A progressive three-year-old with only two runs, a win and a close second, both to a strong standard. He is second-up, race-fit and drawn to settle right behind the speed, which suits a slow tempo and a track that rewards horses on the pace. The step up in grade and a first look at 1000m are the queries, but his latest run in a similar-prize three-year-old handicap showed he belongs. The one to beat.

Ladbrokes Tote Win +10% In October Hcp
The class runner of the field, Listed-placed and a strong winner here over this trip on soft ground before adding a Mackay success. But he resumes after a long break without a first-up win, carries top weight and is likely to settle off what shapes as a slow tempo at a track where backmarkers rarely win.
A model of consistency with seven placings from eight starts, race-fit second-up and a proven wet-track place-getter. She led and fought on well for second last time over 1050m on soft and will go forward from a decent draw to control a slow tempo. The knock is that she has only one win and is yet to score at this trip or track, so she profiles as a stronger place than win proposition.
An in-form on-pace filly who ran a solid third in a similar-grade three-year-old handicap just seven days ago. The trainer/jockey partnership is one of the strongest in the race and both have good records at this track, and she will be handy from gate six in a slowly-run race.

She has been placed at every start, ran well on Soft 5 here last start and has the early speed to get handy from a wide gate. Wiggins is riding at his peak. The draw costs her some ground, but she gets the best map of the genuine chances and is the most likely winner.
A consistent type who is always in the finish and has the best connections in the race. He should settle handy and gets the right style of run, but he has found ways to be beaten and the wide gate takes away some of his advantage. A sound chance, though more of a place proposition than a confident winner.
Has been solid without being able to win and the draw helps him get a good run through the race. His last start on Soft 5 here was competitive, and a similar run puts him in the finish. He has to prove he can finish it off, and weight and his habit of hanging are queries.
A first starter from a stable that wins often and has the jockey and trainer combination in good form. His barrier trials were respectable on Soft 5 at this track.

Vale Mervyn Milton Hcp
It won an Open at Cairns last start, is improving and is well weighted. It was placed in all three wet-track starts, so the going should not be a problem. It should sit just off the pace in a moderately run race, a position that suits at Townsville.
A genuine winning chance. It won on the soft at Townsville last start, is the only clear leader and draws well. The slow-to-moderate pace should let it control the race, and the forward-settling bias at this track helps. The concern is the step up in grade, and the jockey's poor recent run.
A reliable runner that has already beaten this class over the same trip on a soft Townsville track. It should settle just behind the leader. The wider barrier and a tendency to begin awkwardly are the main negatives, and it gets a little less weight relief than the top two.
It won an Open Handicap on soft at Townsville a month ago, and ran third over this trip on the same surface. It has a good barrier and its record at the track is excellent. Top weight is a concern, but a 3kg claim helps. Appeals as an each-way overlay if the leaders go too hard.

Georgina Holt - 2026 Trainer Of The Year Hcp (55)
The most progressive horse in the race. He won his last start at Cloncurry doing plenty of work out wide, and two runs back went down by a whisker over the mile in this grade. From barrier two he should land the gun run just off the pace in a race lacking natural speed. The query is a modest distance record, but his recent form, fitness and map all point to him being the one to beat.
A last-start winner at this grade and clearly good enough, but the setup is awkward. He lumps the top weight, has never won on a soft track in eight tries, and has drawn wide over the mile. His best is the equal of anything here, which is why he stays high in the numbers, but there are enough negatives to keep him behind the top pick.
The likely leader, and he clearly likes these conditions — his two runs at this track and trip on soft ground produced a win and a close second, both with the top rider up. The concern is the step from maiden grade into a competitive restricted race and a wide gate. If he gets an uncontested lead in a slowly run race, he could well pinch it.
A class dropper who ran well against stronger company over this trip on soft ground last preparation.

Ryan Wiggins - 2026 Jockey Of The Year (Bm55)
Boom Bunny is the one to beat on this track. She has two wins and four minor placings from eleven starts over this course and distance, handles the soft, and maps to settle handy from barrier three, exactly where you want to be in a sprint here. She drops slightly in grade and her recent runs have been close. A proven winner at the trip who is well suited by the race shape.
Spiritof The Ocean has been knocking on the door, beaten narrowly here over this trip on the soft at her last two starts. She maps ideally on the speed from barrier four and has an elite jockey-trainer combination.
Ibegood is the likely leader and, on a track where settling in the first few is a big advantage, she can give a sight. She has a solid placing record and her jockey goes well here. The queries are that she has never won on turf — her only win came on the synthetic — and she is untried on soft ground, so she is a genuine chance but not one to trust fully.
Looming One is the value. He is a genuine wet-tracker with three soft wins and a stack of soft placings, he won here over this trip two starts back, and he drops in class.

Fiona Sandkuhl - 2026 Apprentice Jockey Of The Year (Bm65)
Dropping out of a stronger race after a close third over this trip here on soft ground, and his record at Townsville is the best in the field. A four-year-old with only 15 starts, he should be prominent from gate six and the slow tempo forecast only helps. He has a win and a placing from his two soft-track runs. Well placed to go one better.
Freshened since a plain run in this grade, with a solid trial at Townsville in the meantime. The knock is his poor soft-track record and top weight, but from gate two he can sit handy and the forecast slow tempo is in his favour.
He has been racing in stronger races and settled much closer than his reputation suggests. The concern is a quiet stable and a lack of real dash when the pressure comes on, and he gives the impression of one who finds a few too good. A genuine place chance rather than a confident winner.
An in-form front-runner with two recent trial wins who led over this exact trip and going last start and was only run down late.

Racing On Melbourne Cup Day Hcp (C1)
Her last-start win at 1200m was a standout on time and she has the early speed to get handy from a wide gate. Untested on the wet and rising from maiden company are real risks, but the quality of her best run and a handy map in a moderate tempo make her the most likely winner.
Ceretti ran a solid fourth over this course and distance on the same going last start, finishing off well despite jumping awkwardly. She carries light weight with a claim and should settle on the speed. She is a genuine place and win chance if she jumps cleanly.
She led throughout to win over this course and distance on Soft 5 and put up a strong time doing so.
Zemoreya is a Townsville soft-track winner with a very strong stable and rider combination. She has a handy draw and her winning run showed a strong finish.

Super Freeze owns the best record of any runner here at the 1000m and comes off a brave, narrow second on this track over soft ground that stands up as the strongest recent run in the field. He drops in grade and carries a light weight, settling just off what shapes as a hot tempo. That position looks ideal if the leaders overdo it. The only query is the odd flat run, but his course affinity makes him the one to beat.
Hartshorn was too good here last start over this trip on soft ground, leading and kicking clear, and he drops out of open company. The concern is the hefty weight he now shoulders after a much lighter winning ride, plus a predicted fast tempo that could leave him vulnerable late.
The class is clearly there.
Latin Boss is the emerging horse in the field, arriving on a three-win roll and showing a sharp turn of foot each time. He settles just off the speed and could pounce if the leaders go too hard.
