Singletary is the form horse in this three-horse Open. He has already mixed it in a Group 2 and two Listed races, and he bounced out of a badly hampered Guineas run to win at Otaki over 1200m on soft ground last week, settling just off the speed. Today's 1400m asks a new question, and that Guineas effort is his only try at the trip, but the rise from 1200m off a win looks manageable. Barrier 5 suits the forward lean at Trentham.

Thin form is not a knock on its own, and the one public run was a good one. The limits are real: he has never raced at 1400m or at Trentham, and this is a big step out of maiden class.
High Rock is the local hope, with his only win coming at Trentham over today's 1400m on heavy ground, and Grylls plus Bergerson are the right pair to have aboard. That win and a later fifth in a richer special-conditions race do not yet show he is up to an Open field, and both of his soft-track runs have been plain, including last start at Hastings when he began awkwardly and raced at the rear. Trentham sprints have been rewarding horses on the pace.
Ronaldo is the map horse. With no natural leader in the race he is the one projected to be on the pace, from barrier 6, and Trentham on soft has been paying horses that are still handy at the 400m. He won second-up earlier in his career and has wins on soft and heavy. The caution is a flat return over 1000m here last start, when he began awkwardly.
He has two wins from two starts, both on soft, including the Hawke's Bay Guineas at this trip when he was held up and still won. He drops out of group company into a modest Open, keeps Kelly Myers, and can lead or sit just off them on a day that rewards horses handy. The hole is a first try second-up.
One start is all he has, a close soft-track second at Taupo, and that shortage of form is not treated as a fault. He gets the bottom weight from barrier 1.

Dolindo is the horse the shape of this maiden suits. He has twice finished second at 1400m on soft, including a nose defeat at Woodville three weeks ago after racing on the speed, and he is second-up (1:0-1-0). Trentham on soft has been rewarding horses in the first three at the turn, and he is the only natural leader in a moderate-tempo race.
Rooke and the Ritchie-Murray stable are both in decent nick, and he gets 56kg from barrier 2. He is second here rather than the win play because that effort came from the back, and recent Trentham soft racing has been hard on horses that are not handy at the 400m.
Puzzle brings the best single piece of wet-track merit in the field. Her Waverley debut third over 1400m on heavy was produced while racing wide without cover, and the clock of that run was up to a standard that wins a maiden. Grylls (5 wins from 20) and Benner (5 from 20) are the hottest booking in the race, barrier 6 suits the track, and 54kg is a gift in a compressed handicap.
She is 7:0-4-1, already second at this track and distance, and she led throughout when second at Hastings on Soft 7 a fortnight ago, so she maps as the horse sitting outside Dolindo. Wet form is the strength: one soft start for a second and six heavy starts for three seconds and a third. Cameron and Lammas are both winless in their last 20, and gate 12 means she may spend ground to find the lead group.

Pukerua Heights (Bm75)
Proboy is the form pick in a BM75. He has already won at this trip, handles rain-affected ground, and his last three runs in stronger races were the best in the field even when he finished out of the placings. The 3kg claim and eight-day freshen-up help. The risk is a rearward sit if the pace is only steady.
Her synthetic form has been at winning standard and she keeps finding the frame.
Identikit brings the strongest course record in the field, with a win at Trentham over this trip and six starts here for a win. Craig Grylls is the right rider, and she was a close-up third in a BM75 on Soft 7 last start after being in the first four turning in. An earlier Hastings run in this grade was up to a winning standard when she was held up.
Staying races at Trentham still lean to horses in the first three turning for home. He was only fair at his last two on soft in easier grades, and he has never placed in seven tries here, so the stake stays small and each-way.

Jennian Homes (Bm65)
She is second-up after a Matamata BM75 run that flattered the beaten margin, she has already won second-up, and two of her five soft-track starts have been wins. The Walker and Bergerson stable is hot and Hassman's claim leaves her well weighted. The wide gate and a midfield map are the risks at Trentham over 1000m, where horses near the speed keep winning, but her class and wet record still clear Bee Precious, the other four-dollar chance, who is fresh and lightly raced.
Sierra Leone brings the best current form at today's level. Eight days ago she was held up and still ran second in a BM65 on soft six, and her soft record reads a win and five seconds from eleven. Queiroz and Benner are both going well, and she has won at 1000m. She should sit just off a genuine speed.
Bee Precious shares favouritism at four dollars because she maps to lead from a friendly barrier and has won her last start. That map suits Trentham, where horses in the first three at the 400m dominate sprints. The form underneath is thinner: six starts, a synthetic maiden win, no 1000m or Trentham record, and a first-up record of a third from two tries after 100 days off. With Ka Ying Lucky and Pleasing also wanting the lead, she can be pressured and fade.
Marotiri Marsta is the value play at seventeen dollars. She drops back to that grade today, Macnab sticks, and barrier seven is a plus. She gets back, which is a real negative over 1000m here, so she is not a top-three winning chance.

Legally Binding is the form pick because he is wound up for a Sunday open sprint. Second-up, with one win and one second from two starts in that role, he was a close fourth first-up at Cambridge and had earlier finished second in an open handicap on soft at Otaki. The stable has six winners from its last 20 runners, Wiremu Pinn has won both rides on him, and 54kg from barrier 6 lets him sit just off a moderate speed.
She maps to sit second in a moderate tempo, which suits a track where on-pace runners keep winning sprints. She is not the top pick because she resumes after 183 days with only one win from three first-up runs, and her best form is from last autumn.
Ima Brazen One is the proven wet-track Trentham horse. She has three wins from ten on soft and two from four on heavy, including an open handicap win here on heavy, plus an open win on soft at Otaki when she led all the way. Fresh she has two wins from five, and barrier 5 helps her be handy in a moderate tempo. Top weight after 106 days off, and a poor final run last preparation when she hung, are the risks.
Party Rocking is the each-way overlay. He has three wins and two seconds from 11 Trentham starts and two wins from six at 1000m, and he maps on the pace from barrier 7. Chung's record on him is five wins from 16 rides. The limits are real: only two soft-track wins from 13, a last-start fade after leading at Hastings, and a jockey without a winner in 20 rides.

Grahams Painters (Bm65)
Valley King is the most likely winner on form. He has already won three times at 1600m, including a win sitting just off the speed, and this moderate tempo with an open lead suits a horse who can be in front at the turn. Trentham miles reward that position. He is fit, in this grade, and Sutherland rides the track well.
Will is the horse the map wants. Barrier seven and a forward pattern put him where Trentham mile winners usually are, and he has already won a soft 1600m this month.
A week ago she ran to a winning standard on soft six in this class despite being crowded and held up from the back half. Grylls and 56kg are genuine pluses, and she is a mile winner.

She has won four of her last five, including the Listed Kaimai at this trip on soft, and her mile and wet records are the strongest current form in the field. Barrier 6 and McNab help. The risks are a first Group 3, a midfield map on a track that rewards horses closer to the speed, and a profile that rarely runs a placing.
He has already been competitive in Group races and his Te Rapa second was a high-class effort.
Belles Beau is the class drop in the race. Soft ground has produced placings rather than wins, and barrier 14 plus a rearward last start are real issues on a forward-leaning mile.
He is the only horse in the field with a recent Group 1 placing and a Group 3 win at a longer trip, and he maps to sit just off a moderate speed from barrier 1, which is exactly where Trentham miles are being won.

Belles Boom is the form horse. He beat this class at the trip on heavy ground three weeks ago and races on-pace from a handy gate, which is the right shape for a moderate 1400m at Trentham. Wet form is the best in the field.
Hoorah Henry is the course horse. Last start he was held up after missing the kick and still ran fourth. Barrier 1 and Kelly Myers help, but a slow begin leaves him midfield on a track that rewards the first three at the turn. He belongs in the finish more often than he wins it.
He places more often than he wins and has already been placed at this track and distance. The wide gate and 62kg mean he must work forward or the bias will beat him, so he is a clear second rather than the banker.
Surround Sound is the map overlay. The Te Rapa second at this class and trip was a genuine effort after racing wide.
