Markwell Topsort is the form runner. He won over this track and trip on the same soft going 13 days ago, settling handy and fighting on strongly. He is race-fit and second-up, draws well in three and maps to be right on the pace, exactly where this track rewards runners. The knocks are the jump from maiden grade and a jockey without a recent winner, but his current form and map are the strongest in the race.

Melbourne Cup @ Port City Bowling Club Country Boosted Hcp (C1)
She is lightly raced with upside and maps to be handy.
Putinacall won his maiden impressively from well back and was placed against sharper two-year-olds, giving him a genuine turn of foot. He maps to settle midfield, which can be the right spot given the likely even tempo.
He'sthechief is the value runner.

Summer Barefoot Bowls @ Port City Bowling Club Mdn Plate
Lightly raced three-year-old from a leading Hunter yard who showed speed to lead and win a recent trial on soft ground. His only race start is a forgive run on a heavy track where he was caught wide throughout and pulled up poorly.
Honest on-pace mare who has finished close-up over 1100m at her last two outings and now drops to the sprint trip. She is the likely leader, and the Port Macquarie stats strongly favour horses on the speed at 1000m. The main query is that she has been run down when leading and is unproven on soft going, but she rates a solid each-way chance.
The model of consistency — placed six times from eight starts and well suited to the 1000m trip. She sat handy to run a close second two starts back and handles soft ground. The wide draw is the concern, but she maps to settle in the ideal on-pace-to-midfield position that has won most races here. Strong place claims.
On debut she settled back but produced a sharp move to be fourth at Scone, beaten three lengths — a promising effort. With two trials under the belt she should be fitter and maps to sit just off them from gate six, the ideal spot on this track. Lightweight and clearly improving.

Non Thinkers Sports Bar @ Port City Bowling Club Country Boosted Mdn Hcp
The clear class runner of this maiden. Placed third against this sort of company before a spell and has closed late for two tidy fourths since, hitting the line well each time. The fast early tempo from several leaders should suit his finishing style perfectly. The knock is his slow starts, which leave him with ground to make at a track where leaders hold sway. Still the one to beat.
The most dependable recent profile in the race. Handles soft going better than most of this lot, with minor placings on wet tracks. He settles in the first half and should be well positioned behind the speed. The wide gate is the obvious concern and the main reason he isn't top pick.
Second-up and back to a distance where he's placed twice. He has placed on rain-affected ground and strips fitter for his first-up run. Doesn't have the turn of foot to dominate but is a solid each-way hope in an open maiden.
He gets in with a feather weight thanks to the claim and his rider has a strong record here.

Weddings & Celebrations @ Port City Bowling Club Hcp (C3)
A genuine front-runner who should lead and control a moderate tempo, and this circuit strongly rewards those on the speed early. He was competitive out of stronger provincial grade last preparation.
Sharply down in class after mixing it with quality stayers, including a strong placing in open company on a soft track where he ran to a winning standard. Goes well fresh and handles give in the ground, and his rider has a fine record on him. Held back by a long break and a big drop back in trip.
The class runner of the field, placed at his last three in stronger Highway company and a track-and-distance winner. Maps to settle handy from a good gate and the stable/jockey combination is going well.
The quickest recent run in the field and a last-start winner who has done little wrong.

Oaks Day @ Port City Bowling Club (Bm58)
She won here over this trip on a soft track, then led and held on for a strong second at Port Macquarie last start. She draws to settle right up on the speed, which is exactly where you want to be at this track on a rain-affected surface, and her stable is firing. Concern is she can pull hard, but back to 1200m she should control her own tempo.
All Too Sneaky looks the value of the race. She maps to settle handy, which suits a track that favours on-speed runners.
Cheating Lilibet is an improving mare who produced a big run for second at Armidale last start, racing on the speed throughout. That style is the place to be at Port Macquarie on a soft track, and she is still lightly raced enough to keep improving.
She led and boxed on honestly for third on a soft track at Taree, and Port Macquarie is a track where front-runners who control the tempo win far more than their share. From barrier 6 she can dictate.

Beachfront Bar & Grill @ Port City Bowling Club (Bm58)
Under Twenty Two won over this course and distance last start, racing wide without cover and still proving too strong, and he lines up second-up with a sound record in that scenario. He has won twice on soft ground and beat several of today's rivals in the same race, so he shapes as the one to beat. The only knocks are the extra weight and a get-back style, but if he repeats his latest run he wins.
Aye Aye Skipper does his best work on the speed, which is precisely where you want to be at this track, and he finished a close third over this course and distance last start after leading. He is a reliable place-getter with genuine soft-track form and maps to sit handy behind the likely leader.
Bjorn Ironside has been closing strongly, running a good third here last start and finishing close-up in stronger company earlier. He is a distance specialist with a solid soft-track record and drops in grade today.
Progressive three-year-old with just four runs who is plainly on the up. He won his maiden on a soft surface and then charged home to be beaten a whisker in a stronger race at Coffs Harbour, running to a winning standard. With a hot tempo predicted, his run-on style should be perfectly suited, and the soft going is a plus.
The form assessor respects the ability and the stable, but he leaps straight from maiden grade into a competitive, high-volatility BM58, gives away experience and is untried at the trip.
A three-year-old stepping up in grade after two excellent runs — a maiden win at Dubbo and a gutsy second at Armidale where he led and was collared late. He has shown the strongest recent form of anyone here.
Ken'ker should find the front uncontested and control a moderate tempo, which is a major plus at a track that rewards on-speed runners.

The form pick. Farraige loves this track and trip, with two wins and three placings from five starts here and a win plus minors over this distance. He drops a long way in class after mixing it in stronger company and his recent placings have been full of merit. He settles just off the pace and runs on strongly on the wet ground. A modest overall win strike rate is the only knock.
She has won two of four on soft ground and comes off sound placings at Tamworth and Muswellbrook, with a good jockey-trainer record. The concerns are the map and the trip: she gets back in the field, is yet to race beyond a mile and a quarter, and this course rarely rewards backmarkers. Respect her, but she is short enough.
A wet-track specialist who has done the vast majority of her racing on soft ground, so today's surface suits. She drops in class after contesting stronger races and draws the inside gate, which helps over this trip. She settles midfield and is a reliable enough placegetter. The knock is that she is an eight-year-old with only three wins and her recent form is plain.
He won two starts back and his on-pace style suits Port Macquarie, where those up on the speed have a clear edge. He has form on wet tracks, including a placing here on heavy ground.
