Under the maiden proxy rule, a debutant is not penalised for absent form: Savage Sequel won its Gold Coast barrier trial over 850m by half a length on Good 4, maps for a soft trailing run from barrier 2, and carries just 54.5kg after the claim. The 162-day gap and complete absence of race data cap confidence rather than eliminate him.

Three genuine leaders over 950m should produce the very fast tempo his closing pattern requires. Barrier 3 helps him save ground before angling out.
The Cavanough stable engaging Rory Hutchings for a country maiden is a meaningful intent signal. The predicted very fast tempo off three leaders suits her closing style, and she has the class edge over most rivals. The concerns are the 47-day freshen without a trial and a map that has her settling near the tail, where Moree's on-pace bias has historically punished runners.
She maps beautifully in fifth from barrier 4, close enough to a very fast tempo to capitalise when the three leaders fold, without being buried at the back like the other closers.

Encampment is the clearest pace runner in the race and maps ideally from barrier 7. Moree maidens overwhelmingly favour horses that race up on the speed, and he has placed over both 1400m and 1405m on Good tracks. His last-start heavy-track failure can be forgiven with the surface back to Good 4.
Her last-start 1400m failure came with genuine interference excuses. However, Moree 1400m maidens are won by runners that settle forward, and she is predicted to be well back from barrier 9.
Moon Treaty is the most reliable placegetter in this field, having finished third over 1400m last start and placing in five of 13 starts at the trip. The barrier is kind and the jockey is riding in strong form. His concern is profile: he normally races from the rear and Moree maidens rarely produce winning backmarkers.
He has placed at 1300m, 1400m and 1500m on Good tracks and has enough early speed to offset barrier 11. With stablemate Encampment likely to ensure an even tempo, Nortoko can sit right on the speed.

Fabs Cuz is the best fit for this Moree Class 1 from a pace and distance perspective. His one previous start over 1600m produced a close third in a Sunshine Coast maiden, and he won over 1890m. Last start over 1400m was a typical first-up fitness-building fifth before today's second-up attempt. From barrier six, Ms Weir can sit on or near the speed and take advantage of Moree's on-pace bias.
Puissance Power is the most progressive form horse in the race. After two close seconds, he broke through in a Tamworth maiden over 1400m, showing the will to win. He is drawn to get a nice run and has the tactical speed to be prominent, which is important at Moree. The rise to Class 1 and the Good track are the main queries, but his earlier run over 2040m suggests the extended trip will not be an issue. He rates the chief threat.
However, his only 1600m start was an 8th, and his predicted settling spot near the tail is not where Moree winners usually come from.
The best-mapped runner in the race. Livewire Lass drops from 1890m staying company back to a mile, carries the lightest weight at 55.0kg with the claim, and jumps from barrier 5 - statistically Moree's strongest draw band at this trip. Her last two runs were narrow defeats while racing on the speed, exactly the pattern this on-pace-biased circuit rewards on weekends. The class relief from Class 2/BM55 to Class 1 is real. She lacks a winning habit, but on tempo, weight and map she is the most likely leader-stalker to hold on.
Broadcast Boogie is an overlooked value runner because she drops back to a Class 1 after competing in Open and Class 2 country races. Her 1600m form line reads 4:1-1-0, and recent efforts have been consistent, including a second at Cobar and a second at Carinda. Barrier five fits the Moree mid-draw pattern, and she should be handier than many of the closers.

The most credible form horse in the race. With three genuine leaders engaged, the predicted very fast tempo sets up perfectly for his finishing burst.
The most consistent runner in the field on strike rate, with a win and two seconds from five starts. Broke her maiden at Warren and then held her own in Class 3 grade, so today is a genuine drop in class. Solid but not the standout.
Finally broke through at Dubbo with first-time blinkers, winning on a Heavy 9 despite being checked near the 200m. The gear change looks to have unlocked something and she is well handicapped at 53kg from barrier 3. The concerns are real: she is stepping up from Maiden grade, has never won on Good going in 12 attempts, and her second-up record shows three starts without a placing. Genuine each-way chance but the profile carries risk in a competitive Class 1.
Second-up he is 2 starts for 1 win, and Ben Looker returns having won on him previously. With a very fast tempo likely, a midfield runner with this closing speed is materially overpriced.

Blue De Beers is the strongest class/form fit. Barrier 2 gives him the tactical chance to avoid being trapped wide. His Good-track record is sound, and second-up improvement is likely. The lack of a 950m run and no Moree experience are concerns, but this looks the right level.
Stepping to Class 3 against several horses with proven higher-grade form is a real query, and barrier 12 adds risk.
Astapor has the clearest class edge in this race, having run third in a Class 6 at Emerald last start before dropping back to Class 3. The major concerns are the 950m distance, no Moree form and topweight.
Star Whisperer is the clear value runner. Two starts back he was narrowly beaten in the same grade as today at Quirindi, and his early speed profile is a strong fit for a sharp 950m. The concern is barrier 15 and the risk of a wide, pressured run when several other horses want to lead.

Moree And District Services Club Showcase (Bm58)
Moon Zone brings the strongest and most reliable recent form into this volatile BM58. Consecutive wins then placings at the trip, including a strong Moree second, plus the ability to finish hard from back of the field make her ideally suited to the projected very fast tempo. Inside draw and proven connections seal her as the form horse most likely to win.
The Confidante maps to sit handy from a perfect mid barrier and brings fresh winning form. Although the genuine speed may test him late, his Moree win and recent honesty at the level make him a clear top-three chance who can capitalise if he controls the first half.
Gold Smiles is a genuine Moree specialist who saluted over this course and distance in BM58 company only a month ago. The very fast projected tempo plays perfectly to his closing style and he maps to get the right run from barrier 4. Reliable place chance and clear winning threat if the leaders overdo it.
Lesgo Don is a confirmed Moree specialist returning from a short spell with a sharp trial. Ideal value each-way play against a volatile BM58 field.

Hibiki Harmony is preferred on the combination of current Open form and map. From barrier 2 she can settle on-pace and take advantage of Moree's bias towards handy runners.
Don Pedro has one of the strongest trip profiles in the field with 3 wins from 10 attempts at 1400m and proven country-Open competitiveness. Drawn ideally in barrier 5 and carrying just 53kg, he maps to settle midfield and make his run at the right time. He was a close second in a Rockhampton Open 1400m in June and only needs to hold that form to be a major player at Moree.
Voracious is a genuine country Open horse who showed his class with a Forbes Open win two starts back. From barrier 3 he should get every chance to race prominently and he has the 1400m form to be competitive. The 61.5kg top weight is the obvious concern, along with no previous start at Moree, but his Good-track credentials and proven ability at this level keep him firmly in the place calculations.
She has won her latest start, is already a Moree winner and remains a lightly raced mare progressing through her preparation. The main queries are the first try at 1400m and the step up to Open company, but her forward pattern from barrier 4 should give her every chance.

Slattery Grays Auctions Moree Town Plate
His last campaign included three consecutive wins, finishing with success in a Tamworth Open and Dubbo BM82, and his Good-track record is outstanding. He has also been prepared with a recent barrier trial. However, he is resuming after a lengthy spell, must carry 60.5kg and is yet to race over 950m. Those queries make him a strong place proposition rather than the top win selection.
Cresta Run maps ideally from barrier 4, giving Rory Hutchings the chance to trail the speed or take it up if required. She was a close second in a Muswellbrook BM74 two starts ago and was far from disgraced in Open company over 1280m. With 55kg, strong Good-track statistics and a Moree win already on her record, she is the best value of the three main selections, although her recent finishing record suggests she may need luck to convert into a win.
Prucia is the clear value runner because her record at this exact track and distance is exceptional: she has won all three career starts at Moree over 950m. The obvious concern is class, as this Open handicap is a clear step up from her recent BM58/BM65 wins, and she may need the early pace to come back to her.
