Ladbrokes Punter Assist Hcp (58)
However he is unproven on firm ground, has never raced here, is still a maiden, and the first-time lugging bit hints at a horse that has been hard to settle.
Starton is the in-form runner of the field, winning last start and rarely running a bad race, with two wins from five over today's course and distance. He maps to lead, but from the outside gate he will need to work early under 61kg, and the sharp drop back to 1100m first-up adds a question mark.
Arrogant Miss is the each-way value in a race where four of the main chances are resuming. She is race-fit, has run consistently in the placings, carries just 56kg, and few horses have a better record at Alice Springs over 1100m.

Book Now Red Centre Racing Awards 10th Oct Hcp (70)
Rock Of Kryptonite has already won at this level at this track, ran a fair first-up third in Open company, and his second-up record is the best fitness angle in the race. He draws inside, has the early speed to sit just off Tellez, and the track pattern favours exactly that position. His Rest. 70 win here last January was a winning-standard run.
However he arrives first up after nearly six months, has not placed in five runs, and is unproven on this surface.
Down The Wicket is the most reliable placegetter in the field and loves Alice Springs, with three wins from ten here. His recent Darwin form stacks up well and the class drop helps. The problem is the map: he settles at the tail in a short race where the leader should get things his own way, and he keeps finding one or two too good.
Miss Top Gun is the map horse. She ran on strongly for second here last start, comfortably ahead of Tellez, and drops 5kg for today while sitting in the ideal on-pace position from barrier 3. Each-way value.

JJ's Waste & Recycling (Bm54)
She has the speed to cross from the wide gate and control a moderate tempo, which suits front-runners here. Modest career strike rate and the jockey's quiet form are the reservations, but on recent form she is clearly the one to beat.
Kieffer won this exact grade over this course and distance on 28 August with a quality performance, and his overall track and distance record is strong. Top weight and a moderate tempo are the queries, but he did not get back last start and Luximon has a good record on him and for the stable.
Lean On Me is racing well and her track record is hard to ignore, with her recent 1100m win and close third against stronger opposition both good runs. The question is whether she runs out a strong 1400m, with no placings from three tries at the distance and a fading finish over 1200m last time.
Nasha comes off a win in stronger company over 1600m here, beating several of these, and now drops to BM54 with a good draw and the rider who won on her last start. Each-way value.

Derby Day 31st Oct Hcp
He now meets that horse 3.5kg better off, draws the fence, and maps to sit just off a lone leader in a slowly-run race, which is exactly how he won last time. The Open-class flop in August came from a slow start, so it is forgivable.
The reliable placegetter who was closing on Bahama Bay over this exact course three weeks ago. He should be in the finish again and is the logical second pick, best used for the place.
If the rider rolls forward from barrier 2 he can be a factor; if he settles back he will need luck in a slowly-run race.
Grinzinger Lass has placed in six of seven at this course and distance, won in Hcp76 grade over the trip in July, and has enough early pace to park in the box seat behind the lone leader in a race that will not be run hard.
