He drops to 53.5kg against a top weight giving him 6kg, and a fast-run race lets him sit midfield and pounce under Damian Lane.

Manhari Imperatriz Sprint
The class runner in the field. Spywire led the Schillaci Stakes before giving way late to Group 1 sprinters, and that run is the strongest recent form line here. He drops sharply in grade to an Open handicap but inherits the 59.5kg top weight, which is the main query over a short 1000m. Blake Shinn is in form, barrier 1 offers a slight edge on the straight, and a fast tempo lets him sit off the speed.
An exciting improver from South Australia who has won three of four, all over this trip, and has run each win to a standard that would be competitive here. He carried 60kg to win first up and drops 7kg today, a significant change over 1000m.
A veteran whose raw results undersell him. He has the gate speed to take a position from barrier 4 and Ethan Brown has already won on him.

HKJC World Pool Red Anchor Stakes
Buggsy is the most exposed horse at this level and his form reads best when measured against today's class. His Listed third over this trip and his Poseidon fourth on this straight were both runs of a near-winning standard, and the Group 2 flop on a bog track is easily excused.
He deserves respect as a place chance.
His Caulfield Blue Sapphire second behind a well-handled winner was the best piece of recent Group 3 form in the race, and his Rosehill win at this trip was a winning-standard effort. He races on the speed and sits exactly where Flemington straight sprint winners come from. The seven-day backup is the main query, but the stable has him fit and the compressed weights help.
Peyton brings the strongest recent Group form in the field, chasing home smart types in the Roman Consul after being slowly away. The concern is that he settles back and the race shape may not be run to suit, but he has the engine to be in the finish.
If Shinn can get him across to lead at an even tempo on the straight, the others have to come and get him.

Drummond Golf Vase
He has produced winning-standard runs at all three starts and was desperately unlucky at Caulfield last time, with Written Empire and Hierarchy both behind him in that race. The slow tempo and barrier 3 let him settle handy with cover, the ideal position in this field of inexperienced three-year-olds. The class rise and unknown at 2040m are the only concerns but every rival carries similar question marks. Clear top pick.
Written Empire has the ideal profile for how this race should be run. He will land in the first four from barrier 1 behind a weak leader, giving him first run on the closers in a race where tempo should be only moderate. His Caulfield third behind True Rebel was sound after doing work on the pace. Strong place chance and live winner.
Joely brings the strongest black-type form, having been placed in a Group 2 at this track three weeks ago and winning her maiden impressively. The filly allowance is a real edge in a tight weight scale and Craig Williams is a plus at Flemington. The concern is the map. She will settle near the rear and the pace looks slow, so she needs the leaders to tire or the race to be run more genuinely than expected.
Hierarchy is the overlay in the race. He finished behind True Rebel and Written Empire at Caulfield but did so from a hopeless position on the rail, running home well once clear. As a Dubawi colt out of Group 1 winner Colette, the stretch to 2040m should bring him into his own. Each-way value.

Symal Crockett Stakes
Her Reisling Stakes win over this trip is the best form in the race, and her two recent defeats both came with clear excuses, including a strong finish from last at Caulfield in a race that favoured those on speed. The weight and a get-back style under a moderate tempo are real concerns, but the drop to Listed company against lightly-raced fillies is significant and James McDonald stays aboard.
Angels Fury is the obvious improver. She was beaten only when lame, and her Caulfield handicap win doing it tough three wide was a genuinely good performance for her age. The Maher stable has her ready with two jump-out wins, she draws low and will race in the first few in a race where the on-pace horses should get their chance. The question is whether her wet-track form transfers to firm ground at Listed level, which is why she sits behind Chayan on class, but she is a clear second pick and the one most likely to upset.
Aroused could be anything after a dominant debut win at Ballarat where she travelled sweetly outside the leader and ran a time that would be competitive here. She has the speed to find the same position again, and with only one true leader in the race she should get an economical run.
Lady Catalina is the overlooked runner. She has been racing honestly in Group 3 company against better fillies, including a good fifth at Flemington in September, and she drops to Listed grade with the lowest weight. The pace map suits her perfectly: she will sit in the first three with cover behind the lone leader in a moderately run race.

Cirka McEwen Stakes
His Schillaci win two weeks ago was the standout run in this field and he has consistently run faster than any rival at Group level, including a William Reid Stakes win on a good track. With Mazu likely to lead he can sit second and pounce, and the moderate tempo suits him rather than the swoopers.
She is the second-most likely winner on consistency and class drop. She gets back, the tempo looks moderate with only Mazu wanting to lead, and she has repeatedly been beaten by better finishers.
Smooth Chino was a whisker from winning the Gilgai here last start after covering ground on a heavy track, and his overall record of seven wins from 12 starts is the best strike rate in the race. He maps nicely just behind Jigsaw and Mazu from barrier 3, and a Good 4 surface suits him better than the bog he ran on last time.
Rey Magnerio is the forgotten horse. His Schillaci run was far better than the finishing position suggests after being held up approaching the 200m, and he was a close second in The Quokka before that. Flemington is his best track with two wins and four placings from seven starts here, and he lifts second up.

Kia Ora Stud Mile
Surfin' Bird is unbeaten in four starts at 1600m and her Ladies' Day Vase win was comfortably the strongest recent performance in this field. The speed map has her leading at a moderate tempo at Flemington, where she can dictate and kick in the long straight. The main risk is the step to open Group 2 company against older geldings, but none of them have produced a comparable recent run.
Feroce is a genuine on-pace runner whose Sir Rupert Clarke effort was close to the standard needed here, and his Toorak flop came from a hopeless barrier wide on the track. He draws wide again, but Flemington's long straight and true rail reduce the penalty.
Sun God has been running honest races in Group 1 company this campaign without any luck, and his Toorak effort was a sound run ruined when the winner barged through and stopped his momentum. He has a strong record at the mile, handles Good ground and should settle fourth or fifth from a good barrier, close enough to pounce if the pace steadies.
His Toorak third was a genuine Group 1 effort from a tough spot, and his Flemington Listed win over 1400m was run to a winning standard. He has won at track and distance, draws inside and will be handy on a lone-leader map.
She gets back and relies on luck, and the moderate tempo is against her, but the Flemington straight has already proven her ally and barrier 1 lets her save every yard.

Ladbrokes Moonee Valley Gold Cup
Pinhole is the form horse. The moderate tempo and his get-back style are the concerns, but the long Flemington straight suits him and he showed at Caulfield he can overcome a slow early position. James McDonald riding for Chris Waller is a potent combination.
He is a lightly raced four-year-old with five wins from eight starts, and his Metropolitan second behind Juja Kibo was full of merit given he met interference twice in the straight. He now gets 2.5kg weight relief from that rival and gets back onto good ground where he is four from five. The wide barrier is the main worry.
Juja Kibo won The Metropolitan last start and had Aethelwulf behind him, but the terms shift today. He concedes a further 2.5kg to that horse, draws the extreme outside and returns to good ground where his record of one win from eleven is a genuine query. His Kingston Town second was a strong run on good ground, so he is far from a wet-tracker only, and his handy racing style suits the expected tempo.
Future History is the only runner with a leading record in a race where the speed map predicts a moderate tempo. He should cross from the wide gate and dictate without pressure, and that is often the recipe for a bold showing from a tough old stayer at Flemington. His Herbert Power fourth behind Pinhole was a genuine effort and he has won at this track and distance before.

Ladbrokes Cox Plate
Assessed on form alone, Warwoven is the most likely winner. With 49.5kg and a slow tempo likely, he should be in the right spot at the right time.
His Queen Elizabeth win was elite and his flawless third-up record points to him peaking today, while his handy racing pattern is a plus in a slow race.
His Underwood Stakes win was the standout performance by any of the older runners this spring and he has a Group 1 win over 2000m to his name. He showed last start that he can race closer when needed, which matters in a race expected to be run at a slow tempo.
Blind Raise is the value runner. He was softened up in front in the Caulfield Guineas and still held second clear of the rest, and his Prelude win was a top-class performance. In a race that lacks a committed leader beyond Light Infantry Man, he can take a soft sit on the pace with only 49.5kg, and his staying pedigree suggests the trip will suit.

Powerflo Solutions Tesio Stakes
Shockletz is the class runner on form. She won the Archer Stakes at Flemington over 2500m with a performance that ranks as the best in this field, then ran on well for sixth in the Herbert Power behind genuine Caulfield Cup horses. Back to a mares-only Group 3 at a track where she has won three of eight, with a jockey who knows her well, she is the horse to beat. The weight and a possible muddling tempo are the risks, but the long Flemington straight gives her time to wind up.
Her last-start third at Randwick was a powerful finishing effort, and her Oaks placings show she handles the trip. She settles closer than the other swoopers, which helps if the pace is slow.
Too Darn Discreet is the proven stayer of the top group, with three wins from three starts at 2000m including a strong Flemington win in April. Her mile runs this preparation have been sound and the step up in trip is what she wants. The 60kg top weight and her habit of getting back are real concerns if the pace is slow, but the Flemington straight suits her finishing style. A genuine place chance who could win if the leaders overdo it.
Ocean Bay is the value runner. She has won four of her last five, including a strong win over 2025m at Cranbourne last start beating Sun Gift, and she will be handy in a race that looks slowly run.
