The Taggart (Bm74)
The most consistent horse in the race and her second here over this trip last start was full of merit given she was forced wide without cover. Her form over the last three starts stands up at this level and a fast tempo is what she wants. The problem is the draw. From barrier 14 she will go back and need luck to weave through at a track that punishes backmarkers.
Politely Dun beat two of today's rivals when he came from last to win this exact race here three weeks ago on a soft track. The counters are a big weight rise to 61kg and a modest record on good ground.
She has been consistent at this level without quite running to a winning standard, but she gets an inside draw, a fast tempo and a grade drop.

HKJC World Pool Classics Preview
His Geelong maiden win and the prior Bairnsdale third were both run to a standard that would win most races at this level, and he can race handy from barrier 4, which is where Caulfield 1800m races are won.
Everything else about the map suits: she is the quickest beginner, should lead a moderate tempo on a track that rewards leaders over staying trips, and gets 2kg from the colts. Best played for a place given the pace pressure risk.
Frank Whisper produced the best distance-relevant form in the field when winning his Geelong maiden over 1700m, and as a son of Frankel the extra ground should suit. The stable has kept him fit with two jump-outs but he has not raced for seven weeks. The main worry is his racing pattern: he settles back and Caulfield over 1800m strongly favours horses on or near the speed, so he needs the leaders to overdo it.
Tiger Fox is the forgotten runner at 27-1. He fades when the tempo is hot, but the map suggests a moderate pace with two leaders in front of him to follow. Stable and rider combine well.

Peninsula Kubota (Bm100)
He is unbeaten in three starts over this course and distance and his Sir John Monash Stakes win here ranks as the strongest recent performance in the field, achieved above today's grade. He led and was run down in the Bletchingly, but drops back to his best trip with a jump-out win under his belt. A handy position from barrier 6 in a genuinely run race suits Caulfield perfectly.
Spywire has the class to win this and his Ballarat win over this distance on a good track was a genuine winning-standard performance. He has mixed it in Group 1 company since and a fourth at weight-for-age in Perth reads well against this field. The concerns are the wide gate under 60kg and a long gap since his last race start, though his Cranbourne jump-out second suggests he is close to ready. The fast tempo should bring him into it from midfield and Johnstone rides well for the stable. Solid each-way proposition.
His Ortensia win came with 53.5kg and he now carries 59.5kg into a stronger race, first time interstate, with a jockey who has had a lean run. His most recent trial was only fair.
Stokke is the overlay in this race. Her last two efforts can be forgiven, one on a heavy track after beginning awkwardly and the other held up in the straight on soft ground. On good tracks she has won five of eight and her Century Stakes success at Flemington was a genuine winning-standard performance. Damian Lane returns to ride and she gets in with 55kg. Worth an each-way saver.

Manhari Thousand Guineas Prelude
Profligate ran to a winning standard when fourth in the Atlantic Jewel, finishing hardest of anyone after being back in the field, and her Anzac Day Stakes second on a good Flemington track proves both the distance and the surface. With Grinzinger Heart and Icelady likely to press the tempo, she gets the race shape she needs from barrier 3.
She is not the top pick because she has yet to win in five starts, her only good-track run was a heavy defeat, and barrier 13 at Caulfield over 1400m is a proven handicap.
She got a long way back in the Atlantic Jewel but sprinted quickly for sixth, and from barrier 4 today she should be handy where Caulfield winners come from.
Mystical Realm is a lightly raced Maurice filly whose Sale maiden win was a strong performance for the grade, and her last-start fourth over an unsuitably short 1000m saw her hit the line hard. The rise to 1400m from barrier 1 is a clear positive and she should settle midfield in the sweet spot for Caulfield.

Sportsbet Caulfield Guineas Prelude
His McKenzie Stakes win was the strongest performance among this field, and he has already won a Listed race over 1400m on good ground at Flemington. The map is ideal with just Alchemistic likely to press him early, so he should control a moderate tempo from a handy spot and be hard to run down.
American Eagle has done nothing wrong in two starts and is already a Group 3 winner at Caulfield. His last-start win was workmanlike rather than dominant and both wins have come on rain-affected ground, so a good track is an unknown. Even so, the racing pattern of settling midfield with Zahra aboard fits the race shape well and the extra distance should suit a Too Darn Hot colt.
Wolf Gap was eye-catching running on for second behind Blind Raise at Sandown and he owns a Group 2 placing in the Todman from his juvenile campaign. The worry is his racing pattern. He was slow away and settled near last, and Caulfield at 1400m is unforgiving on horses that give away a start, especially when the tempo is only moderate.
Seraphox has been placed in his last two stakes starts, including a third to Blind Raise over 1400m on good ground at Flemington and a Group 3 third at Caulfield last time. He keeps finding the frame without winning, but the inside draw and a second-up record of one from one give him a real chance to improve here.

Sportsbet How Now Stakes
Her Caulfield 1200m win in March was the strongest performance any runner here has produced this year, and she followed it with a narrow fifth in a Group 1. The Moir was a throw-out on a bog track after missing the start. Second up she is two from two, the tempo will be genuine, and Zahra is flying.
Bridal Waltz has been placed at the highest level and is beautifully drawn to settle handy under Melham, who knows her well. The concern is that she has repeatedly run second or third in these races rather than winning them, and the fast tempo tilts the race slightly toward the finishers.
Custom is the form horse of the recent Caulfield sprints, having won the Courtza in strong fashion and beaten two of today's rivals. She is racing well and the map suits her. The clear question mark is the Good track, where she has never won. That may be a mare who was still developing rather than a genuine limitation, but it caps confidence.
Proved is the roughie with a real record. Six wins from nine starts, all on Good tracks, and a Group 3 victory over this exact course and distance last spring show she belongs at this level when conditions suit. Her first-up run was messy from the jump and on a Soft track she has never won on. The wide gate and jockey form keep this to a small each-way play.

Henley Homes Underwood Stakes
Cosmic Crusader has won half his starts, has already beaten most of these locals this campaign, and gets back to a good track and the 1800m where he produced a run of genuine Group 1 quality at Ascot. Drawn to settle just off the speed in a small field, which is where Caulfield winners come from.
The clear improver. Birdman's Brisbane winter form, capped by a Group 1 win at Doomben, was the best in this field, and his first-up Memsie effort from last was a standard warm-up for a horse that thrives second up. He has won over this track and distance before. The concern is a settling position behind a moderate tempo at a track that favours on-pacers, but with a small field there is less traffic and he has the class to overcome it.
Lindermann earns his place in the top three almost entirely on the map: he is the only natural leader, he draws the fence, and Caulfield 1800m races are dominated by horses on the speed. If he gets an uncontested lead and dictates, he is hard to run down.
The overlay in the race. He has Group 1 credentials from New Zealand, races in the right part of the field for Caulfield, and reunites with a jockey who knows him well.

Tobin Brothers Naturalism Stakes
With three leaders likely to generate genuine pressure and a light 55kg on a good surface where he has won 3 of 5, he profiles as the most likely winner.
He drops to 58.5kg with Zahra flying. Each-way to cover the barrier risk.
Zakouma is the quiet achiever of the race. His Andrew Ramsden win was a genuinely strong effort and his Heatherlie sixth was full of merit after being tightened at the start and held up in the straight. He carries just 54kg from a good gate, gets his preferred good surface and has William Pike in outstanding form.
Berkeley Square has a strong Caulfield 2000m history and his last-start sixth here was better than it reads, closing from last after a bad start under 62kg. He sheds 4kg and gets the fast tempo he needs. The wide gate matters less for a horse that will go back regardless.

Sportsbet Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes
Warnie produced the standout performance in this field last start, winning the Chautauqua Stakes in a strongly run race and beating two of today's rivals. He drops in weight, draws ideally in barrier 3 and maps to sit midfield with cover while three genuine leaders cut each other's throats.
Regal Award has been running at or near a winning standard in every start this year, including a tough Group 3 win at 1400m from a wide gate. He gets in with just 54kg, draws barrier 4 and has trialled brightly twice. The concern is that he will be forward in a race with three genuine leaders, but he has already shown he can handle pressure. Very hard to leave out of the top three.
She should get every chance from barrier 1. Include, but as a place play.
In the autumn he ran to a winning standard twice at Caulfield on good ground, including a narrow second in the Autumn Stakes over this exact course and distance. His Memsie effort on soft ground first-up with a heavy weight can be excused. He now drops to 53.5kg on a firm track in a race set to be run very fast, which suits his finishing style.

ive > (Bm84)
His Caulfield 1400m win in July was the strongest performance any runner in this race has produced, and his second last start came with 60kg in a race where he was ridden away from his usual pattern. A very fast tempo from three genuine leaders sets this up for a midfield horse with cover from barrier 5, and he drops to 55kg. The unknown is the Good track, but the class edge is real.
Porter is the proven BM84 performer in the race, having run second at this course and distance last start and improving second-up. His 1400m and Good-track records are the best in the field. The problem is the map: he is one of three horses who want to lead, drawn wide in 14, and Caulfield has been unkind to leaders who get taken on.
Fundamental Nature is an improving mare with three wins from six starts who was unlucky last start after a slow beginning and a held-up run in the straight. She gets the race shape she wants here with three leaders guaranteeing a genuine tempo, and barrier 2 lets her save ground before she unwinds. The first-time 1400m and the class rise are real questions, and her best form has not yet reached the level of the top pick.
He is drawn in barrier 3 to sit just behind three leaders who will burn each other out, which historically is the most successful position at Caulfield over 1400m. With 55.5kg on a Good surface, he only has to reproduce his winter Sydney form to be in the finish.
