Alone in front in a slowly-run 2400m, he can dictate and wind up from the turn at a track that rewards on-pace runners. He has dropped in grade after a fine second at Mornington and has won at this level on Good. Stamina is the one query, as he has faded when leading over this trip, but the slow pace and class drop help his cause.

Batesford Hotel (Bm70)
On a rise, with three wins from his last four and a dominant 2400m win last start. He should settle handy despite the wide barrier, which suits a slow tempo. The stable is firing and the track and trip are a good fit.
A talented mare who should sit handy behind the leader in a slow race. Her stamina is unproven past 2100m and she meets the boys for the first time in a race over a trip longer than she has tried.
An 8-year-old who is a course and distance winner and should sit handy in a slow race. He ran well in Bm78 company at Morphettville, finishing second, and drops in grade today. The stable's lack of recent winners and his tendency to over-race keep him as a value play only.

Hall Chadwick (Bm66)
Easily the best placed of the class droppers. She has been racing in much stronger mares' company and her fast-finishing third two runs ago says she is well up to this. Last start is a write-off after she knuckled badly at the start, with the rider unhappy with her action. Drawn to sit just off a genuine tempo and she is a proven 1100m winner.
Honest, consistent galloper who has been placed in three of four fresh runs and has two recent jumpouts to have him fit. The knock is the win column, one success from sixteen starts, and 1100m fresh looks a shade sharp for a horse whose best is 1200-1400m. A place is the percentage play at the shorts.
Geelong 1100m specialist who has won all three of his starts here, including both over this trip, and he does it by leading. He was only fair at Bendigo last start but has had a freshen and returns to his happy hunting ground. In a race where the speed map hands him the lead, he is the one they have to chase down.
She resumed with a good win at this grade, is fit third-up and gets a top jockey who rides this track well.

Prestige Event Hire (Bm70)
She is unbeaten (3:3-0-0), second up after leading and winning a BM66 at Ballarat three weeks ago, and she is the only natural leader in a moderate race. Geelong rewards horses that are in the first three turning for home, and she should get that run.
Lario is the best roughie with the right map. He has won three of four at Geelong, his last campaign included a BM78 win and a narrow BM76 second, and he can settle on the pace from barrier 3. First-up he has won once and placed in three of five.
Misty Whisper has the strongest recent performances, with a maiden win and two Geelong placings from the back, and 56kg from barrier 2 helps. The map works against him: he is a closer, this tempo should be moderate, and horses buried at the 400m rarely win here. Good ground is also unproven (1:0-0-0).
Attachments has been racing honestly without quite winning. She was beaten a length and a bit into third at Caulfield Heath two starts back and kept coming from the tail on synthetic last start. She has already run to a placing standard over 1300m on Good ground, and barrier 4 gives Declan Bates a chance to be closer than her usual midfield spot. The trainer is cold and a rearward sit is a handicap here, so she is a place chance rather than the horse to beat.
He walked in a BM70 at Ballarat and won the start before that, and he has a win and a placing from three first-up runs. Barrier 1 gives Stockdale a chance to be closer than his usual back-of-the-field pattern.

Geelong Caravanning Leisurefest (Bm66)
Drops out of much stronger fillies races into this grade with the right profile for Geelong: brilliant early speed and a soft draw in five, so she should lead or sit outside the leader in a race lacking pressure. Her autumn effort when leading over 1440m at Caulfield was full of merit, and she has the class on paper to be in the finish. The queries are a four-month break and a breathing issue the last time she led over this trip.
The eye-catcher of the meeting here a fortnight ago, coming from last to win a maiden right on the line, a run that defied the track's usual leader-friendly pattern. He is a three-year-old with upside at the bottom of the weights and he will be strong late over 1400m. The knocks are a steep rise into restricted company and a get-back style this track usually punishes, but he has already proven he can overcome that here.
She has won two of three, including a dominant last-start success over 1300m where she travelled like much the best horse in the race, and she was beaten narrowly here over 1100m first up, so the track holds no fears. She has enough early speed to slot in behind the speed despite the wide gate. The only query is a first try at 1400m, but her pedigree suggests it will suit.
Raced without luck first up here when held up before finishing hard for third over 1250m, and he strips fitter second up. He is unbeaten on good ground, has a win and a placing from two starts at this track, and drops out of a much stronger three-year-old race. Drawn nicely in six for a stable that has a strong record here and only has this one runner at the meeting.

Roderick Insurance Brokers 3yo Geelong Classic
Cold Shower is the pick on form and map. He won at Geelong over 2270m two weeks ago, finishing strongly, and has the right profile for a slow-run 2200m. He should sit just off the lone leader from barrier 3, the best position at this track.
Icy You has the best class credentials, having run fourth in a Listed and second in an open 3yo handicap. He drew wide in barrier 11, but Craig Williams is strong at Geelong and can find a midfield spot. The step up to 2200m is the question, but his late work suggests he'll get it.
Murshidi is a genuine stayer and his Geelong second was a solid run. He gets a good draw and midfield position, with Blake Shinn riding.
He has the only genuine leading record in the field, a perfect barrier, and a slow tempo is likely to suit. He's been second on four of five starts and runs on well, but has struggled to hold off challengers. The class rise is significant, but if he gets an easy lead at a track that rewards front-runners, he's a real each-way chance.

Dundee Rock (Bm70)
Revolver is the form horse the map also helps. He is the only natural leader, draws barrier 6, and Geelong strongly favours horses that race in the first three. He has already won here at this trip, his second-up record is 3:2-1-0, and his good-ground record is 12:3-3-1.
Stay Humble is the horse for the track. Four starts at Geelong have produced two wins and two seconds, including a last-start win over 1765m and a strong second here on good. He is fit, the stable-jockey link is proven, and he carries weight well.
The drop from the Australasian Oaks is real. She is still only third because Geelong punishes horses that settle back, the pace looks only moderate, and she is drawn to be near last from barrier 1.
He was a sound third here over 1765m behind Stay Humble, saves ground from barrier 5, and McNeil rides for a stable that wins at Geelong.

Ladbrokes Geelong Cup
The Euphrates is the only true leader and should dictate a moderate 2400m on a track that heavily rewards on-pace runners. He won a Group 2 last month and was brave in the Metropolitan, so a Group 3 drop looks ideal. The 58.5kg is manageable and the combination of stable and jockey is potent. Best form in the field.
Vauban is a Group 1 performer of the highest quality in a Group 3, and his best runs would be too good for most of these. Jockey can find a position from the draw with a moderate tempo.
Litzdeel gets the perfect barrier and a light weight to sit handy behind the leader on a track that favours on-pace runners. She ran a gallant second in the Bart Cummings over a similar trip and has been consistent at this level. Winning has been hard to come by, but the map and weight are in her favour.
Soulcombe was caught wide and had no luck in the Herbert Power Stakes but ran on well for seventh. Drawing barrier 2 and a drop in grade should help him, and he has won over 2400m.

Scaada Environmental Dual Choice Plate (Bm84)
The only genuine leader in a moderate-tempo sprint, drawn well, and Geelong rewards horses on the speed. He ran a very good second first-up on Good ground at Cranbourne and should be fitter. He has been beaten late when leading before, but this field has little other early speed. He is the most likely winner on form and map.
He was winning before the spell, has a strong first-up record and gets a good draw and light weight. His midfield style is a mild negative in a race that may favour the speed, and the class rise is a question. He has the ability to win but I rate him just behind the leader on the map.
A mare who has been competing in Listed company and now gets a Bm84 from the inside gate. She has a good record at 1200m and the stable is strong at this track. Her recent runs in better grades show little winning form, and she is first-up. She remains a solid place chance if she settles handy from the rail.
His last run came first-up on Heavy ground, which he did not handle. On Good ground he has run to a winning standard in this type of race.

Sporting Globe MCC Series Heat 6 (Bm78)
Has been running to a winning standard in Bm84 company without getting the job done, and drops back to Bm78 here. The very fast tempo should give him a good run from midfield or just behind.
Rising mare who has never been out of the placings and won at Geelong last start. She steps up to Bm78 from a wide gate, which is a real test. The fast tempo should suit her finishing run, and her jockey and trainer both do well at this track.
I'm not putting him higher, though. He races at the back, which is a poor style at Geelong, and he has only one win from nine starts.
On pure class this horse is well above the rest of the field, having contested Group 1 and Listed races. First-up from a long spell with top weight and a cold stable is a significant risk, and he settles back. Worth an each-way play.
