On form he is the most likely winner. The stable is flying, and he has a weight edge over the older top-weights. A strong early speed is the main risk, but he has kept going in fast-run races before.

Bedford Hcp (C5)
He drops in class, gets Purton and has the inside draw, and his Class 4 placings at the track make him a major threat.
He goes well in this grade over this course and distance, ran second in a similar race in June and won a recent trial. He is in the mix, but his best runs have come when he could lead in a slow race, and today's map points to a fast, contested speed from a wider draw.
With five horses keen to lead, this race should be run at a strong speed, which suits a finisher carrying light weight. He has been running on well in Class 5 lately, and his runs over this course and distance read better than the results.

Cheung Fat Hcp (C4)
His record over this course and distance is strong, his stable is flying and the expected pace collapse suits his run style.
When ridden handy into a fast pace last start, he faded late behind Lucky Mcqueen.
World Hero's first-up run at Sha Tin was better than 6th suggests: he came home strongly from a poor draw. Barrier 3 should let Bentley sit just behind a fast pace and use his turn of foot in the straight. He is a course-and-distance winner with a good record with this jockey.
His middle draw and ability to settle just off the speed suit the expected fast pace. He is a sensible each-way value play.

Fat Tseung Hcp (C4)
On form he is the most reliable runner in the race. His last start over this course and distance was run to a winning standard even though he finished 5th, and his June run at this level was better again. Barrier 2 should let him sit midfield with cover while three leaders take each other on, and Fownes is the trainer to follow at Happy Valley.
His September win at Sha Tin was the strongest run by anything in this field, and last start he was only narrowly short of that level while racing outside the leader from barrier 12. The wide draw and a crowded speed map are real concerns at Happy Valley.
From barrier 9 and settling near the rear, he needs a clear run, though the fast pace helps.
He is a value play. A fast pace with three leaders should suit his finishing run.

Take Action has the most reliable Class 4 form at Happy Valley over 1650m in the field. He won here in June and has since finished second, fourth and fourth, and each of those runs was close to a winning standard. Four likely leaders should make for a fast pace, which suits the way he finishes from midfield, and barrier 5 is a kinder draw than he has had lately.
On ability, Absolute Honour is the most talented horse here. His July third over the mile at Sha Tin would win this race, and his two recent trials point to a fit horse. Against him, he has never won from six starts at Happy Valley, and barrier 10 will make it hard to get a good position.
A fast pace may also catch out a horse that has raced keenly before.
Podium returns to his best trip after two runs over 1200m, which was too short for him, one of which was ruined by interference. His July second over this course and distance would make him competitive here, and barrier 3 with bottom weight lets him sit just behind the leaders.

The Chinese General Chamber Of Commerce Cup (C4)
On form he is the most reliable horse in the race. He is a proven Happy Valley 1000m winner, won at this level in June and was a close 4th in July. Barrier 1 lets him sit on the fence while Superb King, Mapogo, Beauty Show and Copper Core take each other on up front, and that very fast tempo should set it up for his late run. Top weight is the main query, but he has carried big weights well before.
Purton and barrier 4 give him every chance. Still, he has not won from 18 starts, his stable is cold, and a hot speed battle may not suit if he presses forward.
Beat Superb King last start from a much tougher draw, and the weights now swing his way, so he has place claims again. He likes to sit just off the speed, which should suit if the leaders go too hard. Best played for the place.
A big overlay. His recent Class 4 runs at Sha Tin were far better than his 10th placings show, and he now drops to 53kg from an inside draw.

Cheung Fat Hcp (C4)
He is the most dependable horse in the race. All his starts have come over this course and distance, and his recent runs have been as good as any in the field and very consistent. Last start he raced handy and finished second in a Class 4, which is today's grade. Barrier 6 suits a fast pace, letting him sit behind the leaders and get a soft run before the turn.
Overall his recent runs are below the best Class 4 form here.
Barrier 2 gives him the best map of the main chances, and he should be sharper second up after a quiet first-up run and a good trial before it. He has run to a competitive Class 4 level before, sometimes without much luck. His win rate is poor and his stable is out of form, so he looks better as a place chance than a horse to back to win.
His July win over this course and distance was the best performance by any horse in this race. First up after a trial, he raced handy and was only beaten into fifth. He has the speed to hold a forward position from barrier 8, and with the fitter run behind him a return to his winning form is possible.

He has run to a winning standard three starts in a row, including a Class 3 win at the Valley and an unlucky second last time after being checked at the start. It has only 3 wins from 27 starts and its jockey has no wins from his last 20 rides, so I rate it behind this horse. A fast pace should suit Target Audience, who can settle midfield and get a good run at them in the straight.
He has drawn the best gate and has the early speed to use it. With a 6.5kg weight drop after a strong Class 4 win, he should be hard to run down on a track that favours on-pace runners. The rise in class and a likely early speed battle stop him from being my top pick, but he looks a strong each-way chance.
A reliable Valley sprinter who raced on the speed last time and only weakened late under 60kg. With 4kg less to carry and an in-form rider, he should be in the finish.
He now gets a big weight drop for the rise in class. He has to come from midfield, but he should get a good run if the pace is fast.

Hing Fat Hcp (C3)
The class runner of the race. His spring runs in the Derby and Classic Cup clock better than anything else in this field. He came back with a narrow second over this course and distance with 61kg and now meets the winner, Pope Cody, 3kg better. Second up suits him (1 win and 1 second from 2 starts), and Purton keeps the ride. A fast pace should let him settle midfield and close strongly.
Won the last-start race that is the key form line here. He came from midfield, the same pattern that should suit today's fast pace. The 3kg rise in weight against the runner-up closes the gap, and his record on good ground is moderate. Barrier 2 should give him a ground-saving run, but he'll need gaps from off the speed.
A Happy Valley course-and-distance specialist with a win and a third from three tries. He drew the coveted inside gate and carries just 53kg. His first-up run over 1800m in this grade was better than seventh suggests, because he chased the pace and should be fitter now. The inside draw should give him a soft trail behind the leaders. A sound each-way type rather than a confident winner.
Fownes dominates at Happy Valley and the stable is firing.

The best recent form in the race. His place-heavy record is the knock, but the form and the map both point to him.
In-form last-start winner over course and distance at this grade, with a sharp stable and a jockey who has won on both her rides on him. Barrier 3 gets him a forward spot, though the speed battle in front and the extra 3.5kg make a repeat harder.
The overlay. His Class 3 form has been better than his finishing positions, with traffic trouble in his placings and an eighth last start that was a solid run. A very fast pace should set the race up for his finish.
