This is a debutant, so I've judged her mostly on connections and trials. She won both of her jump outs, the last one on a Good 4 track. The Begg and Childs partnership has a strong record, and the Snitzel pedigree suits a Good-track 1000m.

On raced form she's the best in the field. Her 1000m seconds at Caulfield and Sandown were winning-standard runs, and she now drops to a country maiden. She went too hard at Caulfield over 1100m last time, and coming back to 1000m should help. Damian Lane's booking is a sign of intent.
Her jump out on Good at Flemington was solid. Barrier 2 should let her hold a spot handy to the lone leader on a track that suits on-pace runners. The lugging bit and ear muffs suggest she's been hard to steer.
Semantics is the most likely winner on form. Her only start was a close third in a better fillies' handicap at Sandown, and she ran fast enough there to win most maidens. She is the quickest beginner in the field and drawn barrier 3, so she should be on the speed at a track that suits leaders. Ethan Brown and the Freedman stable are both in form, and her jump-out win last week shows she is ready.
She was only half a length from winning over this course and distance on a Good 4 track last start, after leading all the way. She draws to lead again as the only genuine speed in the race. Her form isn't strong, but controlling a moderate pace is a real advantage at Ballarat.

Mortimer Petroleum Mdn Plate
This is the form horse of the race. From barrier 2 she should get a stalking run on a track that suits on-pace types. Her form has improved with each of her last three runs and her trainer does well at Ballarat.
She is the class horse of the race after placing in Sires' Produce races, and her last-start sixth at this track and distance was better than it looks after she settled back from a wide draw. If she uses her early speed to hold a forward spot from barrier 12, she can turn that form around.
However, she has to overcome barrier 14, a tendency to get back, no experience on Good turf and her first try over 2000m on a track where backmarkers rarely win.
Her last-start half-length second at Echuca over 2112m on a Good track was close to winning standard and showed she stays. She comes back 10 days later with a leading jockey riding.

She's the best form horse in the race. She has the early speed to cross from barrier 17 and sit just off a lone, moderate leader, which is the winning spot at Ballarat.
This is the leading debutant. The Freedman stable is in hot form, she draws the best barrier and her breeding says 1400m first up won't be a problem. She should be close enough in a race run at a moderate pace.
On closer inspection, that late run came past beaten horses in a slowly run race, and his overall time was modest. He's likely to settle back from barrier 12 under top weight, which is against the Ballarat pattern.
Hedjet is the clear form pick. On Australian debut at Seymour over 1429m he ran at a winning standard: he led at the 400m and was only run down late. That run beats anything else in the field. He gets Ben Melham, and second-up he should improve.
That run and her earlier ones are consistently near placing standard, which the others with form mostly can't match. Barrier 18 is a real problem at Ballarat, but she showed early speed last start, and Ethan Brown is riding well.
She's the overlay. Her Seymour return was quietly one of the better recent runs in this field: she sat handy and only faded late. Second up with the light weight, a strong stable at Ballarat and Maher's go-to rider, she should run a bold race.

Veolia (Bm62)
On form she is the most likely winner. Her first-up third in a BM62 at Geelong on a Good track was a strong run, and her recent runs have been close to a winning standard. She was also a solid second over 1400m on good ground. The concern is the map: with only one leader the pace should be slow, and she tends to settle back.
She should get the run of the race. From barrier 4 she can sit outside or behind the leader, which is the winning spot at Ballarat when the pace is slow. She is at her best on a Good track and won her maiden over this distance by leading. If she settles, she will be hard to run down.
She comes in off a good win at Bordertown, and her recent form is solid. She usually runs home well, and an earlier fifth against BM64 rivals shows she can compete at this level. The step up in class and the 1400m are questions, and she needs to be closer in the run than usual in a slowly run race. Coffey rides her well, and she is a strong chance of placing.
Invisible Magic has been the most reliable horse in this field over her recent runs. She won a BM66 at 1400m and ran third last start after being hampered and losing the whip. Maher's stable does very well at Ballarat and the jockey-trainer pairing is in form. The main query is the Good track: she's winless in three tries, and her best runs have come on rain-affected ground.
Regal Might should lead or sit just off the lead in a moderately run race, which suits a Ballarat track that favours on-pace runners. He was only just beaten in BM62 company at Bendigo last start and is sound on a Good track.
Kingsbury is the most progressive horse in the race. His first-up second at Geelong on a Good track was a genuine BM62 effort, and his maiden win showed there's more to come. Barrier 3 should put him handy to midfield in a moderately run race, which suits a Ballarat track that rewards on-pace runners. 1400m is new, but his pattern suggests he'll handle the extra trip. He's short enough in an open midweek race, but on form he's the likeliest winner.
This is a map-based value play. He should lead unchallenged at a slow pace, and horses in front often hold on at Ballarat. His last start was over 1000m, too short for him, and he got too far back from barrier 1. He is also back at a course and distance where he has won.

Manhari (Bm66)
Yauson has the best form in the race. His Seymour mile win was dominant, he is on an upward curve, and the rise to BM66 should not trouble a horse running times like his. He has the speed to cross from barrier 12 and settle just behind the two leaders, which is the winning spot on a Ballarat mile.
He sat in front from the 800m and only just got caught.
Jenni You Think drops out of stronger mares' company with a light weight and has solid form over the mile. She led at Sandown last start, so she may be able to sit closer than the speed map suggests. She has struggled to convert places into wins, and a spot well back would count against her on a track that favours on-pace runners. She looks a reliable place chance.
Revolver is likely to lead on a track where leaders win well above their share, and his last Ballarat run was good enough to win this grade. He has been off the track since April, but he has had regular jump-outs and his stable does well at Ballarat. Back him each-way.

Hygain Edge (Bm64)
Her dominant Caulfield Heath maiden win was among the best recent runs in this field, and her Cranbourne second as a two-year-old was just as solid. From barrier 2 she can sit just off a hot speed battle between Fast Freddie, Home Invasion and Getsmybloodrussian, which gives her the ideal run to take over late. With a jockey in form and a trainer in form, she's our top pick despite the class rise and the step up to 1200m.
From barrier 1 she can sit in midfield on the fence and let the speed burn out ahead of her.
Turbo Saint ran fast on debut, sitting just off the pace at Geelong and winning with plenty in hand. That run would win many races at this level. He has early speed but can take a sit, so he should get a good run in midfield if the leaders go hard. With only one start he's hard to rate, and the trainer's record at Ballarat is poor, but his upside is clear. Back him each-way.
Wonderful Sky has the best class form in the race: she was second in the Breeders' Stakes, and every run she has had would be competitive at this level.

Sportsbet Race Previews (Bm66)
On form she is the most likely winner. Her last three race starts were all at or near winning standard in similar Bench 64-70 races, and her Warrnambool second over 1200m on good was a strong run. Barrier 4 should let her settle handy in a moderately run race on a track that favours horses on the pace.
She still has plenty to prove: she has never raced on good ground, she is stepping up sharply in class against older horses, and barrier 11 could leave her wide.
His Bendigo Guineas third was among the best form in the race, and he is proven on good ground. Two Flemington jump-outs have him ready. The worry is his run style: he usually settles well back, and Ballarat does not suit backmarkers when the pace is only moderate.
Balance's return win at Geelong was a genuinely good run, the sort of performance that measures up to BM66 straight away. She has had all her racing on Good tracks, draws the rail and has the light weight. The concern is where she settles. If she drops back, the on-pace pattern at Ballarat works against her.
His two recent poor runs came on soft ground. On good ground he has repeatedly run to Bench 66-70 standard, including placings at Cranbourne and Caulfield Heath.

Hygain Edge (Bm66)
Yolo is the form horse of the race. He won over this course and distance on a Good 4 track last start, and he did it the right way, making up ground in the straight. With three genuine leaders, the pace should be very fast, and that suits his midfield, get-home style. Ethan Brown is in top form and the stable does well here.
That run would win a race like this. He is lightly raced and still improving, with 2 wins from 4 starts, all on good tracks. Barrier 3 and a midfield run should suit a very fast pace. The questions are top weight, the rise in class and a possible dip second up.
Gina's A Star won a stronger Bm70 fillies and mares race last start and drops in grade here. She has a good weight and barrier 2. The worries are that she has had only one start on a good track and her on-pace style could be tested by a hot pace.
Hotspur Reale returns from a break after three sharp jump outs. On good tracks he places often, with 4 seconds from 7 starts. His last two race runs, both seconds, were good enough for this grade. The data says he is in regular racing, but his last actual race was in April.
