This colt won both recent Flemington jump-outs, clocking the quickest times in the group, and lands the prized inside gate on a testing Heavy 9. His trainer-and-jockey pairing has a win and two placings from just five starts together, and the rider's only mount of the day is here. Fitness, speed and the draw all align; the queries are a first race-day start and a sire yet to prove himself in the mud.

Darley Maribyrnong Trial Stakes
Brings the strongest riding and training combination in the race. Blake Shinn is riding brilliantly and goes well here, while Michael Freedman's yard is firing. By leading speed sire Written Tycoon, he won a recent trial on soft going, hinting the heavy conditions will be no problem. A slightly wider gate and just one public trial are the knocks, but the quality around him makes him a serious winning chance.
The main queries are a jockey-and-trainer pairing still chasing its first win together and a slightly trickier gate than the top two. Still a genuine place hope and one to keep onside.
This Snitzel filly won both recent trials, including one on soft ground, and as a lightly weighted speedster looks well suited to a heavy track. Trainer and jockey records at Flemington are modest, but she is a live each-way chance well above fair value.

TAB One Pool (Bm78)
Three wins from her last five and easily the best wet-track profile among the on-pace runners - two wins and a placing from five heavy starts. Led and won by six lengths on a heavy ten at Warrnambool and was beaten a length after leading at Sandown last start. Drawn perfectly in five, carries only 55.5kg and can control or sit handy.
Holds the strongest wet-track profile in the race and the best closing speed of any runner - won on a heavy nine in New Zealand and placed on both heavy and soft ground. Carries just 54.5kg with Craig Williams aboard and is a second-up winner. Has been placed in half her starts. The concern is barrier 17; from out there on a heavy track she will need luck to find a run, and she has only two wins from eleven.
Won well second-up at Caulfield Heath and has the in-form Mark Zahra aboard for a stable going at 35 per cent. Rises only marginally in grade and clearly has upside.
Drawn the inside gate in barrier one, which is a real asset on a heavy Flemington track, and he drops back in grade.

Howden Super Impose Stakes
The form pick. His fifth in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude was a clear step up on anything his rivals have shown in maiden and handicap grade, and he is the only runner here to have won on heavy ground. Zahra returns for Maher and he has the early speed to take a handy spot from a middle gate. He must settle better than he did at Sandown and prove he runs 1800m, but his breeding says he should.
He is not on top because that win came off a slow tempo, he has never seen heavy ground or gone past 1500m, and he lacks the early speed to hold a spot from barrier 1 in a 14-horse field. Flemington in the wet has been punishing horses who settle back.
The Dundeel colt should be better suited at 1800m second-up and has the speed to take a forward spot, which is where winners have been coming from on wet ground here. The wide gate is the main problem and heavy ground is an unknown, though he has won on soft.
He is being judged harshly on a flat Sandown run when he carried 60kg and gave Lepolo 3.5kg; they meet at level weights here. He is the only Flemington 1800m winner in the race, was placed in the Listed Taj Rossi Final at the track, and ran well on heavy ground here as a two-year-old. From barrier 3 he should settle in the first few, the right place to be on this surface.

TAB One Pool Edward Manifold Stakes
Looks the one to beat on form. Her second in the Thousand Guineas Prelude is the strongest lead-up run of any rival here, and she did it sitting handy and finishing off strongly. That racing style is exactly what wins on a bog at Flemington, where backmarkers have been left behind. The queries are the wideish gate, first try at the mile and first look at heavy ground, but she has the class to overcome them.
A lightly-raced improver whose profile fits this race beautifully. She got the job done well at Geelong last time and, crucially, settles on the pace, which is exactly where you want to be on a Heavy 9 at Flemington. The jump from maiden company to a Group 2 is the obvious question, but the stable is firing, the draw is kind and her racing style should keep her out of trouble.
The concern is purely tactical: she is a get-back run-on type, and on a Heavy 9 at Flemington the leaders and stalkers have been winning while the closers paddle.
She has already won on a heavy track and gets the inside draw, which matters a lot at Flemington with the rail out nine metres and the track a bog.

Cirka Rose Of Kingston Stakes
The one to beat. A lightly raced four-year-old who has won five of eight and has a strong record over this trip, she handles wet ground and won on a heavy track earlier in the campaign. She sat handy and was run down in the Let's Elope here last start but finished close up, and with the speed drawn wide she should get cover off the pace.
Winner of six of eight and never unplaced, she is the most reliable mare in the field. She is proven on heavy ground and races up on the speed. The queries are the first try at 1400m and a wide gate, and a hot tempo could pressure her on the lead, but she is fit, in form and hard to leave out.
A genuine distance specialist who has won four of six at 1400m and handles wet ground, she is drawn to get a soft run from barrier five. She ran an encouraging race here in the Let's Elope, beaten only a length and a half, and gets in on a light weight.
She handles heavy ground, is drawn the inside gate and is second-up, a scenario in which she traditionally runs well. If she controls the tempo from barrier one she could prove hard to peg back. The fast forecast tempo is the risk, but at 27-1 she is a clear each-way overlay.

Asahi Super Dry Danehill Stakes
The class runner of the field and the one to beat. She has won a Group 3 over 1100m and finished third at Group 1 level, and she is unbeaten at this trip, with every run on soft ground. She settles handy and has a sharp turn of foot. The main queries are a wide gate and a first look at Heavy going, but her class should carry her a long way.
A Group-class juvenile who won a rich two-year-old feature and has already won on heavy ground. From the Maher stable with Zahra riding, he rattles home hard and handles wet going. He gives away a start as a backmarker, which is a worry on a testing surface, but his closing speed and class make him a major player.
She was a strong second in a Listed sprint over this course last start after a dominant maiden win, and she gets in with a featherweight. She settles midfield and attacks the line, and her draw is ideal. The only query is the sharp rise in grade, but she looks up to it.
A progressive colt who won well on a heavy track two runs back, beating older horses. He is drawn ideally in gate two, races handy, and Craig Williams knows him well. His Flemington run last start was full of merit and he drops to a light weight.

The Lexus Bart Cummings
Racing in career-best form at the right time. She chased home the winner over 2000m at Caulfield, then boxed on for fifth over this exact trip at Flemington in a strong form race. Suited by an on-pace role in a slowly-run staying contest and only carries 54kg, with a good record at the track. The only real query is a first look at a genuinely heavy surface.
A heavy-track winner who will settle handy from a good draw. He was the best of today's rivals in the Naturalism Stakes last start and strips fitter second-up into his campaign. The queries are the top weight and the fact he has never raced at Flemington or over this trip.
She owns the best finishing burst here and has won over 2500m. The worry is she settles at the tail, and in a slowly-run race on a heavy track the leaders can get away with it. Genuine place claims but risky to win from there.
Respect him, but he is not bombproof on this surface.
In-form on-pacer who has been competing at Group level in Sydney, finishing a close second in the Kingston Town last start. He has won and placed on wet ground and his forward-racing style suits Flemington on a heavy track, where leaders and handy runners are favoured and backmarkers struggle. He gets a decent middle draw and stays well enough, having placed at 2600m.
The standout wet-track mare here — two wins and two placings from five heavy-track runs — and she gets the inside gate and a feather weight. Her recent Sydney runs in stronger races were not far away and she drops into a weaker contest.

TAB Turnbull Stakes
His first-up run behind a hot Group 1 field was a sound platform and he is second-up today, a stage where he improves sharply. He settles in the handy band that wins these heavy-track staying races. Everything points to him being the one to beat.
A genuine Group 1 staying mare with a strong record on rain-affected ground and a close second in a strong Randwick Group 2 last start. She draws ideally in barrier two, carries a light 57kg and settles handy, exactly where a heavy Flemington 2000m is won. Her only heavy run produced a placing, and she had excuses in her lone miss this preparation. A clear second pick who could easily win.
The track-and-distance specialist of the field, unbeaten in two starts over this course and trip and placed in a hot Caulfield lead-up last time. The knock is a sharp rise in grade, a wide draw and a get-back style on a heavy track, but his Flemington 2000m record is the best in the race.
A fit, wet-track mare who profiles neatly for a heavy Flemington 2000m. She races on the speed, lands in the mid draws that win most, carries only 55kg and is second-up, the stage at which she has won twice from four tries. Her rider has a fine record on her and the stable is firing.

Gilgai Stakes
A proven wet-track sprinter who has won twice from three heavy starts and loves Flemington, where he has two wins and two placings. He settles handy, a plus on testing ground, and ran a close fourth in the Bobbie Lewis before leading and boxing on in the Aurie's Star. The wide gate is the main knock, but his class and wet form make him the one to beat.
She handles the trip, was placed on her only heavy start and has a good second-up record. The concern is that she gets back in her races, which is a difficult way to win up the heavy Flemington straight, so she shapes as a solid placing hope rather than a confident win.
Building a nice record this campaign and was game when second behind Losesomewinmore in the Bobbie Lewis, leading and fighting on. From barrier three he should land in a handy spot, which is ideal for these conditions. He has yet to prove himself on heavy ground, which is the query, but he is improving and well drawn.
The value runner. He won the Bobbie Lewis over this track and trip last start and has an outstanding Flemington record, having won six times from ten starts here. He comes from well back but a fast tempo up front should suit him.

HKJC World Pool Paris Lane Stakes
He is unbeaten in two heavy-track runs and owns seven soft-track wins, and he steps out from an ideal inside gate carrying just 54.5kg. Two wins from his last four starts say he is at peak fitness.
This six-year-old is trending the right way, charging home from last to grab second in the Tontonan Stakes here before a solid wet-track placing. He is proven on rain-affected ground and climbs into the placings regularly. Drawn to settle handy, with the stable/jockey partnership in form.
A genuine wet-track performer who has won three and placed three times from nine heavy starts and comes off a close second in the Heatherlie Stakes. He handles this class and rarely runs a bad race.
The value runner. A heavy-track specialist with three wins and a second from six wet starts, he has the prized inside draw, just 54kg and enough early toe to lead. He won strongly two runs back and is fit.
