One run for a fifth at Taree after settling near the tail, and she made good late ground in a race that favoured the on-speed horses. A strong country stable, a rider who goes well at this track, and a step up to 1400m that suits her staying pedigree. Second-up, she should improve sharply and is the one to beat.

Jiminy Purkiss Mdn Hcp
Brings the strongest recent form into this. Beaten only three lengths at Doomben and again at Ipswich, held up in the straight both times, so the bare finishing position undersells her. The drop back from the mile to 1400m is the query, and she is yet to place, but she is fit, drawn well enough in seven and gets a smart rider. Definite winning chance.
A relentless placegetter in weak maidens whose two most recent runs were the best closing efforts in this field, making ground over 1000m at Tuncurry and over 1600m at Quirindi. He has placed twice over 1400m and the softer ground is drying out.
Consistent rather than brilliant, with three seconds from nine including a last-start second at Toowoomba where she sat third throughout. She races handy, which suits Armidale, and has two placings from four on good ground.

Purkiss Rural Armidale Super Mdn Plate
The most reliable recent form in a thin maiden. Beaten a neck over 1280m at Muswellbrook two runs back, then a close-up fourth over 1300m at Scone, both to a winning standard. He rolls forward from gate three, which suits Armidale's on-pace lean, and a moderate tempo should let him control the race.
Strong stable with a 25% strike rate and the confidence is noted. She is a lightly raced three-year-old still on the up, but she has never raced on Good ground, her recent trial was plain and gate seven demands a good ride.
Consistent place-getter, three placings from four, who maps kindly from gate two in a race without much early pressure. Strong stable, a good trainer/jockey combination and a winning trial here are all positives. Place chance at best.
Genuine each-way value. She has three seconds from nine, including a last-start second over 1300m where she settled handy and kept finding.

LDO Group Training Gunnedah Plate (C1)
Last-start third over 2200m at Grafton, beaten under a length, and a half-length fourth in stronger company at Tamworth before that. She drops from a BM66 into this and is the class runner of the field. Drawn the inside gate she gets the right run and owns the strongest finishing burst in the race, with the stable and jockey firing. The query is her get-back racing pattern at a track that favours the handy ones.
Won his only try at this trip and comes off a solid third in a Class 1 at Moree where he led and was only collared late. Drawn ideally in barrier 2 with the speed to be right on the pace, which is how these staying races are usually won at Armidale. A slight rise in grade and a modest one-win record are the knocks, but he maps better than most and can dictate.
Front-runner who has been around the mark with three seconds in his last five, including a close second in a Class 1 at Gunnedah. He has the early speed to lead and on-pace runners have a clear edge over this trip here.
Drawn nicely in barrier 3, she has placed at this track before and usually races within striking distance.

LDO Group Training Dubbo Country Boosted Mdn Hcp
The most reliable horse in a weak maiden. She settles in the first few, handles good ground and drops back to a plain maiden here. The obvious knock is that she has never won in twelve tries, but nothing else in this field brings her level of exposed form.
A speedy mare who draws perfectly and should be able to control the race on her terms. Her latest run at Muswellbrook was a close-up fourth after racing on the speed, her best recent effort. She is still a maiden and has folded badly when tackled in front, so a genuine tempo is a risk, but from gate two she is the one they have to run down.
A progressive maiden whose best asset is a strong finish, and the expected hot tempo should give him his chance to run on. He draws well in gate three and his trainer has a good strike rate at this track from limited runners. The concern is that he habitually settles a long way back and Armidale sprints are unkind to get-back types, so he needs the leaders to overdo it.
He races on the speed and should be within striking distance turning for home.

Set To Prophet is the one they have to beat. From the inside gate he lands in the leading pair, exactly the profile that gets the job done around Armidale, and he has already won twice here. He has been a model of consistency with four top-four finishes on the trot. The knock is 62kg and a three-month gap since his last win, but his trackcraft and map set-up outweigh those concerns.
Time To Commit brings the strongest recent form into this - a win and three placings from her last four, all in similar company. The winkers have her racing handier and she was second at the 400m last time, so the backmarker tag may be outdated. If she is within striking distance on the turn she will be charging late.
Cheating Lilibet is the likely on-pacer from the middle gate and her runs say she has been mixing it well at this level, beaten only a few lengths in two stronger sprints. She led and won her maiden at Taree and her profile fits the Armidale pattern of handy runners. The trip is the query - she has never run 1300m - but she maps to give herself every chance.
Extreme Merger is the value. He owns three wins at 1400m and a strong record at this sort of trip.

LDO Group Training RTO Hcp (C1)
Improving three-year-old who led all the way to win his maiden at Dubbo last start, the strongest recent performance in this line-up. He should be the lone leader in a race short on speed, and Armidale strongly favours horses on the pace. The only real query is the outside draw, which will force him to spend petrol early to find the front.
Mare with the strongest class lines here, having mixed it in provincial company and run a closing fifth in a Midway Class 1 two starts back. The inside gate should have her closer than usual, and she gets a genuine drop in grade. Her profile is more about placings than wins, so she is best played each-way rather than on the nose. The moderate tempo is the main worry.
Five-year-old who ran his best recent race when beaten a length in a Class 1 at Moree over this trip, and who has the tactical speed to put himself in the first few. That matters at Armidale, where horses on the pace hold a clear edge. The knock is the wide draw and a poor effort last time when he led and folded over a mile. A place is the sensible play.
He fits the Armidale 1400 template perfectly: he should lead at a moderate tempo on a track where horses settling handy have a clear edge, and he drops sharply in class from stronger Queensland form. Two of his recent runs at or near this trip were at a winning standard. The knocks are top weight and a quiet stable, but with an uncontested lead he will take plenty of running down.
Honest mare who won over 1400m last start and lands the perfect inside draw at a track that heavily favours runners on the speed, especially those drawn low.

LDO Group Country Boosted (Bm66)
The one to beat. He ran the best race of any runner here when a close second at Narromine and has been holding his own in stronger company, including a sound effort at this level at Quirindi. Drawn sweetly in gate four and his rider knows every inch of Armidale. The query is that both career wins came on rain-affected ground and he has never won at 1100m, but he is a still-improving four-year-old and the drying track should be fine.
Honest on-pace sprinter who led throughout at Inverell two starts back and was only beaten a whisker at Gunnedah before that. Rarely runs a bad race and is the most reliable place-getter in the field, so he appeals as a strong each-way play. The concern is his rider hasn't ridden a winner lately, though she goes well on this horse, and he has never saluted at Armidale.
In great form with a second and two thirds from her last three, and she owns the sharpest finishing burst in the race. She gets back in the field though, and Armidale sprints tend to favour horses handy to the speed, so she'll need the tempo to be genuine and the leaders to tire. A place is the safer play, and her rider has a solid record here.
Likely to lead on his own and that's a big plus on a moderate tempo. He knows this track better than anything in the race, with a win and two placings from six starts here, all over this trip.
