Albirex produced the best run in this field at his only start, sitting back in fifth, getting held up on the turn and still running down Malastar to win by close to a length. The four-kilogram weight swing against him is real, but he was the superior finisher two weeks ago and Lucy Fiore is riding in excellent form.

Malastar led all the way on debut and fought on well when Albirex ran her down, and she meets that horse two kilograms better off with the inside draw and no genuine rival for the lead. Those factors make her a strong winning chance, but she still has to reverse form with a horse that finished over the top of her when held up, and the jockey booking is a concern.
Swift Divide is the pick of the debutants. Her 850m trial was strong, finishing a nose behind Brave Matador, and she comes from the most reliable Ascot stable in the field. First starters need to beat two horses that have already run to a winning standard, so she is a place proposition rather than a win play, but she looks the one most capable of upsetting the top two.
Defend The Nation was slowly away on debut, raced near the back and laid in up the straight, yet still made good late ground into fourth behind Albirex and Malastar. His closing effort was clearly the strongest of the beaten runners and the run reached a placing standard. From barrier two with a clean start he should settle midfield and be running on hard late.

TABtouch - Westspeed Platinum Series Heat 1 (Rs0ly)
So Si God has placed at nine of her ten starts, has two wins from five at the trip and has run to a winning standard at this class in each of her last three outings, including a narrow second here last start when she led. She can lead or sit handy, which matters at Ascot where on-pace runners dominate.
Ripper Farooq produced the best run in this field last start when beaten a nose at Ascot carrying 59kg, and he drops to 56kg today from a lovely draw. He will sit just behind the speed, which is where Ascot sprints are won.
My Danny Boy is the best-mapped runner in the field. He draws barrier 3, likes to sit close to the speed, and the expected leader is a first-up seven-year-old with a poor fresh record. He finished off well at Bunbury last start after losing ground at the jump and won second up last preparation. The form is maiden and country level, so his class is the question, but the race shape gives him every chance to run a place.
Fantaxtic is the overlay. Last start he raced three wide the whole way from a wide gate here and faded, but was still close to the winner.

Barrier 9 is a worry, but his gate speed should get him to the front or close to it, and handy runners dominate here.
Better suited on Good ground than the Soft tracks of her recent runs and wins at the distance at a good rate. Last start was disappointing in the wet, so she needs to bounce back.
A tough, consistent sprinter drawn well who should settle just behind the speed and finish on strongly. Her recent runs have been solid against similar grades and the light weight helps. Has not won at Ascot in 11 tries, which keeps her below the top pick, but she is a clear place chance and a genuine winning chance.
Has won at this track and distance on Good ground and gets a very light weight with the benefit of a 3kg claim. Barrier 3 suits and she has run solidly in every start at this class.

Brent Maas (Rs1mw)
The class runner of the field. He produced the standout performance of any horse here when he came from last and swept past them over the mile at this track a fortnight ago, and he meets a similar field again. The knocks are that he steps to 1800m for the first time, goes up in the weights and has drawn out, so he will have to do it the hard way once more. Still the one to beat.
Sneaks in on the minimum from the inside alley and has the early dash to hold a forward spot, which is exactly where you want to be at Ascot over this trip. She was honest when fourth behind Streamlined after covering ground, and now meets him much better at the weights. She does not win out of turn, but her course-and-distance record says she is a genuine top-three horse.
The most reliable mare in the race, placed in three of every four starts and never out of a place at Ascot or at this distance. She hit the line strongly for third behind Streamlined last time after being held up at a vital stage. The concern is the map — she concedes a start in a race, and at a track where the handy runners get the lion's share of the winners.
Badly overpriced. He gets the perfect Ascot set-up from barrier one with enough speed to hold a spot in the first three, which is exactly where these staying races are won. He is a five-time winner at this circuit and his last two runs came from wide gates and can be forgiven.

MC Equine Surfaces (Rs0ly)
Rogue Ruler has run to a winning standard in each of his last three starts against better three-year-olds, kept coming at Ascot last week over 1400m and now meets older horses in a restricted grade with 54kg from barrier 2. The step to a mile is the main unknown, but his racing pattern (settling fourth with cover) is exactly what wins here.
Javelin Strike has won his last two, including a gritty Ascot win over 1400m after racing three wide without cover. The question is the mile, where his only recent attempt saw him fade, though he was knocked about early that day. Fiore stays on and the stable has a strong strike rate with her. Drawn to be handy from barrier 5.
Decoration's Northam win carrying 60kg was outstanding, but he followed it with a flat third at Kalgoorlie where he was blown away by the winner after sitting outside the leader. He has never won at Ascot from nine visits and again lumps top weight. Chris Parnham is a plus and the horse will be handy from barrier 7, which is where races are won here.
His last two mile runs, at Ascot in a stronger grade and at Pinjarra, were both to a winning standard, and he looked a genuine chance on the turn at Ascot a fortnight ago before tiring on soft ground. Back on a good track, dropping in class and drawn 3 to sit just behind the speed, he gets his chance. Each-way.

The map clearly favours this horse. He is the only proven early-speed runner in a field likely to dawdle, and he draws well with a light weight. His recent form is the best in the field and he was only just beaten at 1400m. The 2200m trip is the question, but a slow tempo should make it easier to get home.
Abissi's last-start win here was dominant and his form line is the strongest in the race. The concern is the map: a slow tempo and a back-field position are exactly what Ascot punishes. If the pace lifts, or Parnham gets him closer, he is a major threat.
All Grunt ran a gallant second over 2200m last start and drops in class here, which makes him a competitive chance despite top weight. He has a very good partnership with his jockey. He is not an ideal tempo fit, but he should be handy enough from barrier 4 and has proven he can quicken.
She should settle handy in a race with a slow tempo, which is the profile Ascot rewards. The step to 2200m is a question, but her record at the track and distance is decent.

Guinness (Bm78+)
The best form runner in the race on how he has run to the clock and how he finishes. A genuine pace on and four front-runners gives the backmarker the dream setup.
Her best runs at this track and distance rate with anything in this race and she has won over this trip at Ascot. The pace on should suit her closing style.
The step up to metro company and the fast pace are real questions, but he has genuine ability and can run a place. He is not a certain winner at this level.
A proven Ascot sprinter who won three of her last four races on this track before the break. First-up fitness is the question, but trials have been fine, making her a sound each-way chance.

She is first-up from a long break, but her first-up record is strong and the trials show she is fit. The rider knows her.
She settles near the tail, and with only a moderate pace on she has to make up a lot of ground on a drawn-wide-ish field.
A young, improving colt who has never run worse than second and who finishes well. Back from a break with a recent barrier trial, he should settle in a handy spot behind the leader and finish strongly. The step up to 1200m is the question, but his sire and running style suggest he will handle it.
A rising mare whose last run was among the best in this field, and who has a great record with her rider. A good each-way chance if the pace lifts.

Liquor Barons - Belgravia Stakes
He is the only runner with a Group win and his Ascot performances last autumn were far superior to anything the rest have produced.
Boy Crush was tucked away behind the speed in the Max Simmonds, had to barge into clear running and was only narrowly beaten. He draws perfectly to repeat that ride pattern from barrier 4 on a track that rewards handy inside runners, and he meets the winner on better terms.
Big Red Zoom has done nothing wrong, winning a Bunbury maiden impressively and then holding off the swoopers in the Max Simmonds Listed. He is the type still on the rise and his form is strong enough to be a top-three hope. The wide alley is the main obstacle because it will cost him position or ground, and that keeps him behind the better-drawn Boy Crush despite beating him last time.
He's A Machino gave everything from a wide run in the Max Simmonds and kept coming when he could not accelerate. With a kinder draw he maps to sit third in the run on a track where on-pace runners hold a significant edge.

Johnny Fox's (Bm72+)
The form horse of the race. He came from last to collar Famous Dain by a neck over this trip at Ascot a fortnight ago and was the strongest through the line. A lightly raced four-year-old with three wins from five who gets in on the minimum weight with the state's leading rider and a yard that excels here. His only query is the swooping style on a circuit that favours handy horses, but he has already done exactly that here.
The class runner of the field, a Listed winner and Classic placegetter dropping into a midweek-standard handicap. He has the best raw ability here and an outstanding strike rate at Ascot, and his 1400m run in the autumn behind stakes horses was the equal of anything in this race. The knock is the map: he will be near last from gate eleven in a race where the track strongly favours handy runners.
An honest, race-fit six-year-old who won at this class and distance last time out, settling handy and quickening best late. That is exactly the profile that succeeds here, and the draw gives him every chance to sit third or fourth with cover.
