Maysun brings the best two recent efforts in the race and does it the way this track rewards. She was beaten a nose-length on a Heavy track leading throughout at Bathurst, then finished off strongly at Muswellbrook first time in blinkers. She is the only natural leader engaged, draws in the barrier band that wins most often at Goulburn, and gets a rider and stable that both perform above average here.

The rise to 1400m suits and the stable is very strong at Goulburn.
The classic maiden bridesmaid, but his Tuncurry third was genuinely strong — he did it hard three-wide without cover and was bumped rounding the turn, yet still finished within a length and a half. He races close to the speed, which is exactly the profile Goulburn rewards, and he has handled soft going through his preparation. The 1400m is untried and eight starts without a win is a real caution, so he is each-way rather than a win proposition.
The overlay of the race. His Muswellbrook ninth looks poor on paper but he was last on the fence for most of it and still worked home — a far better run than the placing. He also handled a Heavy track against open company as a two-year-old, so the going is fine.

Radio Goulburn (Bm66)
She has only had two runs but both were at 1100m and both were high quality — a Soft 5 maiden win at Hawkesbury and a narrowly beaten second at Wyong that was arguably the best single effort any runner here has produced this preparation. She draws the barrier band that wins at Goulburn, settles close enough to use the on-pace bias, and is the one horse in the race still improving rather than exposed.
He was second over this course and distance a fortnight ago after doing the donkey work, he has won on a Soft 5, and he draws the barrier that produces winners at Goulburn with a jockey and stable who both hit the scoreboard here regularly. Solid, but short.
Forget the two metropolitan failures where he was hopelessly out of his depth — his two Goulburn-region runs tell the story. He is a proven soft-track performer at a circuit that rewards wet form, and he draws the best band.
She was run down by only half a length in a stronger race at Queanbeyan on the same Soft 5 going two weeks back, and she now meets easier company, draws to sit handy from gate three, and gets back on a rider who has won both her previous starts aboard. Goulburn punishes backmarkers and rewards forward runners with wet form — she ticks both boxes.

Goulburn Post Hcp (C2)
The most complete profile here. Smichov has finished in the first two at five of his past six and won at Wyong last start over further, doing his best work late without ever needing a soft run. He maps to sit fourth or better off barrier five, which is the winning shape at Goulburn, and the drop back to 1500m is no issue for a horse who has been competitive from 1100m to 1625m. The 61kg is the query, but he has carried big weights before and looks the best-credentialled runner in a modest Class 2.
She drew the race map here and ran a big one at this track two weeks ago, leading throughout and only being collared in the shadows. With barrier two and clear early speed she should get to the front and control a moderate tempo. The unknowns are the extra 200m and the soft surface, which she has yet to conquer.
She settles close enough from gate four and gets a suitable tempo.
She is the one runner in the race clearly better suited by today's conditions and trip than by her last start. First-up over 1200m she raced too keenly and still closed to within four lengths, and she is a proven soft-track performer stepping up to a distance where she has done her best work.

GG Engineering Hcp (C2)
The most proven horse in the race for these exact conditions. He won over 1300m at Goulburn only 13 days ago and has now placed or won in four of his last five, always within a length of the winner. His record at the trip is outstanding and the stable and rider are both in form. The one worry is the map — he settles back and Goulburn rewards forward runners — but he was only three back early last start and still had too much late.
Her maiden win was genuinely good, done the hard way in front. The reasons to prefer another are the thin form base, the real class rise, and no evidence on a soft track, which matters here because Goulburn wet winners are usually wet-proven.
Won her last start on a heavy track and did it from a handy position, which reads well for a soft Goulburn surface where wet-proven horses dominate. The concerns are the outside draw, the likelihood she settles back on a track that favours the forward runners, and a first go at 1300m.
The overlay in the race. She is the quickest away, drawn to use it, and a proven wet-tracker — exactly the profile Goulburn produces winners from on a soft surface.

One run, and it was a good one — he bounced out at Goulburn, made his own tempo and was still in front at the 400m before two runners got past in the last bit while he was caught awkwardly near heels. That's a positive maiden trial for a horse only just learning the caper.
The form horse of the race on raw ability — she was the best finisher in this field at Goulburn a fortnight ago and has been a consistent placegetter through a run of maidens. Soft ground is fine for her and the fitness edge is real. The catch is obvious: 13 starts without a win, a Goulburn track that punishes closers, and a moderate tempo that won't set the race up for a late run. Big place chance, and the winner if they go hard enough in front.
A first-starter with the best connections combination in the race — this trainer wins regularly at Goulburn and Latham is one of the most effective riders around the circuit. Barrier 4 and a sprinting pedigree fit the assignment. Against him, the only public look at him was a very ordinary trial four-and-a-half months back, and in a low-grade maiden where experience and a known running pattern count for plenty, that's a real question. Respected, but short enough for what we can actually see.
The each-way roughie. His Goulburn run reads terribly but he was knocked sideways at the start and never had a chance to build momentum — throw a line through it. The Wagga third in open grade earlier in the prep is a better guide and is comfortably above this class. He's second-up off a short break with a Soft-track trial behind him, and the extra 100m helps.

His only start reads far better than the bare fourth: bumped at the jump and forced to race wide without cover the whole way at Hawkesbury, yet he was still beaten little more than a length in a race run to a sound standard. Goulburn's 1100m strongly favours horses who are handy by the 400m, and from gate five he is the one genuine on-pacer with quality behind him. Two soft-ground trial wins settle the surface question. Short, but the most likely winner.
The most exposed runner with consistent form: second at Wyong last start and a close-up third in heavy going before that, both efforts stacking up well for this grade. Joseph Pride has him fit second-up and Collett rides the track well. The hesitation is pattern — he is a get-back, run-on type, and this circuit rewards horses who are on the speed by the home turn.
Last start at Hawkesbury he was crowded at the jump, shuffled back from a wide gate and still came home powerfully to finish within a couple of lengths. He has a soft-track placing on his record and drops into a country maiden with a leading stable and a rider who wins at a quarter of his Goulburn mounts. Barrier 8 gives him the ideal handy trip on an on-pace track. Clear top pick.
The class drop is the story here. Two starts in Sydney against sharp opposition, and the Canterbury effort in the wet was a good deal better than an eighth reads before she over-raced and folded. O'Shea and Charlton have her fit off a strong Randwick trial, she gets in light, and this is a far softer assignment.
His trials read better than most first-timers in this field — two placings including a tidy recent effort at Warwick Farm — and he has the best gate in the race for a Goulburn sprint.

Goulburn Australia Country Boosted Hcp (C1)
He was far too good first-up at this track and trip, settling handy and sprinting clear late — comfortably the strongest performance in the field and well above the standard the rest have shown. Only one start to his name, but the trial form on Soft ground and the pattern of his winning run suggest the surface is no barrier. Latham is a big plus here.
She has placed twice at Goulburn and her autumn second over the mile here was a top-class effort for this grade. The complication is the trip: she is coming back a long way in distance first-up after nearly five months. Against that, she has an excellent draw, a jockey who knows the track, proven ability on rain-affected ground and enough natural speed to be closer than her fresh record suggests. Clear second pick and a genuine each-way chance.
Honest and in good order, he has run third at Goulburn in each of his past two starts and was beaten only a head-bob last time after racing keenly and hanging late. He handles a soft surface and his best form at the track reads well for this grade. The worry is the drop to 1100m from mile trips plus the awkward inside draw, which is statistically the worst band here. Solid each-way value rather than a winning play.
The map is the case. She has the gate and the gate speed to cross and control a moderate tempo at a track where front-runners hold a real edge, and she drops to the minimum weight with the claim. Her Queanbeyan win was genuinely strong for this level and the two recent trials have her ready.
