He is the only runner in the field with multiple dirt wins, and his sixth at Sha Tin two starts back was a performance good enough to win a race like this. Forgive the Happy Valley run from a wide draw over an unsuitable 1000m. He is the quickest beginner here, the trial win leading all the way was a good sign, and Purton with the in-form Man stable is a potent pairing. The wide gate is the main concern but his speed should get him forward.

So My Folks produced the strongest single performance of any runner here when second from barrier 2 on 6 September, racing fourth and finishing powerfully. Last start he drew nine, carried top weight and was never in the race. Today he returns to the inside gate, sheds weight and has an in-form jockey.
Daily Trophy is a consistent old campaigner who put in a solid third behind Wave Garden and Gimme Five a fortnight ago, moving up to third at the 400m under 60kg. He has genuine dirt ability with a win and a placing from four All Weather starts, and few horses here know the track and trip better. The draw means he will need to work early or settle midfield, but the forecast fast tempo should give him something to run at.
Gimme Five was second in that same race after leading, carries 51.5kg again with a jockey in rare form, and if he can slide across from gate 10 he will be hard to pass on this on-speed circuit. His record as a non-winner tempers confidence, so each-way is the play.

Spicy Spangle is the form and map horse. He led all the way to win over 1000m in this grade last start and maps to lead again in a race with no other genuine front-runner, on a track that heavily rewards on-pace runners. His connections are flying and the jockey has won on him before.
Sunny Q is the best horse in the race on recent performance, having run to a winning standard at each of his last three starts and finished strongly behind the winner only eleven days ago. He is a genuine Class 5 contender with 60kg and a sound draw. The concern is his racing style: he settles back and relies on a sustained finish, which is harder over 1000m and on a track where the leaders dominate. He is the clear second pick on chance and should be in the finish if the speed holds up front.
His last start from the widest gate was a much better effort than the finishing position implies, he has won second up before, and he drops to a feather weight under the hottest apprentice in Hong Kong. He maps to sit just behind the speed from barrier six. He is a legitimate top-three chance who can run a place at the very least.
He is a proven Class 5 winner at Sha Tin and his last two failures came after he burned too much petrol early over longer distances. Dropping back to 1000m from an inside draw, with a jockey who has won on him twice and a stable in strong form, he can bounce back sharply in a race with little genuine speed.

Lam Tei Hcp (C4)
Little Monster is the form horse. His last two runs at Sha Tin over this trip were both run to a winning standard, including a close second a fortnight ago from a handy position. He races on the pace, which is exactly the pattern that wins Sha Tin sprints, and the gear change plus a top in-form jockey add intent. The main query is a low win rate.
His debut fifth from the tail was full of merit and he has since won a trial, with a stable going well. He is the most talented horse in the race on potential. The reason he is not the top pick is that he gets back, and this track and distance is heavily tilted to horses on the speed.
Crossborderdude is the most reliable horse in the race, placed in seven of nine starts and proven over this course and distance. He ran to a winning standard in April but has not matched it since and comes here off two quiet trials after four months away. The 61kg top weight is a real concern against a field where he concedes up to eight and a half kilos.
Super Dragon is a non-winner with an awkward draw, but the ingredients are there for a sharp improvement. He ran close to a winning standard here in June and finished strongly last start, with the caveat that he was getting home over beaten horses in a slowly-run race. Today's two leaders should generate a genuine speed, which is what he needs, and he drops to a light weight under Badel.

Her three recent runs in this grade, all leading from the front, were each at or above a winning standard, and she carried almost the same weight as today when winning.
He is unbeaten at this track and trip, drawn to lead on the rail, and has the best jockey in the race.
Kempes is the swooper in a race that should be run at a strong tempo. His last-start win under a big weight was a high-quality effort, he is the only runner in the field with a proven all-weather record, and he drops a lot of weight into this grade. The negatives are a cold stable, a wide gate and the fact Sha Tin rarely rewards backmarkers.
Together We Value is a low-strike-rate horse but his profile fits this race shape well. From the inside gate he can slot in behind three leaders who will go hard, then get first run on the tiring speed in the straight. He has repeatedly run to a level just below winning standard in this grade, and 55.5kg helps.

He put this grade away over this trip at Sha Tin in June, closing from well back, and has since won two trials under Purton. The dirt is the risk, as is the big weight and a stable in a slump, but the gate lets Purton ride him closer and he has more scope than any rival.
The one with the clearest dirt credentials. He has already won on this surface, races on the pace and has a proven record at Sha Tin over 1200m. His last race effort at Happy Valley was forgettable but came from a wide gate, and he has trialled nicely since. The stable is in rare form.
A consistent type whose pattern fits the track better than most. He drops weight and has a trial win in the background. The lack of any dirt form and a Hong Kong win keeps confidence modest, but he should be in the race turning for home and is a place chance.
His March win here on this surface would beat most of these on their best efforts. Small each-way.

The Pok Oi Cup (C4)
He has trialled brightly twice for Purton, drops back to 1200m, and a quick tempo from several leaders will bring his midfield finish into play.
Noble Superior led and held on for second here last time over this course and distance, a run that measured up to winning class. From barrier 4 he can sit on or just behind the speed, which is where Sha Tin winners come from, and if the leaders overdo it he can pounce from second or third.
Enjoy Golf is the exposed but dependable type. The concern is the pace: with Let's Have Fun and Stanley Express also wanting the front he may be forced to work too hard early, which is what undid him last start. He is a place chance rather than a strong win chance.
Parrot Blessing is the overlay. His seventh here last start reads poorly but the clock says he ran close to a winning standard from midfield, and he followed it with an all-the-way trial win. He gets in light, draws mid-field and should be running on when the leaders tire in a race with three horses wanting the front.

His Sha Tin 1400m win three weeks ago was by a margin of quality no rival here has matched, and he did it from well back. Today he draws barrier 2 and gets a race likely to be run at a frantic early tempo, so the leaders should come back to him.
A lightly raced four-year-old who ran far better than seventh suggests on debut, finishing hard from last after being drawn wide. He has since won a trial and picks up Zac Purton, which is the best signal available for a horse with so little exposed form. The extra 200m and better gate should see him closer in the run.
The most reliable horse in the race and the one who best fits the position-driven profile of Sha Tin. He will be in the first three turning for home and has already run a strong race against this grade this preparation. The concern is the expected hot pace with three leaders around him, plus the barrier 10 draw that forces him to use petrol early.
A lightly raced John Size gelding whose two starts read better than they look. His debut third was sound and his last-start twelfth came after being hampered at the start and shuffled wide. Blinkers go on for the first time, he steps up to 1400m and draws barrier 4, all of which point to a different horse today. Andrea Atzeni rides for a stable that gets its horses right at this stage.

He won this exact race type in July and his previous mile runs were also to a winning standard. With three leaders set to go hard, his pattern of running on from midfield from a low draw is ideal.
Place only.
Flying Boom is the forgotten horse. The wide gate is a concern on a track that punishes outside draws, but the predicted speed battle should give him something to run at.
Ace is a horse whose results flatter to deceive in the wrong direction. He has won this grade over this trip here and was far from disgraced over 1400m last start when fourth throughout. He races in the first half of the field, which is the winning zone on this track, and should get a soft spot behind the three speed horses.

Swift Ascend was competitive in Class 2 earlier this year and his February run was the best in this field against the clock.
Embrace Aberdeen produced the most relevant recent run in the field, a close second in this grade over this course and distance from a wide gate. From barrier 6 with 54kg he should land handy, which is where Sha Tin winners come from.
Megastar Heart is the most natural leader in the race and draws to control it from gate 3, which is the winning profile at Sha Tin. His good-ground form is sound, with a Brisbane stakes win and a competitive Sha Tin run in this grade. The concern is pressure, with Endurance Express and Elite Golf both likely to push him early, and his soft-ground failures show he folds when challenged.
Shanghai Warrior is the overlay. Last Sunday he jumped from the outside gate, sat second and held on for sixth in this grade, a run that measured close to a winning standard despite the poor finishing position. He backs up in seven days with a lighter weight and maps to land on the pace.

His last-start fourth over 1200m was one of the best efforts in this field, and with two kilos off his back and a middle draw he should settle in the first four, exactly where Sha Tin winners come from. His 1400m record here is sound.
His last-start third at this track and distance was a strong run, and he has won two of six starts as an improving four-year-old with a fit-looking trial since. Drawn well with enough early speed to be handy.
Chiu Chow Spirit produced the strongest run in this field last start when he came from last to finish third over this course and distance. He is a proven performer here with a stable in outstanding form. The fast tempo expected from two leaders is ideal for him. The clear negative is his racing pattern on a track that strongly favours on-pace runners, and he has a history of placing rather than winning.
Two starts back he sat third throughout and ran a time that would win most races at this level, then last start he was drawn wide and could only run midfield before finishing solidly. Back to barrier 1 he should get a prominent position, which is where Sha Tin winners come from.

Yuen Long Hcp (C2)
He settles fourth or fifth rather than leading, which is ideal with six genuine leaders set to burn each other up, and his record at Sha Tin over 1200m is outstanding.
His second in this grade a fortnight ago was a strong effort after racing outside the leader in a hot-paced race, and he has only missed a place twice in eleven starts. Barrier 4 gives him an easy run into a forward spot. The concern is the number of speed horses engaged, which could make his life harder than last time, and the stable is in a quiet patch.
Hard to leave out on his overall record of nine placings from twelve starts, almost all at this track and trip, and Purton returns.
He now sheds weight and picks up a jockey in red-hot form. His running style, settling just off a hot pace, is exactly what this race shape should reward.
