Purton stays aboard, he maps to sit handy from a middle gate and carries only 56kg. The worries are real: he is winless from 30 starts and has never raced on the dirt. In a weak Class 5 with few proven dirt horses, he is still the most likely winner.

Chai Wan Kok Hcp (C5)
On recent turf form he has the best record in the race: a Class 5 win in July, then two solid closing efforts from near-last after drawing barriers 14 and 12. Barrier 3 should let him settle closer. The queries are the surface and the pattern, as he has never raced on dirt and a get-back style can be costly with kickback. He also steps up to 1650m. He is clearly talented enough for this grade, but he needs things to fall his way.
He has clear map advantages with barrier 1 and 51.5kg, and his Conghua dirt trial win points to him handling the surface. He is winless from 16 starts, his last three runs were all fifths, and both stable and rider are out of form.
This is a dirt race and he is the only runner to have won on the surface. He also placed third here over 1650m in May after racing on the speed. Blinkers go on to help him take up a position from barrier 11.

Kwok Shui Hcp (C4)
From barrier 2 he can take a forward rail position on a track that rewards it, and Purton replacing Keith Yeung is a significant upgrade. The concerns are his maiden status and pace pressure from three leaders drawn wider, but he holds the best map and the best recent run. Short enough, yet the most likely winner.
The most reliable Class 4 performer in the race. He resumed with a solid third at Happy Valley and has repeatedly run to a standard that is competitive here, with two wins from eleven at this course and distance. His tactical versatility is the key asset: with three leaders engaged he can park fifth or sixth and get first run at them in the straight.
An unexposed type with limited public form, so he is assessed on his single start and his connections rather than penalised for inexperience. That debut third here at this class, racing on the speed, was a strong introduction and he has trialled twice since. Vincent Ho takes the ride.
The tongue tie has switched on early speed he did not show in Class 3. The negatives are real: top weight, pace pressure and a poor jockey-trainer record.

Muk Min Ha Hcp (C2)
His June win over this trip under 61kg was run in time that stacks up in this grade, and he drops 3kg with Purton staying aboard. He is winless in six on the surface, but his fast-finishing second from near last in April shows he handles it. Two trials have him ready, and barrier 4 lets him sit closer in a moderately run race.
His best run was on this surface in April, when he led and held off Talents Ambition, and he now meets that rival 1kg better off with just 52kg. Two later runs were below that level, one over an unsuitable 2000m, but a solid 1700m trial second suggests he returns in good order for a stable in form.
He should lead and gets a chance to control the tempo. The doubts are whether a 105-1 win can be repeated, the 3.5kg rise, barrier 8 and seeing out 1650m when most of his racing has been over sprint trips.
The class runner of the field, dropping from Group and feature races into a Class 2. His best recent efforts are faster than anything his rivals have run, and barrier 2 with visors back on gives him an economical trip. Against him are 60kg, two quiet trials, a winless all-weather record from six starts and a stable out of winners.

He ran to a winning standard last start when coming from last on the turn out of gate 14 to run second to Rattan Galaxy. He now draws gate 4, meets that horse 2kg better and should settle much closer second-up. The stable is in hot form and there looks to be enough speed engaged to bring him into it.
He responded to the visors last start, running on from near the tail for third behind Rattan Galaxy and The All Rounder in a race run to a winning standard. Purton sticks, and he meets the winner 2.5kg better. The concern is the map: from gate 11 he will be giving the leaders a start again, and he is still a maiden after 18 runs. A genuine tempo helps, and he profiles as a strong place chance.
He produced his best run to date last start, working home from the back half for fourth in the race that should decide this. From gate 7 he can settle closer than he did from 13, and the Hall yard is firing. He remains a maiden who gets back, and the headgear coming off is a query.
The 2.5kg rise and gate 10 are real negatives, and early pressure is a risk, but he showed two runs back that he can work forward from a wide gate and still run second.

He has won two of his last three at this track and distance, the latest an all-the-way win over Bull Attitude and Chill Kaka, which is the strongest form line into this race. Barrier 3 gives Badel the choice of leading or taking a sit if Perfect Team crosses from out wide. The 3kg rise and likely pace pressure are real concerns, but his runs on this surface are the best in the field and he stays the one to beat.
Mr Consistent at this track and trip, placing in five of 12 attempts. He chased home Night Purosangue here in May and ran third to him in June when giving that horse 4kg. He now meets him 4.5kg better and should get a soft run behind the speed from barrier 2. If the leaders go hard he is the one positioned to pounce.
The unknown quantity. From barrier 4 he should settle midfield in a race likely run at a good clip. A small each-way interest only.
He came from tenth on the turn to run second to Night Purosangue over this track and trip in June, and he now meets that horse 3kg better off at the bottom of the weights. With three speed horses engaged, the pace should suit his finishing style. Each-way value.

The Yan Chai Trophy (C4)
His July win and last-start fourth from a wide gate were both run to a standard that wins most Class 4 races over this course and distance. He draws to settle midfield behind a hot speed, his stable is in winning form and he won a trial since.
He is second-up, fitter, and drawn to take a sit behind the speed rather than do the bullocking.
Went too hard on the speed last start and weakened, finishing well behind Grand Patch in the same race. Blinkers come off and his trial win since, when ridden quieter, suggests Purton will look to take a sit.
His closing seventh over 1200m last start was run in a time that would win plenty of Class 4 races, and he steps back to 1400m where he has his only win. With four leaders likely to cut at each other, he gets the fast tempo a closer needs, and he carries a light weight for an in-form stable.

Sham Tseng Hcp (C4)
His closing third over this course and distance three weeks ago was the best recent performance in this field on time, and he did it from a wide gate and well back. Barrier 1 and Purton should see him settle far handier on a track that rewards position.
The most reliable on-pace runner in the race. His last two runs over this course and distance were both good enough to win a typical Class 4, and he maps to sit in the first four from barrier 6. The stable and Derek Leung are both flying. The concern is weight: he loses the 10lb claim and carries 4.5kg more, and he is yet to win in seven starts.
A consistent placegetter over this course and distance who draws to get every chance from barrier 3 with a light weight. The knock is that he is a 14-start maiden, and his placings have not been run to the same standard as the recent efforts of the top two. He also resumes from a three-month break. A place chance rather than a likely winner.
The overlay of the race. He has since had the benefit of that run and has won second-up before. He has Class 3 form this year and enough speed to cross from barrier 10 and sit handy.

The Chinese Recreation Club Challenge Cup (C3)
His closing fourth over 1400m last start was the best recent performance of any runner here, and he steps back to the 1800m where he has won at his only attempt. He is lightly raced with five top-two finishes from seven starts, and Purton takes over. The risk is his settling position: he got back last start and may need to make ground at a track that rewards handy runners.
His last three runs at this class were all good enough to win an average Class 3, and he now gets gate 1, a light weight and Badel back aboard, who has won three times on him. He should land midfield on the rail with cover. The unknown is the 1800m, which he tries for the first time.
The best map in the race. He draws gate 2 and looks set to lead or take the box seat in a moderately run race, the same handy pattern that won him a 2000m Class 3 here in June. He loves Good ground with four wins from seven, and a trial win says he is ready. A place chance from the run he gets.
His two runs over 1800m have both produced thirds, the latest in Class 2 when he ran on strongly from the rear. He returns to Class 3 for a stable in red-hot form, with Chau, who has placed on him twice, back aboard. The concerns are a winless Sha Tin record and a tendency to get back.

Shek Wai Kok Hcp (C3)
He is the progressive horse in the race: seven starts for two wins (7:2-0-0), both in his last three runs, and his win over this course and distance in April was run to a standard that measures up in Class 3. He drops sharply in weight on the class rise, won his lead-up trial and comes from a stable in excellent form. The wide gate is the main risk, but a genuine tempo should let him slot in midfield and finish over the leaders.
His third here in June was run to a winning standard and he beat home several of today's rivals. Barrier 2 lets him save ground in midfield while four speed horses contest the lead, which is the ideal setup.
A lightly raced four-year-old (5:1-0-0) who resumed with a sixth in this grade that was better than it reads. He should strip fitter second-up, draws the rail and gets Purton, which gives him a soft run just behind a hot speed.
The overlay of the race. He has the best dirt record in the field, all six of his wins are at this trip, and he arrives off a trial win for a stable striking at 30%. His last-start sixth can be forgiven after interference early and being held up on the turn; the run before was a strong front-running second. The danger is the pace, as he is one of four who like to lead and has folded under pressure before.

His third in the 13 September race over this course and distance was a winning-standard run at his first Hong Kong start, and he now meets the winner around 4.5kg better off. A lightly raced four-year-old, he should strip fitter second-up, and three speed horses should give him a fast pace to chase. The wide gate is not a concern down the straight. Stable form is the query.
He climbs 5kg with the claim gone, his three wins from eight have all come fresh, and he dropped out when second-up last preparation. With two other leaders engaged he may also have to work harder in front.
A reliable straight-course sprinter whose two seconds here in June and July were as good as anything in this field. He was a fair sixth in the 13 September form race first-up and should improve with that run under his belt, from a stable with six winners in its last 20. He maps to sit handy from gate six. The knock is his record at the trip, six starts for three seconds and a third without winning, so he is a place proposition.
The overlay of the race. His fifth in the 13 September form race was better than it reads, as he drew the inside gate on the straight course and still finished off strongly in a time that would win most Class 3 sprints. His June third here was just as good. From a kinder middle gate, with three leaders ensuring a fast pace, this four-year-old should be finishing hard.

His soft-track win over this course and distance in July and his close second over 1000m last start are both good enough to win this. Barrier 7 lets Purton sit just off a hotly contested lead and move into the better ground in the straight.
He settles midfield, so five speed horses going hard up front should set the race up for him, and barrier 4 saves ground. He is untried on soft and 1200m may be short of his best, but his trial was sound and the stable is winning.
A progressive type whose Class 4 win over this course and distance was up to Class 3 standard. He drops to 52.5kg with a hot claiming rider who has already won on him, and his trials say he is ready. The wide gate is the problem, as he must use speed to cross a crowded front line on ground he has never raced on.
The value runner. His two Hong Kong runs were plain, but both were on dry ground while he was still settling in, and his Australian stakes placings are good enough for this grade. Soft ground is where he has done his best work, he drops 3.5kg, and barrier 3 puts him one-out, one-back behind a fast speed. A sharper recent trial suggests he is ready to show his true ability.
