Sicarius is the form pick after a strong third over this course and distance last start, running on from midfield. He has the best recent form in the field and a jockey riding with confidence at Woodville. Slow tempo is a slight worry, but he can settle closer from barrier eight.

He was a close fourth at Pukekura last start over 2000m, settling handy, and should appreciate the step to 2100m. He handles Good ground and the slow tempo suits his on-pace style. However, he has had many chances and a wide barrier is a negative.
Tukipo produced a much-improved second over this course and distance last start, leading and fighting on. The pace map suggests he can get an easy lead again with a slow tempo predicted, which suits on a tight track. Barrier five is ideal.
Tarzeel is a debutant but not one to dismiss. Kevin Myers is a top stable with a strong strike rate at Woodville, and the booking of Floor Moerman adds confidence.

Lady Of The Pack Mdn
Veteran maiden with 19 starts but has been consistent, including a close second at this track and distance last start. Good draw and top jockey. However, he is second-up from a spell and has never placed in two second-up runs, plus carries top weight. A win would not surprise but he lacks a killer blow.
The trainer-jockey combination has a good strike rate. However, with no race experience, it's a leap of faith, and the jockey's overall record is modest.
Produced the best debut run in this field when fourth at Taupo over 1100m, running on strongly from midfield. Steps to 1200m, draws the inside gate, and carries a light weight. Stable has a modest strike rate but the horse has obvious upside. The unknown is the jockey booking, but the form is strong enough to top-pick.
Has shown ability in patches, including a close fifth at Hawera two starts back where he settled on pace. Last start was a forgive run after being wide and crowded. Draws well, drops to a suitable 1200m, and the trainer has a good record at this track.

Glengyle Angus Mdn
The most complete form in the race. Three placings from four starts, including at Woodville, and a Good surface should suit better than the heavy tracks he has met.
Third and fifth in two starts, beaten under half a length over 1400m at Waverley behind the horse we've put on top, and she closed it out strongly. She is a Savabeel filly from a strong stable with clear upside now third-up and she already looks a genuine 1400m type. The wide draw is the worry — on a tight, turning track she will need luck or to be sent forward.
Had the run of the race at Woodville last start over 1200m, settling second and leading into the straight before condition told late. Second-up now and out to 1400m, which on his Churchill pedigree should suit, and he strips fitter for the step up. The draw of 14 is a real handicap around a tight turning track and he still has to prove he sees out the trip, but the stable wins here and he has enough gate speed to offset some of it.
Her form line badly undersells her. She bucked at the start on debut and was ordered back to the trials, then stepped up sharply to finish third in a 3yo sweepstakes at Otaki, closing from sixth after being checked near the 900m. That is stronger company than this maiden, she is clearly improving with racing, and she has the draw to take a handy sit.

Doo You Want Me Syndicate Mdn
He is trained by a stable going well, links with a jockey-trainer pairing that has clicked at better than one in five, and gets the prized inside gate at a turning track where a handy position is an edge. Fitness and raceday manners are the unknowns.
A consistent mare who has been placed at this course and trip and gets the inside gate, which should let her settle closer than she did last start. Her trainer is going well and has a proven record here, and the jockey rides this track successfully.
He was beaten under two lengths over 1200m here last start, has placed at this course and brings easily the strongest formline and the biggest prizemoney tally in a thin maiden field. He has also run well over 1400m on good ground at Trentham and the draw lets him settle in the first half dozen, which matters here.
He is second up and fitter, draws to be prominent again, and his jockey knows this circuit well. Twelve starts without a placing is the obvious concern, but much of his racing has been on rain-affected ground and a sounder surface may suit.

Jones Brothers Painting (Bm75)
He is a proven 1400m performer with a strong second-up record and ran on well for third last start after settling last. From barrier six he should sit closer in a race that may lack pace, and the 2kg claim helps his top weight. The slow tempo is a genuine query, but his quality and consistency make him the most likely winner.
Possess is from the powerful Kevin Myers yard and looks well placed on pace. He was consistent last prep in stronger company, including placings in Open and BM75 races, and has won fresh. The query is the drop to 1400m, where he has had only one unplaced start, but his tactical speed should suit a slow tempo. A solid place chance.
Sevenayes drops from Open company and has a likeable record at Woodville, including two placings over this trip. He was disappointing first-up but is entitled to improve second-up, and barrier one should give him a soft run. His best form is on good ground, so the conditions suit.
Exaggeration is an interesting value runner. He has won three of ten and is well suited at 1400m, with two wins and two placings from eight tries. He resumes after a break but has won fresh, and the light weight with a 3kg claim helps. The concern is that his best form is on synthetic surfaces and he is yet to win on turf.

BWAG Best Windows & Glass (Bm65)
Her last two runs in this grade were the best sprints of anyone in the field, beaten under four lengths both times after settling in a handy spot, and she was unlucky not to finish closer at Hawera when shuffled back at a vital stage. Bill Thurlow has a fine record at this circuit and barrier five should see her lob just off a moderate tempo.
She is the one they have to catch. Second-up last preparation she won. The concern is that she faded at Ellerslie last start and the wider draw may force her to work early, but on a tight, short-straight track she is a serious place chance.
Lightly raced four-year-old who produced arguably the best closing effort in the field first-up at Hawera in a genuinely run race. He dropped back to 1000m fresh and will appreciate returning to 1200m, a trip he won and placed over last campaign.
She has twice finished in the placings here, drops slightly in grade, draws perfectly in gate two and was beaten only a couple of lengths over this trip in this grade last start after sitting handy from a wide gate.

Entain/NZB Insurance Pearl Series (Bm65)
Won at this track and trip only 25 days ago, settling handy and proving too strong in the same grade. Drawn to get a similar trip from gate eight and the rider-trainer pairing is going well. The only real knock is her limited record on good ground, but she is fit, in form, proven here and looks the one to beat in an even race.
A progressive three-year-old who has won or placed in all three starts and keeps producing the strongest closing burst in the field. She is lightly raced with plenty of upside, draws well and has an in-form rider aboard.
A consistent mare with the best black-type-ish form in the field, twice placed in stronger company before a break.
Ran a bold fourth over this course and distance last time when resuming, beaten just over a length, and should be fitter second-up. A strong each-way play in an open contest.

PGG Wrightson Dannevirke (Bm65)
The drop in class from stakes company is a big help, and Good ground and a handy draw suit.
A lightly raced 4-year-old stepping up in grade, and one that looks to be getting better. It ran on well enough last start and the stable's Woodville record is excellent. Needs a bit of luck from barrier 11 and has never raced on Good ground.
Steadfast has run second and third at Bm65 level over 1600m in the last month, finishing strongly both times. Barrier 10 and a settling spot back in the field are worries on a tight track, but a moderate tempo should let it get into the race.
Says I Do has barrier 1 and strong speed, which should give it the run of the race on a tight track with only one other real leader. It has won at this level and on this surface, and last start's flat run on a Trentham track was from a wide draw on a quick tempo.
