suited to a place-leaning play as she is not a dominant finisher.
Star Empire has solid form at this level and gets a natural position on the speed in a moderately-run race. His win at Cootamundra was strong and he ran a respectable sixth at Canberra after being hampered.
Sundrop is a regular placegetter at Bm58 level with plenty of evidence of finishing power, and her last four runs were all at or near the standard needed here. Untried at 1300m, but worth an each-way play.

Balldale Hotel (Bm58)
Has the strongest mile profile in this field — a seven-time winner at 1600m who broke through last start over this trip and grade after leading all the way. Draws to be in the firing line from barrier three and is the quickest out of the blocks. With only a couple of genuine speed horses engaged he can dictate a steady tempo, and after the claim he is well placed.
The most reliable finisher in the race. She ran a big race for second last start over this trip and grade after being severely held up, and her recent runs are the strongest in the line-up. She has been unlucky more than once, which is why she has fewer wins than her ability deserves. From a good draw she should settle midfield and be surging late. Hard to see her out of the finish, though the win is the query given how rarely she gets her head in front.
The knock is that he steps up from an easier grade, has only a modest overall winning record and a thin strike on good ground.
The improver of the field. A lightly-raced gelding who won last start with a sweeping finish and a performance that says he is above the grade he is stepping out of. Proven on good ground, from a stable going well and with handy weight relief from the claim.

Waldron's Corowa IGA Hcp (C1)
The most reliable form horse in the race. She has placed in six of eight starts and comes off two tight Class 1 seconds in Victoria, the latest when she led over 1300m at Bendigo and kept giving to the line after being headed at the 200m. Drawn to get the run of the race just behind the speed from gate two and meets nothing stronger than she has been racing. The concerns are the first try at 1400m, a yard that has been quiet, and a thin good-track record, so she is a narrow rather than emphatic top pick.
The natural leader and the horse most likely to control the tempo. From gate four he should find the front comfortably in a race without obvious early pressure, and his two previous first-up runs have both been placings, so the break should not be a problem. He has won over 1400m and drops in the weights. The knock is that his best efforts have come on soft and heavy going, with only one start on a good surface and no win there, so he is one to back each-way rather than with full conviction.
An improving mare who won her maiden at Wagga in good order before being beaten three and a half lengths in a Class 2 at the same track last time, a run that reads better than the margin. She drops back into a Class 1 here and the jockey-trainer pairing has been productive. She has the early speed to work across from the wide gate and sit handy, which is the right place to be with the tempo only moderate. The doubts are the first try at 1400m and having to cover ground early, so she is a place-first proposition.
She has finished third over this course and trip and has won at 1400m, and she now drops out of Class 2 company into a plain Class 1. Second-up from a spell, drawn in three and with enough gate speed to take up a handy position, she maps ideally in a race where the tempo is only moderate.
