The only knock is that she concedes a start and needs the pace on, and her latest run was plain in stronger company.

Rumore Family (Bm50)
She has a nice turn of foot and her rider and trainer combine well, but she always gives away a start and will need clear air in the straight from a slightly awkward gate.
His first-up run over this trip was honest after covering ground and there should be more to come. The reservation is that his strongest form has come at 1400m and further, and his rider and trainer have had a lean run together.
Canberra specialist with six wins and six seconds from 28 starts here and three wins at this exact trip around the course. He has been close up without luck in similar grade, including a two-length fifth at Bombala last week, and now gets the inside gate with first-time visors.

Jessica Heaton Mdn Plate
Best-credentialled runner in the race. She has been mixing it in stronger company and ran a genuine mile race at Goulburn last start, beaten a length after giving away a start and covering extra ground. Her record at 1600m (three placings from four) stands out in this field, and the Pfieffer/Collett team is in good form with a strong record here. Slow starts and the outside gate are the knocks, but her class and fitness edge should outweigh them.
The step to the mile suits on type. However, he was beaten four lengths when everything fell into place last time, his rider and stable are both out of form and he is yet to prove himself at this trip.
He came from midfield to be beaten under two lengths over 1460m at Queanbeyan last start, which reads as the strongest run any of these has produced recently. Blinkers go on first time for a yard with a great record at Canberra and a jockey riding well here. With just two runs behind him, the step to a mile looks ideal. The query is his get-back style in a race that may be steadily run.
Her last two runs are the strongest pair of recent performances in this field — a closing fourth here over 1200m after sitting wide without cover, then a length third over 1400m at Orange where she hit the front and just peaked late. The mile now looks the natural next step and gate two should see her land handy behind an even tempo.

Nexus Developments Hcp (C1)
The form horse of the race. He won his maiden two starts back then flew home from well back to run a close second over the mile here last time, beating two of today's rivals. He maps for a soft midfield trail and is clearly the one to beat; the only question is handling the extra 400m while carrying top weight.
A lightly raced 3yo on the up who closed strongly for third over 1800m last start. Blinkers go on, he gets in light at 55kg and his stable knows how to win here.
She has made this track and trip her own without winning - four starts here over 2000m for four seconds, including two narrow defeats in her last two.
A consistent mare who drops in grade and was a closing third here over the mile last start after being slowly away and held up.

Keikoku is the horse to beat. Two starts back he came from near last to win over this exact track and trip on a good surface, and last start he was slowly away, still last on the turn and stormed home for second in a stronger Showcase Open. With three speedsters engaged and a genuinely hot tempo expected, his get-back style is the right profile, and his Canberra record is outstanding. The one real query is the weight swing against the horse he beat here.
Action King is the safest horse in the race. He has a strong 1000m record, is rarely out of the finish, and his last-start third here behind the top pick was a genuinely competitive run after settling fourth. He should land in the first half dozen, and if the pace is as hot as expected he will be finishing over the top of tiring leaders. The weight relief gives him a real chance to turn the tables, but he does need to find a bit on his last two runs.
But the handicapping sits against him: he carries top weight, has never won second-up, and his preferred on-pace style looks awkward in a race where at least three runners will contest the lead.
Her first-up run at Newcastle was better than it reads - she made ground in a race dominated by the leaders and will be far better suited to a hot 1000m tempo today with a second-up record of a win, a second and a third. The booking of a 25 per cent rider is a strong pointer and she drops in class weight wise.

Stacey Bright (Bm60)
She drops back from stronger company, where her Wagga third was the best recent 1000m run in this field. She is a true 1000m type and her claim gives her a handy weight drop. The concern is the speed battle from a wide gate on a track where on-pace runners have struggled lately. Her class edge in this grade should still see her prominent at the finish.
She can be forgiven her first-up run, when she was interfered with at the start and had a wide trip. She ran close to winning standard at Moruya and Cowra early in the year and has run well over Canberra 1000m before. A fast pace should set the race up for her to finish off.
He is an improving type who won his maiden at Newcastle and is open to more improvement. He is a genuine chance but sits behind the top two on proven form.
He is in the form of his life with two straight wins, and his Cootamundra win rates with the best in this race. The drop back to 1000m with top weight is a question, but he can sit off the speed and finish off. That suits a race expected to be run hot.

The negatives are 60kg first-up and a modest good-track record, but the stable and jockey are strong and the gear changes look deliberate.
The obvious danger. She is race-fit, placed at Canberra over a bit further and gets significant weight relief from the topweight. Barrier two should allow an economical run just off the speed.
She has no race experience but was not beaten far in two trials and the stable and jockey combination has a decent record. Being the stable's only runner adds intent.
Setta Icon was a brave second at Canberra last start after being held up, and he now steps to 1200m second-up. He maps as the likely leader from barrier three in a moderate tempo, which could give him an uncontested lead. He has placed over this trip and at this track, but he has had 12 chances and the jockey is struggling for winners.
The value play. The jockey is riding well and she maps to settle midfield.

TAB Federal Tony Campbell Memorial Cup
The form pick. She has been racing in stronger company and was beaten under two lengths here two starts back after being held up, before a midfield effort at Warwick Farm. Drawn gate one, she can settle closer than usual, but she does get back and Canberra is not a track that rewards that pattern.
She drops out of tougher company and maps to settle in the first few in a race without genuine tempo pressure, which suits. The query is the mile at her first attempt, and she folded after leading over 1400 here last start.
She maps to sit outside the leader and should get first run at them. Against her: only three wins from eighteen with a stack of minor placings, a quick six-day backup, and a rider who rarely wins here.
Improving mare who turned in her best run this preparation over this trip at Kembla, closing strongly after losing the whip, and she has won over 1400 on good ground. Drawn to get a soft trail midfield behind a moderate tempo. Yet to win at this level and a first look at Canberra, so keep the stakes modest.

Enlighten Homes Plate (C2)
Blue Monday is the best horse in the race on what she has shown. Her Group 3 run over 1400m, where she was held up and still got within two lengths, is better than anything else in this field has done. Her first-up run in a BM72 was solid and should bring her on, and she won at her only other second-up start. She gets back, so the main risk is getting a clear run, but she has much more class than this grade.
Our Huntress has the best map in the race. She can find the lead from barrier 4, there is no other genuine leader, and the expected pace is moderate. She has yet to win on good ground and has been run down late recently, but she will be hard to catch if she gets a soft lead.
Famoso would have gone close at Canberra last start with a clear run, and his recent form puts him in this race. However, he has won only twice from 20 starts, has never raced at 1400m and races back in the field when the pace may not be strong. He is a solid place chance.
She has won twice on good ground and has run well at Canberra.
