Chicago Blues is the form horse. His last two starts were both run to a winning standard for this grade, culminating in a strong last-start win at Mornington despite racing wide. He draws the inside with speed to sit handy behind the two leaders on a track that strongly favours on-pace runners from inside gates. Top weight is a minor concern in a compressed weight scale.

Her distance record is outstanding and the inside gate helps. The concern is that her best form is on synthetic tracks and she races back in the field on a course that heavily favours on-pace runners. If the two leaders press each other she will be finishing over the top of them.
She won her maiden convincingly and was competitive at this level here last start, and the connections are the strongest in the race.
Mafee is the each-way value. His last start was a solid effort in similar grade under a big weight and he drops four kilograms today.

The Junction Mdn Plate
Bilk produced the best run in this field last start when leading over this track and distance with blinkers on for the first time and only being run down late. The gelding gets in light at 53kg, draws barrier 4 and maps to be on speed at a track where handy runners from inside gates win most sprints. The Clarken and MacGillivray stable pairs with Tala Hutchinson to strong effect and the drying surface should suit.
A firmer surface is a plus and the Stokes stable is potent at this venue.
Express Sonic arrives from Victoria for the Jason Warren stable with four placings from four jump outs at Caulfield Heath, Pakenham and Mornington. The stable rarely travels without purpose and Connor Murtagh is riding well. Barrier 1 is a genuine asset here, although the horse is expected to settle back and will need the race to be run to suit.
Atomic Time is a serial placegetter who has been beaten a nose at his last start and at Rockhampton in July, and his recent efforts have been close to winning standard. He draws barrier 2 and settles handy, which is exactly the profile that wins sprints at this track. A genuine each-way value proposition.

Sportsbet Jockey Watch (Bm78)
The form horse of the race on merit. He has won three straight, two of them here over this exact trip in strong times, and his last-start Open Handicap win came leading all the way. Today's slow-tempo map has him parked handy behind Jacks On Ice, which is the winning position at this track. The big weight rise to 61kg is the real query, but he won here with 60kg and has handled 62kg at Balaklava.
His two most recent Parks runs were excellent and he has already won here over this trip on Good ground from the tail. The problem is the map: one leader, a slow tempo likely, and he will be near the rear in a small field on a track that rarely rewards closers. Real winning chance, poor value, so a place-only play.
The map horse. Nothing else here wants to lead, and this tight circuit strongly favours whoever controls the speed. He won this exact race setup last start with 61kg and now has 5kg less on his back.
A mare whose form reads poorly on paper only because she has been thrown in against stakes-class horses for most of the year. Her Good-track record is strong and she has won at second-up before.

Sportsbet Green Tick Hcp (C2)
Codename is the form pick on Good ground. His two wins came on Good 4 at Mildura, one with 62kg, and the second of those was the strongest run any of these has produced. He is versatile enough to be on speed or midfield if the race is run slowly. The trainer's strike rate is the main worry, but the horse is honest and rarely far away.
But her two wins are both on the synthetic, she has never won on turf and this is her first start in a new state for a new stable.
Madam Jeanette gets the map and the weight to make this a genuine contest. Her Class 2 run last week on a Good track was her best effort since her first-up win, and she now draws barrier 3 with 54.5kg on a course where on-pace runners from inside gates hold the edge. She has won here over this trip before. A place chance more than a win chance, best used as a saver.
The concerns are real though: the widest gate, a back-of-field settling spot on a track that punishes closers, and a big class jump. The predicted fast tempo is what keeps her in the top three, as she has already shown she can run past beaten horses at this course.
Super Choice is the value runner because the race shape falls into his lap. He is the quickest beginner in a field with no natural leader, and at a track where on-pace runners dominate, an uncontested lead over 1000m is a big weapon. His Class 2 third at Morphettville last start showed he is up to this grade, and his only win was a front-running effort on Good ground. He has folded when pressured over further, but the shorter trip should help him hold on.

Fleurieu Milk Company (Bm78)
Guru Warrior's last-start fade is fully explained by 61kg on a soft track, ground he has never won on. Back on a drying surface he is a different horse, with five wins from nine on good going and a win at this grade over further at this track. He drops 2.5kg, maps to sit fourth behind two leaders, and Holder knows him well. Read the soft-track form through that lens and he is the most likely winner rather than a horse in decline.
Giggenbach brings the strongest recent form line in the race, having run to a winning standard at Sandown twice before a sound third here last start. She gets down to 52kg from an inside gate and is racing consistently.
The doubt is the surface. Her record on soft ground is exceptional, but on good going she has just one win from eight, and the track is expected to firm to Good 4 by race time. She is a clear top-three chance but not the pick.
Oxford Blue is a horse whose best form comes second-up, and this is that run. His autumn placings behind quality horses at Oakbank and Morphettville on good ground show he can run to a winning level at this grade, and his first-up mile effort was a solid platform. He draws to lead on a track where leaders and on-pace runners dominate, with only Capulet likely to press.

His Tatura win was run at a level that would stack up in this grade, and it capped four progressively better efforts under a big weight. He drops to 57.5kg, draws barrier 3, and has been ridden closer to the speed recently, which is exactly what Morphettville Parks demands over 1400m.
The class relief is genuine after he chased home better horses in the Port Adelaide Guineas and a Bm70, and his two wins have both come on Good tracks, one of them here. The concern is the four-and-a-half-month gap since his last race start and a 1400m trip that is short of his best form.
Ironbar earns third spot on the strength of his last-start second here over 1400m in a Hcp 68, a race stronger than today's. He draws barrier 1 and has a solid record at the distance. The problem is his racing pattern. He settles near the tail and Morphettville Parks rarely rewards that from a moderate tempo, and his Good-track record is poor. Place chance only if the race is run to suit.
He is clearly the quickest beginner in the field and should control the race from barrier 5 on a track where leaders have been winning at a strong clip. The 1400m trip and class rise are real queries, which is why he is an each-way play rather than a top selection.

Flying Brant has raced in far better company than this, running third in a Group 3 over 2000m on Good ground and second in a BM76 mile in the autumn. His first-up run over 1300m was too short and can be forgiven. Today he drops back to a suitable trip on a drying track, sits on the speed behind a lone leader in what should be a slowly run race, and that is the winning position here.
Somewhere Soon has the best class form in the race after Flying Brant, having won a Hcp 66 at Morphettville and run near winning form in another over 2000m on Good ground. Her distance and Good-track records are strong and Holder knows her well. The problem is the map: she settled last first up and this race looks slowly run with a lone leader and a short straight.
Winning All Round is an improving four-year-old who has placed at five of his six starts and ran to a winning standard when breaking his maiden last month. He then carried 61kg to a close second in Heavy ground. The class rise is steep, but the inside draw and on-pace style put him exactly where winners come from at this track in a race that looks slowly run, and he drops to 56kg.

Croser Hcp (64)
Her last-start third at this track and distance range was the standout run in the field and her debut win was of similar quality. She is a lightly raced filly getting weight relief against older mares and has the gate speed to land closer than the map suggests.
The likely leader on a track and in a race that both favour front-runners. When she gets her own way in front she can run a strong race, as her all-the-way win at Eagle Farm showed. The concerns are the top weight, two heavy losses before the break and a poor fresh record.
The problem is the map: she gets back from a wide gate on a track that heavily favours on-pace runners and the tempo does not look strong.
A consistent on-pace mare who maps to sit in the perfect spot behind the leader from an inside gate. Her last-start third at Murray Bridge was sound and she has a strong record on Good ground with a jockey who has won two from three on her.

Thomas Farms (Bm72)
Nicish has been running to a winning standard every start through this preparation, chasing home a stronger field last time and winning here on a heavy track before that. She has a superb record at this track, draws inside, and maps to sit just behind the speed in a race with only moderate pressure. The concern is her habit of running second and a slightly lesser record on firmer ground, but nothing else in the field brings this level of consistency.
The most talented horse in the race on her best form, having won here over the trip in this grade and placed at Guineas level. She drops sharply in class after a plain first-up run over an unsuitable 1200m where she was shuffled back mid-race. Jason Holder has a strong record on her and the inside gate lets him ride closer. The worry is her back-marking pattern on a track that favours on-pace runners, and a light second-up record. Genuine winning chance but safer as a place play.
A good-track specialist whose two recent failures both came on soft going, one of them officially attributed to the surface. With the track drying to Good 4 he returns to the conditions that produced all three of his wins, including one here in this grade. He races on the speed, which is the winning pattern at Morphettville Parks. The wide gate and untested 1400m are real doubts, and his rider has a poor record here. Each-way appeal if he can slot in without cost from the draw.
He is the quickest beginner here and should lead or sit outside the leader, which is exactly where winners come from at this track.
