The clear form pick. He ran to a winning standard when a close second over this trip last time, the strongest recent effort in the race, and he does it by racing handily, which suits a contest with only one genuine leader and an even tempo. Top weight and a slightly wide draw are the knocks and he remains a maiden, but on what he showed last start he is the one to beat.

He is improving, stormed home for fourth last start and has placed three times for this rider. The concern is his deep-closing style in what shapes as an even-tempo race with only one genuine leader, but his turn of foot and the first-time pacifier keep him right in the finish.
Suited by the inside gate and the featherweight with a claimer taking weight off. He recorded one of the better efforts in the race when closing strongly last start and has trialled well since. A poor win record and a tendency to begin awkwardly are the worries, but the draw and light weight give him a genuine each-way shout.
He has been running to a useful level in a stronger grade and now finds a winnable Class 5, with an in-form rider and a trainer/jockey combination that has been firing.

Glaciated has the strongest recent body of work in this field. Last start over this course and trip he settled midfield and ran home strongly to finish fourth, the best closing effort of the race. He is lightly weighted, improving, and booked for a stable/jockey team going well.
The concern is the wide barrier 12; from midfield he will need the breaks to come.
Little Monster maps well: with only one confirmed leader he can take a handy position from barrier 6 and be in the right spot when the pace slackens. His last run was a strong one from a horror draw, and the stable is going well.
The pace map identifies him as the only genuine leader in a race lacking early speed, and Sha Tin strongly favours on-pace horses who can dictate. If he crosses and controls a moderate gallop he can pinch this.

He settles in midfield, so the predicted fast tempo should suit, and his rider is in outstanding form for this yard. The knock is a Good-track record without a win, but his form and class edge make him the one to beat.
He gets back and charges home, which suits a race with three confirmed leaders, and the apprentice claim eases his weight. The wide draw and a quiet spell from his stable are the knocks.
Barrier one is ideal and Vincent Ho is riding in excellent form.
A 1400m specialist with fourteen starts at the trip, a win and four placings, and he ran much better than his eighth placing suggested last time. He maps on the speed from a fair draw and the strong early tempo should set it up for his late surge.

Rapid Phantom won a Class 4 1000m here in June in winning-standard time and has run well in both starts since, most recently a closing fourth. He settles just off the speed, the right profile with so much early pace engaged, and barrier 3 helps him save ground.
With four speedsters set to take each other on, the race shapes ideally for his swooping style, and the wide gate matters less for a horse who drops back anyway. The obvious negative is a 1-from-36 record, so he is a better place than win proposition.
His sire produces quick types and his two trials were sound. The trainer's recent strike rate is modest, which tempers enthusiasm, but he is an unexposed runner capable of figuring fresh over a sharp 1000m.
Let's Have Fun rattled home for third over this course and trip last time, the same contest in which Rapid Phantom finished fourth, and he is consistent without winning (15 starts, no victories).

Swallow Hcp (C4)
Clearly the horse to beat. He produced the best run of anything in this field when storming home for second over this course and distance last start, and he was a course-and-distance winner earlier in the year. Two genuine leaders should ensure a strong tempo, which suits a closer perfectly, and barrier 1 means he can settle quietly and produce one run. The stable and rider are both cold, which is the only real query, but on form he is the one to beat.
A class dropper who looks ready to strike. He was competitive in Class 3 over shorter trips, has a good record on Good ground, and won a recent Sha Tin trial. Purton being booked and a strong jockey-trainer combination are meaningful positives. Top weight and an unproven 1200m record are the concerns, but with a fast tempo ahead of him he should be poised to strike at the right time.
A reliable yardstick who keeps running into the placings. He has finished second or third repeatedly over this trip and at Sha Tin, gets a lovely draw in barrier 4, and Derek Leung is riding in excellent form. The obvious knock is that he is a 16-start maiden at 1200m with only one Sha Tin win in his career, so he is more of a place chance than a win chance, but he should be in the finish again.
He drops back to Class 4, the grade in which he has won twice, and blinkers go on for the first time, which can sharpen him considerably. He has a solid record over this trip and gets a middle draw, the better part of the track on recent evidence. He has yet to win on Good ground and has been well held in Class 3, so this is a value play rather than a safe one.

Etalon Or ran the strongest recent race in this field when a narrow second over this course and trip a fortnight ago, coming from midfield with a powerful finish. He is a dependable place-getter and the likely fast tempo over 1400m suits his get-back style.
Super Love has finished fourth at each of his last two starts, charging home late on both occasions, and this genuinely run 1400m with four likely leaders should play right into his hands. He is drawn nicely in gate five and Vincent Ho is in hot form. A course-and-distance winner, he lacks a decisive turn of foot but looks the safest each-way option behind the top pick.
Harold Win is a model of consistency at this distance, with a win and three placings from 13 tries over 1400m and a string of solid recent efforts. He has shown he can hold on when in front and also race a little off the speed.
Hot Air Ballon is the value play. He closed off strongly for fourth over 1400m last time out despite starting from barrier 14 and owns the best late-race profile in this field. Still a maiden, but clearly improving.

Hwamei Hcp (C3)
Top pick on form. A dependable Class 3 campaigner who finished a close third over this course last time, travelling just off the speed and hitting the line well. Draws ideally in barrier two and boasts a fine record at Sha Tin over 1200m. The top weight is a genuine query, but with several rivals likely to tear at each other up front his handy sit should get the perfect setup.
Extremely fast out of the gates, which suits the strong on-pace profile of this track. But he steps up from Class 4 into much deeper company and may be pressured on the lead by a handful of rivals, while his stable is struggling for winners.
An improving sprinter who has finished third at this level over this trip in each of his last two starts, settling just off the pace. Gets in with a light weight and draws kindly in barrier three. Still lightly raced and clearly on the up, he is the type to capitalise if the leaders cut at each other too hard.
Value play. A seasoned sprinter who has been running to a strong standard and owns an excellent record at this track and trip, with a pile of placed efforts to his name.

The Celebration Cup
Won the Premier Cup over this course and trip in June, beating Galaxy Patch and Lucky With You with authority, and he is unbeaten in three of four at this distance with five wins from seven on good ground. Zac Purton, who has a superb record on him, takes the ride from a handy draw. He steps up slightly in weight but is the clear form pick and the one they all have to beat.
Derby winner who is unbeaten in two starts at 1400m and ran a fine fourth in the Champions Mile, showing he belongs at the top level. Lightly raced and still improving at five, he gets a gun run from barrier one and is nicely weighted at 57.5kg. A fast pace plays to his closing style.
Top-class veteran who was runner-up in the Premier Cup behind Little Paradise and has consistently mixed it in Group 1 company.
He has natural early speed, a light 53.5kg and a good draw, and if he is left alone in front he could prove hard to peg back.

Amazing Partners is the most reliable Class 3 performer in the line-up and the predicted burn-up out in front is tailor-made for his closing style. He has a win and two seconds from four start at the Sha Tin mile and finished off strongly for second last time out. The top weight is the main query, but his consistency and the pace scenario make him the one to beat.
Zac Purton and barrier three are both significant pluses.
Big Return is a genuine 1600m specialist with three wins and a placing from six tries at the trip, and his closing efforts rate among the strongest in this field. The fast early tempo should suit a horse who does his best work late.
Barrier one is a major asset given the inside-draw advantage at Sha Tin, and his stable-jockey pairing strikes at a healthy rate. The knock is a dipping form line and a likely hot early contest.

Magpie Hcp (C2)
Winner of his latest start at this grade over this trip, travelling strongly on the speed and holding the challengers at bay. His record is remarkably consistent with nine top-two finishes from eleven outings, and he again has the champion jockey in the saddle for a stable he rides so well for. The one query is the abundance of early speed engaged, which may soften him late, but he is the class runner.
He goes up in class and drops back to 1200m, having done most of his winning over 1400m, and must overcome a wide alley while likely contesting the lead. The first-time tongue tie is a query, but his raw ability keeps him firmly in the mix.
A reliable, one-paced sprinter who finishes his races off strongly and has rarely been out of the placings. With six rivals seemingly keen to lead, the race should be run at a hot tempo, which plays directly to his strength as a closer. He is yet to fully prove himself at this level and needs the right run, but he is the pick of the finishers.
An experienced campaigner who settles back and runs on, a style that should be ideally suited to the hot early tempo expected here. He can be forgiven his quieter recent efforts and looks sharpened by a recent trial win.

Kestrel Hcp (C3)
Lightly raced but plainly on the up, and he gets the perfect set-up: a soft low draw, Zac Purton riding and a strong early tempo to run at. He closed hard into the placings last start and his recent form is the best in the field. The queries are that he is still learning and has never won this far, but his claims are clear.
A model of consistency over this trip, with five wins and four seconds from nineteen starts at the distance, and he brings the best recent form into the race off a light weight. The concern is that he does his best work on the speed, and with a very hot early tempo expected he could be left vulnerable in the closing stages.
A proven operator at this track and trip who shapes as a real beneficiary of the strong early speed. He settles back and finishes off his races, and his rider knows him well.
A lightly raced five-year-old with an excellent win and place record who looks overpriced. He is fit, his trainer is firing, and he shapes as one who can sit handy and finish off a fast-run race.
