Heza Warrior won this same race at Te Aroha over 3100m a fortnight ago, beating Outovstock, Our Easy Street and others who meet him again on similar terms, and had previously run two thirds over the track and trip.

Outovstock chased home Heza Warrior in this race a fortnight ago on his hurdle debut and should improve for the experience, and a drying track suits his flat form which is the best in the field. The concern is that he is drawn wide and likely to be up on the pace with two other leaders in a race where front-runners have been struggling here lately. Good place chance rather than confident winner.
Billy is the safest place proposition in the race. He has been placed three times over hurdles including a second over 3100m at Riccarton in a similar grade, and his last-start sixth at Woodville came after losing ground at the start and blundering at a fence. His stable is in top form and he handles staying trips well.
She was third in a maiden hurdle at Hawera then hit the front at the 400m in a stronger Woodville hurdle before tiring into fourth, and today she meets a maiden-quality field at the minimum weight.

Taika has far more ability than anything else here, having run fourth in a Grand National Hurdle and won seven races, and was only narrowly beaten over this track and trip last start after a bad start and traffic problems. He handles soft ground, draws inside and races handy, which suits the Te Aroha staying pattern.
She has been consistent through her steeplechase campaign with three placings from her last five, jumped through mistakes to win last time and is comfortable on rain-affected ground.
Invisible Spirit is the most experienced and accomplished steeplechaser in the race and loves Te Aroha, with two wins and four placings from nine visits. His last two runs were disappointing, but the pulled-up effort was in the Grand National and he was hampered last start. Coming out of a powerhouse stable and dropping in class from Riccarton, he is a place chance at least if he returns to his best.
Dorothy's Daughter is the value runner. She carries the lightest weight, draws well and is one of only two horses likely to lead, and with a slow tempo expected she could control the race from the front. She held on for third here over the same trip two weeks ago after leading throughout and was second at Hawera before that.

The Grand Tavern Hwt Mdn
Rocky Belle has strung together a second and a third at his last two starts over today's trip and gets the ideal set-up here, drawn the inside and likely to control a moderately-run race on a track that suits front-runners over the mile.
Ytoa made a promising start to his career, running third at his only outing over 1200m on heavy ground when boxing on strongly. He shapes as though the mile will suit given his stamina-oriented breeding, and the trainer has a strong recent record at Te Aroha. The limited exposure and top weight are the concerns, but there is upside in this profile and he should be in the finish if he takes the expected improvement.
Time After Time arrives with genuine momentum, having finished second at her last two starts, and her stable is going through a purple patch. She should settle just behind the leader from barrier 3 and be in the right spot on a track that suits handy runners. The question marks are the first attempt at a mile and a habit of beginning slowly. A strong place chance with a legitimate winning hope if she jumps cleanly.
Sicarius is the horse on the up in this field.

Ben & Ryan Foote Racing Great New Zealand Stpl
Lord Spencer has strung together four consecutive steeplechase wins, culminating in the Grand National over 5600m where he beat Prince Turbo and Brucie, and he has already won a chase at this track this winter. The drying surface is a minor question given most of his wins came on heavy ground, but his class, fitness and proven stamina make him the horse to beat.
Smug is the in-form Te Aroha horse, having won the Pakuranga Hunt Cup here last start and the Woodville chase before that, and that form ties in directly with half this field. The concern is that both wins came on genuinely heavy tracks and he has never won on soft going, and today's surface is drying by the hour.
Prince Turbo has run second, third, second, fourth and first at his last five, all in staying steeplechases against most of these rivals, and he gets a helpful inside draw and 2.5kg pull on Lord Spencer.

Waitoa Haulage Hwt Mdn
His debut second on a heavy track over 2000m was full of merit, he sits handy from an ideal inside gate, and the map suggests a soft tempo that favours the forward-positioned runners. He steps up to 2200m as a Darci Brahma gelding from a stable in strong form.
Colgate ran a good third at Hawera last time, racing on pace and holding well to the line over a similar trip. He gets a favourable inside draw again and should be positioned just behind Teleost, giving him first crack at the leader in a race likely to be run at a moderate speed.
He's an honest, fit maiden who gets a nice inside draw and should be handy enough to strike if the tempo is slow.
Her poor wet-track record needs to be weighed, but a drying Soft 6 is much more forgiving than the Heavy 10 she failed on.

Duke of Gloucester Cup (Bm65)
Early Times has been placed at every run this preparation, including a maiden win over this trip on heavy ground, and his last-start third over 3210m in stronger company shows fitness and toughness. From barrier three he should settle handy in what looks a slowly run staying race, which is the profile that wins here.
Air Dancer arrives off a bold second over this course and distance with a heavy weight, running his rivals ragged before being caught late. His wet-track record is the strongest in the race and the surface is drying toward the Soft 6 range where he has done his best work. The wide gate is the concern, but there is a long run to the first bend and his rider knows him well.
Deadly Pony is the type the Te Aroha profile likes: placed last start, racing again within a fortnight, drawn inside and likely to be prominent throughout. Her Woodville second in a similar highweight race was her best effort of the preparation and she finished off well.
His Ellerslie fourth over this trip on soft ground came with excuses, missing the start and then being held up in the straight, yet he still finished off strongly. The wide draw means he will be back in the field, but Te Aroha's long straight keeps closers in play over 2200m and his trainer has a good record here.

Gold Card's last-start second at Ruakaka in this exact grade, over this distance and on Soft 6 going, was the best recent piece of form in the race, and he produced the sharpest closing burst of the day from well back. Today he draws inside and should land handier under Corey Wiles, and a drying Te Aroha track suits a horse who has won on firmer footing.
Te Aroha is drying toward Soft 6, and on anything better than heavy his record is bleak. He also carries top weight and may not control the tempo with Koro's Princess and Gold Card drawn beside him.
Highly Anticipated looked a different mare last start when she led and only just failed at Cambridge, sprinting home faster than anything in this field. She invariably rolls forward, so she will be closer than a map reading would suggest, and that is the right place to be at Te Aroha over 1400m. She has won here before and drops in grade. Her wet-track win record is weak and the recent form was on synthetic, which keeps confidence measured, but at nine dollars she is a sound place chance.
Mister Pucci is a proven winner dropping sharply in class after chasing Open-grade horses, and he closed off well at Te Aroha last start despite losing ground at the jump.
