Ran the strongest race of anything in this field on debut, finishing third over 1100m at Wodonga after settling midfield and looking the winner briefly before peaking late. She is second-up, draws nicely, and the stable has a good record at Wangaratta.

Her closing section was sound and a recent barrier trial keeps her fit.
The most exposed and most consistent runner in the field, and she is improving each time she steps out. Her closing third at Kyneton on soft ground reads well against a bunch of lightly raced maiden rivals and she is the only one with genuine wet-track form. The knock is her slow starts in a race without much speed on paper — she may give the leaders a head start she cannot peg back.
Debuted at Wodonga only nine days ago, jumped well, sat vulnerable in the open and weakened out of contention late. A blowout-only play in a wide-open maiden.

Brings the best recent 1100m soft-track run in the race — a closing third at Hamilton after being restrained to midfield, beaten only half a length. Drawn the inside gate, second-up and fitter, and he has placed twice at this trip. The query is a stable that has yet to fire and has never won here, but on what he did last start he is the one to beat.
Her best runs are up to this class.
A race-fit three-year-old who showed at Swan Hill that he can run to a winning standard on firmer footing, sitting handy throughout. He maps to settle second or third from a good gate and is well weighted for his age. His last run on a heavy track is a clear forgive. The knock is three unplaced runs on soft ground and a stable with no local form to assess.
She also has soft and heavy placings and gets in light.

Foxtrot Charlie is the most dependable exposed runner in a moderate maiden. He races handy, handles soft ground and was close up in stronger recent company, including a sound placing at Geelong. From barrier six he should get the right run without doing too much work. The concern is that he has had eight chances without winning, but his consistency and map give him the best winning chance.
Brilliant Bull Ant has the best exposed form for this grade, with close seconds at Bendigo and Ballarat and a solid soft-track record. He was below his best at Seymour last time but had excuses and is better judged on the prior three runs. The wide gate means he will need luck, but he is a proven placegetter at this trip and looks overpriced.
The Freedman stable knows how to prepare a first-starter, and the three-year-old gets weight from the older horses.
Lightly raced four-year-old who produced the standout run in this field at Seymour, sitting deep without cover from a wide gate and still fighting on for third. A close second at Pakenham before that confirms he is going the right way. He maps to settle just off what should be an even tempo from a good draw, has already handled soft ground, and while 1300m is a slight query, his upside is clearly the highest of the raced brigade.
The only runner in the race with proven form at this track, trip and going combination — third here over 1300m on soft ground before a close second at Echuca over the same journey. She is fresh after a long break but has been readied with two jumpouts at Flemington, and her stable is in great form.
Tallingas Diamond is an improving three-year-old filly who ran her best race last start when closing strongly after a wide trip.

The most dependable form in a thin maiden: two narrow seconds and a last-start third over the mile at Seymour where she was briefly held up. She has placed on soft ground and at 1590m, and the modest tempo should let her settle midfield and produce her run. Still a maiden after 14 starts and her rider is searching for a winner, but she has been beaten by small margins and this is no stronger.
Gelded since, he now drops into a country maiden on 57kg. The doubts are the rise to 1590m for the first time, a stable going quietly and a habit of settling a long way back.
Lightly raced and hard fit, she sat outside the leader at Ballarat over 1500m last time and was only worn down late, beaten a couple of lengths. Drawn to get the right trail behind the speed, she is from a stable with a good record at this track. No placing in four starts is the obvious knock, and she needs to prove she can finish off at the trip.
Produced the strongest closing effort in the field last start when third at Wodonga over 1400m, making ground from last. This track has been unkind to leaders and kind to horses coming from off the pace, which suits her pattern.

Consistent five-year-old who has been racing, and placing, in Class 1 company over a mile and now drops into an ordinary maiden. He drew wide and was snagged back at Wagga last start before running on strongly, so the run is better than it reads. From gate one he should settle in the first three behind an honest tempo, and he is proven on soft ground. The only real query is the step to 2000m for the first time.
Progressive three-year-old with the standout last-start performance in the field, closing hard from the tail on soft ground to go down by a whisker. He gets weight off the older horses, is bred to run 2000m and has been improving with each run.
A genuine stayer who is finally getting out to a trip that suits, having placed over 2200m and 2400m last preparation. Her Warrnambool fourth was full of merit — she was held up and only got clear late, and she had two of today's rivals behind her. Third-up at 2000m is her go. The wide barrier and a yard that is struggling for winners are the negatives.
An improving mare who finally got the trip and the wet surface she wants last start, holding on well over 1856m. She is from a stable that is going better than most here and she maps to get an economical run just behind the speed in a race without a genuine front-runner.

The Mansman comes off a strong second at Kyneton over 1856m on soft ground where he was held up before charging home. He drops from BM62 company and looks well placed at 2000m. His place record is excellent and he maps to get a nice run just off the pace.
Catalona is better than her last-start fifth suggests; she was trapped wide throughout at Kyneton. Two starts back she produced a strong late charge to just miss at Echuca on soft ground. She is lightly raced and open to improvement, but the 2000m trip is a query and her stable is quiet. She looks a solid place prospect.
Super Paradise drops in class after a better run than his seventh at Albury suggests, where he was close to the pace and stuck on well. He has won twice on soft ground and should appreciate the class relief.
King Kauffo is an improving four-year-old who won his maiden on soft ground and has been placed over 2000m. His last start second in a weaker race had excuses when he raced keenly and was steadied.

Vale Brian Creed (Bm56)
The most reliable wet-track miler in the race. Back in grade, on a surface he relishes, he only has to carry the steadier and get clear running.
He turned in easily his best run of the prep last start when charging home for second over the mile at Bendigo, and the drop in class on a track with some give holds appeal with Rawiller steering. The concern is that he is still unplaced on soft ground in three attempts, and from gate 12 he will be giving them a start with only a moderate tempo in front. He is preferred as the quinella/place type rather than a straight-out win.
He is a second-up horse with a much better record at this stage of a prep than first-up, he maps to sit just behind a moderate tempo from a good gate, and he has a soft-track placing at this trip on his record.
The knock is that he has never won at this distance and can pull hard and leave himself with nothing in the straight.

Christmas Party @ Wangaratta - On Sale Now (Bm56)
Black Adam is the safest form pick. He has won three times on soft ground, is likely to lead from barrier nine and drops out of stronger BM58 company. His recent fourth at Kilmore was honest after sitting outside the winner, and he has placed at Wangaratta before. The top weight is a concern, especially if Lujaego pressures him, but his wet-track class and tactical speed make him the one to beat.
Lujaego shares favouritism and is the obvious map horse. She settled handy from gate three and was beaten only a length last start at Echuca in the same grade. She is consistent and drops from stronger mares' races, but the 1300m and a sole soft-track run are queries. I prefer her to Vaderlee, whose wet-track and second-up record is off-putting.
Tipsy Gypsy is a second-up mare with a win and two placings from five soft-track starts. She ran on from last at Ballarat last start and drops from BM62 company. The 1300m is new, and she will need luck from off the pace, but the Wangaratta recent pattern has favoured closers.
Wallaby Jack is the value play. He has won two of three at 1300m and both were on soft ground, including a tough Echuca success. His last-start eighth over 1000m was a fitness run, and he drops back to a suitable trip with a light weight. The wide gate and ordinary second-up record are risks, but at 34 dollars he is worth an each-way ticket.

Melbourne Cup Day @ Wangaratta (Bm56)
Royal Turf is the most convincing form pick. He drops from stronger BM64 company, has wet-track form and ran on strongly when third at Mildura two starts back. Patrick Payne and Billy Egan have a strong record together, and the likely fast tempo should suit a horse settling in midfield. The main concern is his wide draw and tendency to race keenly, but his class and recent performance stand out in this grade.
However, she carries top weight, has not placed on soft ground and will settle back in a very fast race.
I Am Algadon is a lightly raced 3yo with a win over this trip and a 2kg claim. Her last-start failure came on a heavy surface and can be forgiven, and she should settle midfield and get first run on the closers.
She ran on strongly for second at Moe last start and has a good soft-track record with two wins and seven placings. The very fast tempo should suit her get-back style, and she carries a light weight. She lacks wins at this trip and her stable is out of form, but she is overpriced on recent form.
