The class runner of the field. Two autumn seconds at Randwick in two-year-old handicap company, beaten a nose and two lengths, read far stronger than what his rivals bring out of maidens. He has trialled well since, draws to get the perfect smother behind the speed, and the first-time cross-over nose band should help him settle. Stable and jockey are in form.

Hyland Race Colours Mdn Plate
She brings the strongest form lines into this maiden, having twice finished second in open two-year-old company including a Randwick Plate. As a filly she receives 2kg from the colts and Tim Clark, who rides this circuit superbly, takes the mount. She has had two trials to ready her. The knock is a wide gate at a sharp track and a seven-month break, but she has the early speed to cross and take luck out of the equation.
The only runner with recent race fitness and the only true speed in the field, which on this tight Canterbury circuit is a major asset. He led and was only collared late at Hawkesbury, a run good enough to win a race like this, and a moderate tempo should let him dictate terms. The queries are the step to 1100m and whether he can hold off the challengers, but he maps ideally.
A Waller filly by Snitzel out of Group 1 winner Global Glamour, she showed real ability on debut when third in a stronger Randwick maiden, keeping on well under pressure. She is second-up now with two trials under her belt and draws the inside gate, dropping back to 1100m.

Schweppes Mdn Hcp
Clearly the class runner of this maiden. She now drops into a maiden, draws ideally in two and picks up James McDonald. The one they all have to beat.
Led and was only grabbed late on debut at Kembla Grange, sticking on for third after racing keen and laying out in the straight. Drawn the inside alley here with the early speed to lead, and Canterbury is a track where the front-runners hold a clear edge. Zac Lloyd is riding in great form and has a strong record for this stable. The one most likely to take it up and give a sight.
Never far away at Canterbury - three starts here for two seconds and a third, including a pair of placings over this trip. The wide gate is the query and all her form is on soft ground, but she keeps finding the line and shapes as the each-way play in an open maiden.
He trialled nicely over 1200m on a good track earlier this month and now drops into a maiden.

Catanach's Jewellers (Bm72)
In career-best form and the one they have to beat. Led and won a BM72 at Canterbury two starts back, then was beaten a whisker over 1800m at Rosehill in the strongest clock run in this field. Has the speed to lead or sit handy and Canterbury rewards forward runners. The extra 100m and a wide gate are the risks, but he is the most likely winner on form.
Drawn well and keeps McDonald aboard. The obvious knocks are that he has only one win from eight and closers are generally up against it at Canterbury, so he is worth taking on at the shorts rather than dismissing.
Mr Consistent without winning. Placed at his last three, including a third over this track and trip, and closed hard last time over 1800m after being held up in the straight. Waller-trained and well drawn. He finds one or two better more often than not, but he is a reliable placegetter at this level and should be in the finish again.
Drops to the minimum and gets a weight claim, so she carries next to nothing over a trip, and she ran on well for third last start having been placed over this track and distance. The recent pattern here has favoured closers, which helps her case.

Exceedance @ Vinery Stud (Bm72)
Reliable on-pace gelding who ran second here over this trip in a similar race two starts back before finding stronger Randwick company too good. He settles handy, which is exactly the profile that gets rewarded at Canterbury, and this is a drop in class. He doesn't win out of turn, but he is a strong place hope and a live chance if the leaders overdo it.
He won nicely at Canterbury two runs back over 1100m and is a genuine on-pace type, the sort this track favours. His flop here last start came on a wet track; back on Good ground he is a different horse.
The class runner and clear top pick. She won a stronger Randwick race last preparation and drops back to this grade, and she is drawn to settle handy from gate two, which suits a track that rewards on-pace runners.
She won two in a row earlier in the year at Kembla in good style with speed to burn, then ran a solid race in Midway company at Randwick. She is fresh off a break with a recent trial, drawn to settle handy in barrier four, and this on-pace profile suits Canterbury.

Ranvet (Bm72)
Improving four-year-old who does his best work in front and gets the run of the race from gate eight, on a track where on-pace runners dominate. He won his two starts leading and closed hard for second at this trip, and James McDonald taking the ride is a strong pointer.
He owns the strongest finishing burst in the field, so the predicted quick tempo should suit. But barrier 14 over a tight 1100m with a sharp home turn is a serious hurdle, and his lone second-up effort was plain.
Exciting three-year-old who won his only start by a big margin, leading throughout and kicking clear late. Waterhouse and Bott have him going well and he carries just 54kg, so he should be prominent from the outset. The steep rise from a maiden to open company is the obvious query, but his upside, light weight and on-pace style make him a live contender in a race that rewards forward runners.

TAB (Bm72)
The class runner and the one to beat. She resumes second-up, a stage she has won at before, and her last-start second at Canterbury over this trip was the strongest run in this field - she settled well back and stormed home. McDonald rides from gate two and good ground suits.
A lightly-raced mare who has the most talent in this field at her best. Her recent runs were run to a winning standard and she is a genuine on-pace type, which is exactly what Canterbury rewards. She won a recent trial and returns fresh, but there are queries: just one win from seven, no wins on good ground, and three placings without a win over this trip.
A mare going the right way and the value among the leading chances. She won over this trip at Warwick Farm last start, running down several of today's rivals, and her record of three wins and two placings from five starts is the best strike rate in the race. She settled just behind the speed that day and can do the same from gate six under Ashley Morgan.
She won over this trip on good ground at Wyong last start and has won two of her last five, showing a nice upward progression. She is drawn to settle just off the speed in gate seven and Tommy Berry rides this track well.

Asahi Super Dry (Bm72)
He has been around the mark against solid company this campaign, winning on a good surface two runs back before two honest fourths, the latest at this track and trip after leading on a rain-affected track. Drawn to control or sit handy from gate two, he maps ideally for Canterbury's on-pace profile, and Tim Clark rides this course at a quarter strike rate.
Comes out of the strongest last-start run in the race, finishing hard for second after being held up at a vital stage. He is second-up today, a stage at which he has placed, and he has already placed at this trip at Canterbury. The concern is barrier 13, though the mile start gives him room to work into a forward spot, and his stable's fresh runners tend to be ready.
A consistent type who has been knocking on the door, beaten only a whisker over the mile last start. He is drawn nicely in four with Zac Lloyd aboard, a rider who wins at a strong rate for this stable, and his form is honest. He steps up from a slightly weaker grade and has never won on a good track, but he maps to be handy enough to run into the finish.
Big each-way value. He drops out of stronger company, having run a close second in a tougher grade last start after a solid fourth before that. He is an improving type with a decent record on good ground, and a midfield draw should see him settle within striking distance rather than giving away a big start.
