Spex looks the one to beat on map and track form. She marks up to settle in the first few, which is exactly where you want to be at Echuca, and she clearly handles the track. The knock is the step past 1200m and a stable without a recent winner.

Ciaron Maher's stable is going well and she is second up. The problems are that all of her best work is on the synthetic and she has never placed on turf in four Good-track runs; she also maps midfield, an unfavourable spot at Echuca, and her rider is out of form.
He has placed four times from eight and is second up. But he is a get-back type who needs the race to unfold for him, has just been well beaten at Echuca on a wet track, and his trainer is yet to win a race from a sizable recent sample.
He closed hard for second at Mildura last start in first-time blinkers, and Patrick Payne's stable is in good order and knows how to get one ready at Echuca. He draws a good gate and stays this trip. The concerns are that he gets back in his races and gives away a start, and his rider is without a recent winner.

Hygain Edge Mdn Plate
The only runner here with a real body of form. He has twice finished close-up in country maidens, including a strong effort when leading on heavy going, and he maps perfectly: he should sit just off a hot tempo from gate six. Still a maiden, and his best runs have come on wet tracks, so Good 4 is a query, while the stable is in a cold patch.
Untried, though, and his trainer and rider are both struggling for winners, while the pace map has him settling midfield in a fast-run sprint.
She is well drawn in four and comes from a stable with a solid recent strike rate, and a tongue tie goes on first time. Her jump-out placings are only fair and she looks likely to get back, which is a worry in a speed-dominated sprint.
Raw and untried, but there is a strong intent signal with Brad Rawiller booked for the debut and the stable-jockey combination winning at a healthy rate. He won a recent jump out and placed in another, both over short trips. The knock is the map: from gate 12 he will be dragged back in a race where on-pace horses dominate, so he needs to be good.

O'Connors CIH Echuca Mdn Plate
Julep brings the strongest recent form, having led and been run down for second over 2000m last start. With the speed map showing little early pressure, she should control the tempo from the front or sit second. The switch to winkers signals intent. She has a soft-ground query and is unproven at the trip, but she gets the best map in an open maiden.
Thinking Positive is an improving mare who maps ideally from gate two in a race short on genuine speed, so she should be right in the leading division turning for home. Her Bendigo run was a sound effort after being caught three wide. She still has to prove herself at the trip and has not yet placed, but her pattern and draw make her the clear second pick.
He is a backmarker drawn wide in a race where the lone leader is likely to dictate a slow tempo — exactly the wrong setup for a swooper.
She is a progressive mare from a good stable who closed well over 2000m last start and looks suited by the longer trip. The obvious risk is that she concedes a slow tempo to the leader and needs luck from off the pace.

Good Year Autocare Echuca Moama Hcp (56)
Won his latest outing over 2000m on good ground and clearly excels at Echuca, where he has two wins from five including over this trip. Draws to get the run of the race in a contest lacking genuine speed and can either lead or take a sit. A slight rise in grade and a quick six-day back-up are the only knocks. The one to beat.
Has found a rich vein over this trip, twice finishing runner-up at 2050m, the latest when only a head away after being held up. Consistently runs to a competitive standard and maps to sit handy from gate five in a slowly run race. The knock is a poor winning strike rate and a jockey without a recent winner. Strong place claims.
Comes off a solid second in similar company and drops back from a stronger grade. The concern is his get-back style in a race that may be run at a muddling tempo, and he lumps top weight. Worth including for the placings.
Veteran campaigner who has been consistent around this distance, placing twice in his last three at 2050m, including a strong effort two starts back. Gets in with the lightest weight of 52kg and will appreciate the drop in grade. Drawn wide, but staying races here don't heavily penalise that.

Murphy's Turf & Landscaping Hcp (56)
The 1400m is clearly his go.
Savethebesttillast is a 1400m specialist who has been right in the finish at his past four starts, including a narrow second at Tatura and a closing fourth at this track. He has won twice on good ground and should get a lovely run just off the speed from gate six. The worry is that he does his best work late on a track where front-runners often control the race, and he does not win out of turn.
Crackerjack Hatch made an encouraging return with a fast-finishing second at Casterton, and her earlier maiden win at Geelong was a smart performance. She is prepared and ridden by a combination with a handy strike rate and looks suited settling in behind the speed from midfield. She has been placed at this trip without winning and her second-up runs have been ordinary, so she shapes as more of a place chance.
Second-up with a run under his belt, he can improve again and he handles good ground.

Mick Gleeson Hcp (56)
Echuca specialist with three wins from five starts here, all over this short course. Comes off the best run in this field — a fast-finishing second at Donald last week where he settled last and got within a length. Drops slightly in class, drawn well in two, and the genuine tempo ahead of him plays to his turn of foot. The one they all have to beat.
Won her last start leading throughout at Wangaratta, running right up to a winning standard, and has two placings from three at Echuca. Maps to be right on the speed in a race that should suit handy types. The query is the dry track — her wins have come on rain-affected or synthetic ground — but her form and map are good enough to be in the finish.
Should lead from gate six and gets a track that rewards on-pace runners. Placed twice in three starts at Echuca and is a reliable placegetter, having filled a minor spot 17 times. The knock is that he rarely wins — just one from 48 — and can be run down late, but he will give a good sight in front and is worth a place ticket.
Won't be far away early from barrier three and has a strong place habit — 11 seconds and seven thirds from 47 starts. Capable of a competitive run on good ground, as he showed with a couple of solid efforts over this trip earlier in the year.

Bet365 Bet Boost Hcp (56)
Consistent on-pacer who looks the one to control this from gate two. Two recent seconds at this level and he maps to lead or sit handy in a race without much pressure - the profile Echuca rewards. The knock is a modest winning record and a stable/jockey combination in a lean patch, so he's a narrow win call rather than a confident one.
She keeps finding the line but has just one win from nineteen, and she does her best work settling back, which is a hard way to win at Echuca.
Class runner from a strong yard who maps ideally just off the speed. His best form has come fresh, though, and he was plain when leading at Ballarat last time; second-up he is yet to win. The on-pace sit suits the track, so he's a place chance at best.
