Dark Fae is the clear form anchor. She was runner-up over this 1200m at Townsville on July 14, then finished third in a stronger 1400m maiden on August 1. Maps to settle handy from barrier 5 and should be within striking distance at the 400m. Whiteley's 18% track strike rate is a positive.

Okay Zoomer has been a model of consistency with three straight top-three finishes at Townsville, including a third over this 1200m on June 22. He finished ahead of Dark Fae in the August 1 1400m maiden and again meets her 1kg better. Ivo Fry's familiarity is a plus and he maps to settle midfield with cover.
Overland is the stable-confidence runner with Ryan Wiggins aboard, a 17% jockey-trainer combination at Townsville. He has been around midfield without threatening in two runs at 1200m, but his 1000m third on June 16 shows he can be competitive when fresh. Barrier 6 and a handy map give him every chance to improve on recent efforts. The lack of a genuine 1200m placing is the main concern, so he rates behind the top two but still ahead of the rougher hopes.
The step to 1200m should suit her finishing pattern and Nathan Thomas is in good riding form. The wide barrier 13 is a negative, but she has early speed to cross and is building fitness.

Journalism is the form horse of the race. He has won two of his last three starts, including a 2000m Open at Mackay, and followed up with a close third in this same race at Townsville on 8 August. He maps well from barrier 2, has strong Good-track statistics and the Sewell partnership is proven.
He has the best Townsville 2000m record in the field and will appreciate a slowly run race from barrier 6, where he can take up a forward spot. However he finished 6th in this exact race last start and is asked to carry 61.5kg. He remains a genuine place hope and winning threat, but his recent inconsistency leaves him behind Journalism on form.
The Penske File is the value of the top three. He has a genuine staying profile with two wins from eight attempts at 2000m and returned to form with a close 5th in this race last start, ahead of Smart Legend. His 54.5kg weight is a significant advantage over the principals and he maps to race prominently. The query is whether he can convert Open-class placings into a win, but he is the clear third pick.
Kureder is the value runner. He has not fired at Townsville yet, but the 2000m trip is shorter than his winning distances and he gets Ben Kennedy, who strikes at 30% here.

Lean Eagle rates the strongest winning chance on a Townsville profile that rewards forward runners with proven course/distance form. His 1200m record at this track (2 wins from 4) and light 57kg offset the awkward gate, while Wiggins' excellent 63% strike rate on the horse adds confidence. The recent 4th was a sound run behind a hot tempo.
The inside draw and economical map are positives. However, she is asked to carry top weight 60.5kg and has no Townsville 1200m form, while her 1200m record is only 2-from-9.
Hellish owns the best Townsville 1200m strike rate in the field and has already won this race in July, so he cannot be ignored. Expected to roll forward and control a moderate tempo, he could prove hard to run down. However, his last two runs have been poor and he again carries 60.5kg. He is a place chance and live danger rather than the primary win selection.

Faraway Downs has shown enough in two Open placings at this track to be the most reliable form anchor. He beat Betterlucknexttime home over 1400m here in July and now carries the same low 54kg while Kennedy is riding in form. The 1609m failure rates as a distance excuse and back at 1400m he maps nicely from gate 4.
Betterlucknexttime is the clear class runner and the map should play into his hands with no natural leader engaged. If he crosses to the front from gate 3 he can control a slowly-run 1400m. The concern is the booking of Amy Graham and the fresh 59kg, while his last start was poor. He still rates the principal danger to Faraway Downs and is worth saving on for place purposes.
She is consistent enough to be in the finish, especially with 54kg and the ability to sit midfield from barrier 6.

Airwaves is the strongest race-shape and class play. He ran well in an Open 1400 at Townsville two starts ago and now drops well below that grade. The inside draw and likely slow tempo should allow him to control the race from the front, while the cross-over nose band may help him focus. His Good-track record is a minor query, but the significant class drop outweighs it. He is the most probable winner.
British Gem arrives on the back of a maiden win at this track and distance, and her provincial NSW form prior to that was encouraging. From barrier 6 she can settle midfield and be closer at the 400m than some of her rivals. The class rise is a concern, but her profile suggests she is still improving.
Looming One is difficult to ignore given his consistency and Townsville record, including multiple 1400m placings. A close second last start confirmed fitness. However, his inability to win on Good ground and modest overall win strike rate make him a place chance rather than a confident top selection. The projected map may leave him with work to do, so he rates behind the top two win hopes.
Redlights On is the value runner. His 1400m record is excellent, with three wins from five attempts, and he returns to a far more suitable trip and grade after a poor run over 2000m. The barrier and pace map suit him, and he has previously won a similar Restricted 55 over 1400m on Good ground.

He retains Adam Sewell, draws the right gate and should be camped just off a slow tempo.
His last-start 2000m failure can be forgiven as the 1609m is clearly his trip. The query is the jockey's recent strike rate and Bluebird Bay's tendency to place rather than win, which is why Lone Force is marginally preferred.
He will need a kind run from barrier 9 at topweight, but his Good-track strike rate and consistent effort against stronger company make him the value way into the race.

Mitavite (Bm65)
Briginshaw has the ideal Townsville sprint profile: barrier 1, a low weight and the ability to race handy. He won his maiden on Good ground and followed with a close third in BM55 company over this track and trip. The step to BM65 is a query, but the map, stable confidence and upward trajectory outweigh that concern.
Dalt Jaz brings the strongest recent form line from this exact track and trip, finishing third in the corresponding BM65 before winning a BM70 over 1000m. His racing pattern gives him enough speed to overcome the awkward draw, and he is proven at the distance. The wide barrier is the main risk, but his consistency, fitness and rider strengths keep him high in the winning calculations.
Fabulean has the highest raw ability in the field, coming from Open and Listed company, but she is first-up over 138 days and has minimal experience at 1000m. Her first-up record is not convincing and she may be better suited to longer trips.
Time To Prophet is a genuine Townsville 1000m specialist who maps well from barrier 5 and is second-up, a pattern that has produced a win and a placing previously. Her last-start failure came first-up on Soft 7, and she is entitled to improve sharply on Good ground.
