His only two hurdle runs produced a win and a second, and his wet-track credentials are strong.

He has the stamina and inside barrier to be dangerous at 3100m on Soft 6, but the quick back-up after a flat run and lack of a 3100m start are question marks. A genuine place chance behind the top two.
Benjamin beat most of these rivals when winning the Maiden Hurdle over this course and distance on Aug 1. That was the strongest single form reference in the race and he should be sharper with that run under his belt. Heavy-ground success suggests Soft 6 will not be a problem. The class rise is a minor query, but he is the most likely winner on the evidence.
His eight hurdle starts have produced five top-three finishes, though no win. Soft ground is fine and he is suited by the staying trip.

Quid is the most likely winner based on proven 4200m Riccarton form and relentless consistency. He was narrowly beaten in this race last year and has placed in seven of eight hurdles, chasing home Affordable over 3100m last start. The extra 1100m and the 4.5kg weight swing over Happy Star strongly favour him. Barrier 8 is the main query but in a small field he should settle in striking range.
Affordable is the form horse and the main danger, having beaten this exact opposition over 3100m at Riccarton on 1 August. He looks progressive and is well weighted, but the rise to 4200m is a genuine unknown after just three starts over jumps. If he stays, he can win; Quid's proven 4200m record tips the top pick the other way.
Happy Star brings the strongest career profile with 15 wins and a 41% jumps strike rate. He beat Quid, Dictation and Bambino when winning the 3000m Woodville Hurdle in July and has a 4200m Riccarton placing. However, his 0-from-7 record on Soft ground is a real concern on a Soft 6 surface, and 70kg top weight makes it harder. Place claims are strong, but win appeal is tempered.
He won the 4200m Te Aroha Hurdle last spring and has a solid soft-track record, including a close second in the 3200m Te Rapa Hurdle in June. His last-start fifth behind Affordable over 3100m looks less impressive, but stepping back up to marathon distance is a major positive.

Wire Rope is the clear form anchor: he led the same 1400m BM75 here last week, beating Belzoni and He's Lucid, and now drops from 58.5kg to 53.5kg while the class rise to Open is offset by the bottom weight. He maps well from barrier 2 and is a genuine soft-ground chance.
Belzoni was narrowly beaten by Wire Rope in the same race last week, but brings superior class to today's Open—he has won Open company on Soft7 and been competitive in Group races. The 4yo is well weighted at 53kg and has a strong 1400m profile.
He's Lucid completed the trifecta behind Wire Rope and Belzoni last week, and his task is made easier by a 6kg weight drop from 60kg to 54kg. He has already won over 1400m on Soft7 and maps kindly from barrier 3. The main caveat is the jockey is not declared in the data, which tempers confidence; however, his weight-adjusted form brings him into the finish and he rates a clear place chance.
Express Coup is overlooked because of the 1400m query and top weight, but the mare has been in consistent form: a Soft5 win, near-miss on Heavy10, and a Riccarton third in her last four starts. Her soft-track record is strong and she maps well from barrier 4.

Gavelhouse.com (Bm75)
She handles heavy and soft ground, is proven over 1600m and maps well from barrier 2. The main concern is a lack of Riccarton experience, but her class edge and upward trajectory make her the most likely winner despite sharing favouritism.
Move On maps beautifully from barrier 1 and has the pattern to be in the first half of the field turning for home. Her dry record at 1600m is the concern — she has placed five times from seven starts but is yet to win at the trip. With strong wet-track form and a good recent second at BM75 level, she is the most reliable threat behind the top two.
He's Lucid is a reliable BM75 performer who has already won at Riccarton over 1600m and was a close third here last start. He should get every chance from barrier 3 and has enough soft-track ability to be competitive. The knock is the 60.5kg topweight and modest career win rate, so he rates slightly below Way Out West but remains a clear winning threat.
Mininjagirl is the value runner because she comes into the race with two straight 1600m wins, including a victory at Riccarton on Soft7. She is well treated with 54kg and has the wet-track profile to handle Soft6 conditions.

Another Won't Hurt is the form horse, arriving on the back of consecutive BM75 wins over 2100m and 2200m on testing ground. Kelly Myers retains the ride and has two wins from three partnerships. The main queries are a first visit to Riccarton and a rise to 58kg, but his stamina, fitness and recent race class make him the most likely winner despite those negatives.
He comes off a strong first-up BM65 win here and barrier 1 gives him every chance to control the race. However, he is yet to win or place on soft going, steps up in class, and backs up quickly, so he rates slightly below the top pick.
Coney Island is a model of consistency, finishing second at Riccarton last week and second at Otaki before that. He has a 2040m soft-track win on his resume and the right staying profile for 2000m. The negatives are a wide gate and a tendency to keep finding one or two too good. He is a solid place chance rather than the primary win pick.
Enterprise Gem has the profile of a value runner: she was third in the same Riccarton race last week, won a BM75 on heavy in July, and has placed over 2000m on soft. Her lack of a Riccarton win is the main knock, but map, distance and wet-track credentials make her worth an each-way ticket.

Racecourse Hotel & Motor Lodge 151st Grand National Stpl
Lord Spencer is the clear form horse, winning his last three starts including the 4250m Riccarton trial where he accounted for Prince Turbo, Invisible Spirit, Brucie and Nedwin. He carries only 65kg, maps well from barrier 2 and has an in-form jockey/trainer combination. The query is 5600m and a modest Soft record, but his jumping class, recency and tactical speed should offset the distance risk.
Nedwin has the strongest overall jumps profile with 10 steeplechase wins and a third in last year's 5600m Grand National at Riccarton. He is the best wet-track performer in the field on Soft records and has placed here. He was only fifth in the 4250 trial but should be much better suited by a true staying test and the extra ground.
He has placed at 5600 previously and is lightly weighted on 65kg. The negatives are his low win strike rate and age, but his consistency and distance form put him firmly in the finish.
He placed third in the Riccarton trial and was second in a 3500m steeplechase two starts ago. The wide draw is a concern, but Riccarton's long straight gives him time to balance and finish off.

Most reliable winning profile in the race: a consistent 7yo who has won this exact Riccarton 1800m Open in March, boasts a 37% place rate on Soft and has placed in five of his last six. He maps favourably from barrier 5 and the Grylls/Wilson combination is a positive. Assessed as the most likely winner.
Prince Alby ticks the key Riccarton Soft boxes: a past 1800m winner here, four soft-track wins and a weight advantage after racing off 53kg in the same G3 last week. Barrier 1 should let Jack Taplin slot in handy, and the stable/jockey combination has a 20% strike rate. Consistency is the concern, but this is a strong place proposition.
Quintabelle is the obvious form horse after her Group 3 win at Riccarton last week, and her strike rate at the track is excellent. However, she is first-up over 1800m, rises 5kg to topweight and switches to a rider who is winless from his last 20 rides.
The value play. Boomtown Boy has two wins from three starts at this exact Riccarton 1800m trip and is far better suited on Soft 6 than the Heavy 9 that beat him last week. He has placed in Open company recently and gets in light at 54kg.

Don Pauly is the most reliable winning chance. He possesses the strongest soft-track profile in the field, has placed in five of his last six starts, and finished third in the key Riccarton form race behind Valley King and Bak De Ace last month. The rise to 1800m helps, the inside barrier gives him every chance to settle in the first half, and his 2000m near-miss proves he sustains a strong gallop.
Valley King is the obvious threat after winning impressively over 1600m at Riccarton last start. His perfect track record commands respect and the extra distance should be within his stamina range. However, his soft-ground record is noticeably weaker than his heavy-track form, and the 2.5kg weight rise plus the query at 1800m make him a place proposition rather than the primary win selection.
Bak De Ace is a progressive stayer-in-the-making who chased home Valley King in the key Riccarton form race. He has the class and scope to be a genuine contender, and the step to 1800m should suit his pedigree. The drawbacks are the wide draw and lack of soft-track evidence.
Pretty Fly is the clear value runner. She comes off a last-start 2200m win, has placed at both Riccarton appearances, and carries an excellent soft-track place record. The drop back to 1800m should suit a mare with her staying strength, while the 54.5kg lightweight and barrier 9 allow her to settle just behind the speed.

Stephanie Murray Mortgages (Bm65)
Mercy is the clear form choice, having run a bold second in the same BM65 grade at Riccarton last week. She has already won over 1400m on Soft5 and the extra distance should suit her pattern. Her wide draw is a concern, but she overcame a wide gate last start and has the tactical speed to find a position.
Ikidunot ticks the key Riccarton form boxes with a soft-track maiden win over this exact 1400m course and a subsequent third in BM65 grade. He is still lightly raced and should appreciate the second-up pattern.
Maria Pilar is a consistent mare who has placed in two of her three starts on Soft tracks and was a close second in a BM75 over 1400m in June. Her last run over 1200m on Heavy9 was below her best, but the return to 1400m and the inside draw should help her settle closer.
Dujour is a track-and-distance specialist who has placed in half of her four Riccarton 1400m attempts. She ran well to be fourth over 1600m here last start and should appreciate the drop back to a more suitable trip on Soft6.

Happy Hire (Bm75)
Guzzler is the clear form horse, arriving on the back of consecutive wins including a BM65 over today's course and distance. The step up to BM75 is a query but he drops in weight, retains an in-form jockey who knows him well, and handles cut in the ground. Barrier 4 and a 5-day back-up from a win give him every chance to confirm the superiority he showed over several of these last week.
Hooray For Harry is the model of consistency around Riccarton, with six top-two finishes from 11 attempts at today's 1200m. He has placed in similar BM75 company on both Soft and Heavy tracks and is drawn to land handy from barrier 2.
Cypress is more about class and course affinity than current exposed form. He is two-for-two at Riccarton over 1200m, including a BM75 success on Heavy10, and should be much better suited here than in his last two soft-ground runs away from home. The query is his 0-from-2 record on Soft going and a wide gate, but third-up fitness and a strong strike rate keep him in the top three.
Her broader wet-track stats are solid and she maps kindly from barrier 5. The main concern is a 76-day freshen-up and an ordinary first-up strike rate, but her fresh record at Riccarton suggests she runs well regardless.
