Brilliant Deejay is the form improver. His Te Aroha third over today's trip on heavy, under 65kg, was a far better performance than anything else these maidens have produced lately, and he meets Soft 7 with a 6.5kg pull in the weights. Each-way covers the variance.

Super Patch maps as the lone leader in a race the speed map has as slow, which is the right shape for a provincial maiden mile. He has already run third at Hawera on heavy and third at Te Rapa after leading all the way. He has not tried soft ground and he did tire when on the pace at Te Aroha, while the rider is still winless at the track. Those limits keep him third, with an each-way stake rather than a win-only play.
His only start was a Matamata maiden third on Soft 7, and he ran right up to a winning provincial standard while racing prominently before tiring late. The same going, a 56kg weight and the Pinn booking for Walker and Bergerson make him the most likely winner of an open maiden.
Escape Room is the value. He has already run second at this trip on soft and was a respectable fourth last start on heavy under 68.5kg, so today's 58.5kg is a meaningful relief.

Egmont Tyres (Bm65)
Reconvene is the form horse in a slowly run mile. He has won and placed at Hawera over this trip, both times with Sarah Macnab.
Wonderboy maps as the only leader and a slow mile asks him to control the race and still quicken, which his on-pace record supports. Soft 7 should ride kinder.
On Shaw is the third chance because the last start flatters him once the weight is allowed for. He meets 57.5kg here and has already won a mile on Soft 7. Kelly Myers rides only him and is striking at 30 percent.
Tom Wigram jumps on at 55.5kg. The catches are real: he has never won on soft from 11 starts, he is a backmarker in a race that should be run slowly, and the stable is cold.

Truly Divine is the form horse in a wide Hawera maiden. She has raced only on soft, with thirds at this trip at Wanganui and again three weeks ago at Taupo over 1100m, and she is second-up off that run. Pike is placing runners steadily and 54kg from barrier 9 fits a sprint that has favoured mid-to-outer gates. She still has to turn placings into a win after being run down when she led, but she is the one to beat on exposed form.
Joyful Anna is a debut filly whose case rests on the booking. Barrier 5 and 54kg are workable in a compressed handicap. Bergerson's recent numbers are only fair and he has yet to win at Hawera from a small sample, and there is no form on soft ground.
Cody Cole's recent strike rate and Samantha Collett's Hawera record are the right debut profile, and 54kg is a help. With no public form she is judged on trainer, rider and pedigree, and that case is sound without being overwhelming. Barrier 17 is the knock on a track whose sprint draws have preferred the middle to outer gates rather than the extreme outside.
Diplomatic is the only runner in the field who has already won, and he did it on heavy ground after a soft-track third, so today's Soft 7 is in his range. Sharrock is firing and has a strong Hawera record.

NZB Ready To Run Sale Trainers Series (Bm65)
Fancypants is the form horse. He drops out of BM75 after two close fourths on soft and, earlier this year, ran right up to a winning standard when second at Trentham and when he won on heavy at New Plymouth, both at 1200m. He has already won at Hawera and is a first-up winner.
Too Sweet brings the right rider and a fitness edge, being second-up after a heavy-track third at Trentham a fortnight ago. Her summer form in three-year-old company, including a strong soft-track fourth at Trentham, says she can win a BM65 when she gets a clean run.
Intention is a class mare resuming for her second run back, a profile that already includes a win and a third. Her last start, a soft-track fourth in three-year-old company, was a performance good enough for this BM65, and she has placed twice from four soft starts including a 1200m stakes third.
Aliyana Belle is the overlay. She has already won a BM65 at Hawera over 1200m and her last two heavy-track runs, a fifth at Waverley and a seventh at Hastings, were honest efforts at today's level. She gets in with 55kg and maps handy, which helps if the two leaders go hard.

Johnny Neil Builders (Bm75)
She is second-up after a honest fourth in this grade on soft, and she has already placed on heavy at the trip.
Country Salon returns first-up for a stable that is winning, and he has already won fresh. Before the break he won over 1400m on heavy and ran a close second on soft, so today's Soft 7 suits. He meets a deeper field after 162 days off and his rider is quiet, which is why he sits third rather than on top.
She won similar company over 1400m on soft at Te Rapa three weeks ago, moving forward and holding them out, and her only other second-up start was a win. A moderate tempo and her on-pace style suit Hawera's long straight. The weight rise and those earlier heavy failures stop her being a certainty, but she is still the horse most likely to win.
Florin is the value. She has been placing in this grade and in stronger company on rain-affected tracks, including a 1400m second and a third after being slowly away and wide.

Qali Al Farrasha is the form horse in a Group 3. She has already mixed it in stakes races, handles soft ground, and is the only horse drawn to lead a race the map says will be run slowly, which plays to a mare who can dictate. She has won fresh before.
Girl Talk brings the best current wet-track form into this. She is three from seven on soft, won second-up last preparation, and chased home strongly on heavy at Hastings when several of today's rivals were behind her or further back.
Circus Dancer is the on-pace filly most likely to track Qali Al Farrasha. She has won all three heavy starts, including at 1400m, and she won when second-up. Soft 7 is near the ground she loves, though she is still 0 from 3 on genuine soft.
Honey Badger is the overlay. She lives on heavy ground, with five wins and eight minor placings from sixteen starts, and three weeks ago she ran third in the same Hastings race Girl Talk finished second in. Soft 7 is close to that ground, so the blank soft record from only three starts is a light knock.

Weir Tours Egmont Cup
Sunset Boulevard is the form pick in an open 2100m on Soft 7. He has already won at the trip in open company and his soft record is three wins from 12. Malachy is shorter because of three 2100m wins, but those were in lesser races and he maps as a backmarker where Hawera stayers from the rear rarely win.
Solidify maps as the natural leader and Hawera staying races have been kind to horses who settle in the first three. He has four wins from 19 on soft and a strong 2100m record, and he was third in an open 2100m on soft ground only a fortnight ago. The danger is a contested lead with Ayteem, Rosetown Princess and Trav also wanting the front, so he needs to control the race rather than burn it.
Coney Island has been the most reliable wet horse in the lower grades, with seconds at 1800m, 2000m and 2100m and a close fourth in a heavy 2100m last start. Those runs were strong enough to suggest he can handle the rise, and barrier 2 lets him sit on the pace.
Soft 7 is the question: he has never won on soft in 11 tries, and from barrier 15 he will be back in a staying race that favours horses near the speed. A small each-way stake covers a wet-track replay without treating him as a win hope.

Denis Wheeler Earthmoving (Bm65)
Leprekhan is the horse best suited to a slow 2100m at Hawera. She has already won this course and distance on rain-affected ground, places when she races handy, and gets in with 56kg.
Come To Terms has the wet-track and Hawera 2100m record the race is crying out for, with a win and two seconds from five tries at the track and trip and a soft record of one win and two placings from six. She was a close third in this grade last start and drops to 54kg. The risk is the map: she settles back and a slow pace makes that harder. Each-way covers a horse who places more often than she wins.
Malibu is the wet-track staying horse whose form actually matches Soft 7. He has one win and three placings from ten on soft, including a 2200m soft win in which he travelled and finished with purpose, and he has already placed at Hawera. He is second-up, where he is yet to place from two starts, and Allpress is in a cold run of rides.
He is the only natural leader, Kelly Myers is riding in peak form, and last start on heavy at Te Aroha he took the race along and ran right up to a winning standard before finishing fifth. Grass form is the hole: one win from 31 starts, and that win was on synthetic, with a blank record on soft and heavy.
