She maps perfectly — inside gate, settles handy and can take over when the speed slackens, and Longreach rewards exactly that.

Should get the lead to herself with no other natural front-runner engaged, and that is a significant edge in a Longreach sprint where on-pace runners dominate. The booking of Nikki Olzard, riding at a strong strike rate and with a fine record at this track, is a plus, as is the yard's record with her. The knock is the form — she has been safely held and weakened after travelling well last time.
Suited by the trip — both of her career placings have come at 1200m, including a close second two runs back. Robert Faehr, who rode her that day, is back aboard and a nasal strip is added first time. The concerns are real, though: a seven-year-old maiden with no wins, a habit of beginning awkwardly and laying in, and a backmarker's pattern at a track where leaders have a clear edge. Place hope at best.
The value runner. Jade Doyle is riding in good form. Worth a small each-way play.

Chasing a fourth straight win and clearly the form horse of the field. He has two wins and a second from three starts over this course and distance and should get a soft run just behind the speed. The concern is the step up in grade and a jockey struggling for winners, but his record here commands respect and he is the one they have to beat.
Maps as the lone leader from the inside gate, exactly the profile that wins these Longreach sprints, and drops a long way in grade with the bottom weight. The knock is that she has never won over this trip in 14 attempts and is more of a place-getter than a winner, so she is best played to fill a hole rather than win.
Resumes from an 83-day break with the strongest recent performance in the field, a big win at this grade two starts back. The top jockey is riding in great form and he has a sound first-up record. The query is his get-back style at a track where backmarkers rarely win, so he needs the pace to be solid and the leaders to come back to him.
Honest mare who won here over this trip earlier in her career and was a close fourth at this grade last start, running on strongly. She is consistent at the distance with four wins. The negatives are clear though: top weight and a wide draw, both significant handicaps in a race the inside runners dominate.

Ardrossan Angus / BSN Trading Plate (C3)
Won first-up at Winton and now drops to 1000m for the first time, which looks ideal for a horse with good early speed. At Longreach the winners come from the on-pace division, and he projects to settle second behind the lone leader and get first run at it.
The most reliable recent form line in the field — he finished hard for third in stronger company last start and is a proven winner at this track and trip. He is consistent and handles good ground. The concern is that he gets back in the run, and Longreach 1000m races are won up front, so he will need the leaders to stop. Place claims are stronger than his win claims.
Won three on end, including at this track, before a 400-day break, and he is entitled to be forward enough for a stable that goes well here. His on-pace style is exactly what the Longreach speed profile rewards, and he should settle in the first few. The spell and a sharp rise in grade are real risks, so he is more an each-way than a win proposition.
The likely lone leader in a race the Longreach track profile says will be decided up front. She has won here before and has the early speed to control the tempo without pressure.

The horse to beat. He won the Open Plate over this exact course and trip in July, holding off I'm Zac, and has three wins from four starts at Longreach. He maps to stalk the leader, the position that wins most races here, and his rider has never been beaten on him. The two-month break is the query, but he has won and placed first-up before.
He charged home for second to Peninsula over this exact trip here in July and won over 1200m at Barcaldine before that. His jockey is in hot form and has a strong record on the horse. The worry is the map: he drops out from gate seven, and at Longreach the race is usually controlled in front. If the leaders come back to him he can win.
The most consistent runner in the field and a proven closer at this level. He rattled home for second over 1200m at Barcaldine, one of the better recent runs in the race. He has placed repeatedly at Longreach without winning, though, and his off-the-pace style is a genuine drawback at a track where on-pace runners control. A place looks his best hope.
The value angle. She should lead alone in a moderate-tempo race, and front-runners dominate at Longreach. She won over this course and distance in August and has been placed in three of four starts here. The knock is a big jump in grade out of a BM65, where she was beaten last time, and her form is trending down.

Grealy / Savage / Reed Memorial Plate (C5)
Still improving as a four-year-old. The knock is that he settles back in the field, and Longreach is a track where you want to be handy, so he will need to be closer on the turn and get clear running.
The best-placed runner in the race: he jumps and runs, lands in the box seat from a good gate and has won twice over this trip, with every one of his wins coming on good ground. The worry is a plain last start in stronger company and an out-of-form rider, but the on-pace pattern here suits him and he has the right track form to give this a real shake.
Drops sharply in class from open company and is a proven performer here, with a win and two placings from four starts at Longreach. He is reliable and rarely runs a bad race, and he gets in well at the weights. The knock is his get-back style, which is a genuine disadvantage at this track, but he can finish over the top if the pace is honest.
He finished a close second over this exact course and distance last start and will be up on the speed from the inside gate, which is exactly where you want to be at Longreach. The rider is going very well. The negatives are a stable that has not had a winner in a long time and a step up in grade.

GDL Blackall / Ballard Haulage (Bm50)
Leads from the inside gate at a track where front-runners have a clear edge, and she arrives in consistent form with three placings in her last four. She has the strongest recent form in the race and drops out of stronger company. Her only knock is a long run of placings without a win at this circuit and trip, but with the ideal map she gets every chance to break through.
Her recent runs have been close-up and her best form is good enough to win this. The concern is her get-back style at a track that rewards on-pace horses, so she will need the leaders to come back to her.
Drops sharply in grade after mixing it in much stronger company, and his last effort at this trip was the best run of anyone in this field. He settles handy and handles the distance well. The negatives are a wide draw and top weight, plus a quick back-up, so he needs luck early to find a spot.
The value play. He is a reliable on-pace type with an excellent record at this track and he maps to settle right up with the speed, which suits this circuit. He rarely runs a bad race and is always around the placings.

Longreach Cup/Country Cups Hcp
The one they have to catch. He leads them up and Longreach is a track where the on-pace runners control races, so his early speed from a good gate is a real weapon. He gets in on the minimum weight, a full 10kg under the topweight, and Nikki Olzard is riding in outstanding form. The knock is a modest winning record and no win in three tries at the mile. The most likely winner, but not one to mortgage the house on.
The class runner and clearly the form horse of the field. His third in the Birdsville Cup over the mile is the strongest recent effort here and he did it conceding weight. He has won twice at this course and saluted in his only try over the track and trip. The concerns are the 66kg topweight, a get-back style from a wide gate, and a jockey without a winner in twenty rides. Hard to leave out, best as a place play.
The course specialist - three wins and four placings from nine starts at Longreach. He draws inside in two and races on the speed, exactly the profile this track rewards, and Robert Faehr gets a good tune out of him. The worry is that his form is heading the wrong way and he is yet to win at the mile.
He has won six times from nineteen over the mile and has won here over the trip, plus he draws the inside gate, which is a big help at Longreach. He has been a consistent placegetter in Open company. The risk is that he rarely wins these days and one recent staying run was plain.
