On form she is the one to beat. She followed it with a solid third in a stronger BM66 on soft. Dropping back from a Highway into a Bench. 55, she has the early speed to sit just off the two leaders, which is where Canberra winners usually come from. Top weight is the only real question.

ETS Refrigeration (Bm55)
Her form is consistent and suits the wet ground. She won a BM58 at Gundagai on Soft 7 over this trip, a run good enough to win most races at this level, then was beaten less than a length last start after racing wide without cover on a heavy track. She drops a little in grade and her trainer is going well. The main negative is that she will settle further back than the leaders, but her form reads strongly on the wet. She is a solid place prospect.
She maps better than anything in the race. Barrier 1 and her early speed should put her right behind the two leaders, and she won her maiden on soft last start. Her last two runs were close to what should be needed here, and she places often.
His Queanbeyan second was better than it looks. He led, was only just caught on the same kind of ground as today, and that run is close to what should win a Bench. 55.

On form she is the most likely winner. Her last two starts were a win in a Goulburn Plate and a close second in a Randwick Championships Final. She has proven form on soft and heavy ground, and her rider has won on her 5 times from 11 rides. Being first up and settling midfield are the concerns, but she won first up once before and has plenty of class in hand.
She has early speed, the light weight and a good map for a track that favours runners near the lead. But her last two runs at Randwick, 10th and 5th, were well below winning standard. She has also won only once from 5 starts on soft.
She won over this course and distance last start on soft ground. She won that race carrying 61.5kg and gets a big weight drop today. Soft ground brings out her best: all 3 of her wins have come on it. The step up to Open class is steep. Settling near the back is also a concern at a track that favours on-pace runners, though backmarkers have fared a little better at recent meetings. She rates a solid each-way chance for a strong Canberra stable and jockey.
In April she beat Open company over this track on the same Soft 5 ground, and she has never been worse than second in 5 starts at Canberra. Her best runs are as good as anything in this race. Being first up, her poor last start and a back-running map are real concerns.

Charman Earthmoving (Bm50)
Prophet Time comes into this off the best recent form in the race: she ran third in a BM60 over this course and distance last start, and she now drops to BM50. She should settle just behind a genuine speed battle between Souk and Into The Fire, which suits her. Her soft-track placings are adequate.
Media Coverage's second at Queanbeyan on a Soft 5 track, beaten a short half-head, was a winning-standard performance and one of the best recent runs in this field. His soft record shows he handles the going, and he can race handy, which suits the track. His poor strike rate, wide draw and extra weight are real concerns.
Coming from the back at an on-pace track leaves him needing luck.
Yael's Delight is the value runner. She has the best wet-track record in the field and was running consistently well before her spell. Barrier 6 and a light weight should get her a handy run at a track that favours on-pace runners.

Has been racing at a steady level and her recent runs are the closest in the field to Hellfighter's. Her Canberra fourth came after a bad start, and she ran on at Moruya for third. The step up to 1600m is a question, and she needs to settle closer than she has lately.
A consistent mare who is getting close. The inside draw lets her save ground in midfield, and the weight is light.
His last two runs, a narrow second on heavy ground at Wagga and a Class 1 third on Soft 5 at Queanbeyan, are the best recent form in the race. He comes back to maiden grade, draws well and should settle just off the lead in a race run at an even pace. That suits a Canberra maiden. He has lost a lot of close finishes, but on ability he should win this.
His best run over the mile is as good as anything in this field. He has placed at 3 of 5 starts, including on heavy ground. The worry is his racing pattern, because he settles near the back and Canberra maidens rarely suit backmarkers. He comes from a trial, and the rain-affected ground should help.

Waterland (Bm55)
He has the best recent form in this field. His third in a much stronger BM74 at Wagga and his second at Dubbo were both better than anything his rivals have run lately, and he now drops to BM55 over a trip he handles.
He looks the most straightforward runner in the race. From barrier 3 he should find a spot just behind the speed, which suits how this track has raced. He ran third over this course and distance last start, and his only win came on soft ground over further.
He goes on soft ground, and a midfield run should suit. The big question is the step up to 2000m, as he has never raced past 1750m, and the jockey has not been confirmed.
He won over this exact track, trip and ground last start, racing handy and holding on. Drawn barrier 1, he could hold a spot closer to the speed than the map suggests, and that type of run has been winning here.

His Bathurst second over 1400m on a Soft 5 was the strongest run by any horse in this field. He had led all the way that day, and that is the pattern that wins Canberra maidens. His first-up run at Hawkesbury was poor and can be excused because the blinkers came off. His soft-track trial in between suggests he is fit and ready. From barrier 8 he should get a handy spot at a moderate pace.
He was unlucky at Grafton, where he raced wide without cover and was only beaten four lengths in a run close to winning standard. He is lightly raced and should improve second up. He trialled well on a soft track. From barrier 3 he should find a spot just off the speed.
She is proven on soft ground and ran a sound race first up at Queanbeyan over 1000m. Going up to 1200m second up should suit her. Her main risk is that she settles midfield, because Canberra maidens tend to favour horses on the speed.
She has good early speed, so she can hold a handy spot, which suits Canberra maidens. Her soft-track record is the concern.
