Malastar has done everything asked in two trials, winning both by lengths and running times no rival in this field has approached, including a longer 850m hit-out that points to a proper fitness base. She beat All That Class and the trial form around Ochre and Turning Point reads well. The only real queries are the wider draw and the soft surface, but her natural speed should allow her to cross and control.

She chased Malastar home in their 850m trial and was clearly the best of the rest in that heat, which gives her a fitness edge over the runners who have only trialled over 400m. The light weight and inside draw are strong positives for an Ascot sprint on soft ground.
Sprint For Glory brings a tidy trial win and the perfect draw for an Ascot sprint, where inside barriers and on-pace runners enjoy a strong edge. The booking of a leading rider with an excellent record at this course is a strong signal that the stable expects a competitive debut, and that stable has been in sharp form. The trial margin was narrow and he has only had a short hit-out, so Malastar looks superior, but he maps to be in the first few and is a genuine place chance with win upside.

Quayclean (Bm66+)
He maps better than the other closers and the stable is strong at Ascot.
She is the proven winner in the field, having beaten Starwalker, Rommeo and Snazzler at this level at her last two starts over 2100m and 2200m. The one time she was beaten by Abissi and Dark Looks she was lugging 60kg, and the weight swing today brings her right back into it.
The map is his friend. With Snazzler likely to lead and the pace slow, Starwalker should be the one sitting third and first to go for home up the Ascot rise, which is exactly where soft-track winners here come from. His last two runs put him within striking distance of the main contenders and he has a wet-track and distance record that holds up.
A horses-for-courses style play on the map. Snazzler is the only natural leader here and the tempo is set to be slow, a scenario that has produced a quarter of soft-track winners at Ascot. His wet record is the best in the race and he has run competitively when he has been allowed to control a race.

TABtouch - Westspeed Platinum (Rs0ly)
Fantaxtic has produced the two best runs in this field at this exact grade, winning over 1200m on Soft 5 and then being beaten a nose over 1000m last start, finishing ahead of Ripper Farooq that day. The wide draw at Ascot is the obvious knock, but he has enough early speed to slide across and sit one off the two leaders in a moderately run race.
Ripper Farooq has the perfect Ascot sprint profile: inside gate, the sharpest early speed in the race and a proven soft-track win at this grade when allowed to roll along in front. He finished just behind Fantaxtic last start after settling further back than usual.
Espresso Time has upside: a lightly raced four-year-old with two wins from seven starts, drawn barrier 1 with the speed to sit right behind the leader at a track that rewards that position. The reservation is wet form, as he weakened on Soft 5 last start after going hard early.
Guarantor is the wet-track horse in this race, with five placings or wins from six soft starts including a Soft 5 win over 1000m last month. His last-start Bunbury flop came on good ground under 59kg and can be forgiven. He drops weight, returns to the soft going he loves and maps to sit in the first three from barrier 7.

Choices By Dallimores (Rs0ly)
She has been placed at eight of nine starts, won at this level last start and ran to a winning standard in both Soft 5 runs at Belmont. Her ability to lead or settle back means the three-leader map does not compromise her.
A progressive gelding whose Ascot win over 1500m in March and his last-start Northam victory under 60kg both read as winning-standard runs. He maps to race handy, which suits the soft Ascot profile, and the drop in weight helps. The wide draw, the class rise and the lack of soft-track racing are the risks, though his wet trials were encouraging.
An honest galloper whose wet-track record is the best in the field, placed at every soft start. His first-up third at Belmont was a strong run for a horse who improves second-up.
His last two 1400m runs at Bunbury and Northam were as good as anything in this field, and the expected fast tempo gives his late finish the best chance to be effective. Taken each-way as the value play with clear place claims if the leaders fold.

Afgri Equipment (Bm78+)
Six Shooter produced the best recent performance in this field when he ran down Pond Master at Belmont on a soft track three weeks ago, and he meets that rival on better terms today. He is a lightly raced winner of six from fourteen who races on the speed, which is exactly the profile that wins on a soft Ascot track where leaders and handy runners hold a sharp edge. The class rise is the query, but his last two wins were to a winning standard for this grade.
However he resumes over 1400m, a trip he has never attempted, when all his best form is over much further, and he will be ridden quietly on a soft track where backmarkers struggle badly.
Multinational bounced back to his best at Kalgoorlie, leading throughout from barrier 14 and only being run down in the final stride by a smart winner. Today he draws the inside gate and should find the front on a soft Ascot track that heavily favours leaders. He has six 1400m wins and handles wet ground well, and he drops back from Stakes company.
He drops back to a level where he has won before, at a track and distance he knows well.

Liquor Barons (Bm72+)
She has won three of four over the Ascot 1000m, and her Soft 5 win here in April was the best run anyone in this field has put up. She handles wet ground, drops in class, and gets back to her ideal trip with a rider who knows her.
Bassett Hound is the most talented horse in the race on raw ability and has done nothing wrong, winning three on end on soft ground with a finish that would win most races at this level. The concern is the map: he will settle near last at a track where swoopers rarely get there over 1000m, and he is rising sharply in class.
She has the draw and the weight to be competitive, and her fresh record suggests she holds her form second up. But she is rising in grade, has yet to win on a soft track, and is likely to settle back in a race shaped for on-pace runners at Ascot.
Kings Court is the obvious map horse. From barrier 1 he should lead a race at a track where leaders win a quarter of soft sprints and on-pace runners are strongly favoured. He has won four of eight over the Ascot 1000m, including on a Soft 5, and his rider is four from four on him. Each-way.

Drummond Golf (Rs1mw)
Back To Bondi is the form horse. He has already won over 1600m at Ascot and has four wins from eleven starts. The wide draw is the concern, but the long run to the first turn at the Ascot mile softens it, and his early speed should let him cross into a handy spot.
Pure Mac has every chance to run them off their legs. He is the only natural leader in the race, draws barrier 3, and drops to 56kg after the claim. His last three runs on soft tracks have all been close to a winning standard, including a second to Back To Bondi at this level last start where he meets that horse better off at the weights. The only knock is a winless record at Ascot, but he has never had a map this favourable here.
His last two runs were good without being the best in this field, he has never raced at a mile, and he was beaten at Ascot over 1500m earlier in the year. From barrier 12 in a race likely to be run at a slow tempo, he will settle further back than ideal on a track where midfield and backmarkers struggle on soft ground.
He has won three of four starts on soft or heavy ground, draws barrier 4 and is the quickest beginner here, so he should park behind Pure Mac in a race likely to be run slowly. Each of his last four runs has been near a winning standard, and he was only beaten four lengths in a stronger handicap over this trip at Pinjarra.

Swan Draught (Bm66+)
Streak Of God is the form horse of the race. He drops back to the inside draw with an in-form rider and meets Snow God on better terms than when he beat him last start.
He drew wide, races back in the field, and Ascot on soft ground has been unkind to runners who need to come from behind. His last-start second looked better than the clock said, as the race was slowly run and he finished past beaten horses rather than running to a winning standard.
Snow God is the map horse. From barrier five he should be handy and in the first three on the turn, which is where the winners come from at Ascot on soft ground. He has placed in five of six wet-track starts and his last two efforts were sound without winning.
Platinum Shot is the clear overlay. She drops in class, draws the inside gate and will settle in the perfect pocket for the Ascot 1400m.

Unite Resourcing - Max Simmonds Stakes
She is unbeaten over 1000m at Ascot, won the Listed Supremacy Stakes here, and her only defeat was a close third in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate on soft ground beyond her best trip. She is the quickest beginner in this field and the Ascot soft-track stats heavily reward those settling in the first three.
The colt with the strongest class credentials, having beaten Aurum Belle on Soft 5 at Ascot in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate and then run second in the Sires' Produce. The expected speed battle between Aurum Belle and Dawn Dancer is the scenario he needs, and barrier 4 helps him land closer than his usual midfield spot. Top weight and the short Ascot straight temper the enthusiasm, so he is a strong each-way proposition rather than the win pick.
A genuine overlay. He leads or sits outside the leader and is drawn to do so, which is where the Ascot soft-sprint winners come from.
The genuine unknown in the race. His debut maiden win at Bunbury on soft ground was done in a time that stands up against the Listed horses here, and the trial since was encouraging. He will settle in the first five from a good gate on a track rewarding handy runners on soft going.

Yes Loans (Rs1mw)
She outclassed a Class 1 field over this course and distance last spring, then ran third in a Listed race against her own age, and is far superior on ability to anything here in a midweek-grade field. She handles soft going and trialled a winner last week. The knocks are a long break between races and her habit of settling back, which Ascot soft sprints rarely reward. Barrier 3 should let Parnham park midfield.
His three most recent runs have each been at or above a winning standard for this grade, culminating in a strong win under 60kg at Bunbury where he ran down the field from the back. From barrier 5 with his regular rider he should land midfield with cover. Twelve dollars is too big for the best recent form in the field.
Kraken Time has the wet form the race demands. He won this very race last spring on a Soft 5, running down the field from ninth, and his soft-track record of three wins from six is the best here. First up he was sound without threatening in a stronger Belmont race and should improve for it. The problem is a wide gate with 59.5kg on a track that punishes runners forced back from outside draws, and he has not won second-up before.
Rok 'n' Rom is the speculative value runner. She controlled a two-year-old race over this course and distance on a Soft 5 and won, which is exactly the profile that succeeds in Ascot soft sprints, where the horses in the first three at the turn win far more than their share. She is now a lightly raced three-year-old against older midweek-grade horses with 52.5kg. The wide gate means she will have to work to find the front, and her trial was only fair, but if she crosses she will be hard to run down.
