Coastal Boom brings clearly the strongest class lines into this maiden after contesting Group company. He has led and placed against much better horses on rain-affected ground and now drops sharply in grade. The moderate tempo should suit him sitting close to the speed, and the stable is going well. Last start was disappointing but he had excuses and is worth another chance.

Shotpoint debuted with a narrow second at Ipswich, then won a recent Gold Coast trial over this trip on soft ground. He gets in light with a claim and maps to settle midfield. The main query is his long break and limited race experience, but his form and trial point to a leading chance.
Palmanova drops sharply from Listed company and has the early speed to take up a forward position from barrier three. Her Warwick Farm second over 1000m on soft ground is a strong pointer for this, and she was placed at Doomben on a wet track. Last start was too bad to ignore, but a class drop and second-up improvement can bring her into the finish.
Went within a nose of winning here over this trip two starts back, leading and only being worn down by a wide closer. Last start at Eagle Farm he led in a genuinely run race and was beaten off late, so the run reads better than the margin. Gate 15 is awkward and he will have to work early, but there is no real speed battle in this race and a moderate tempo suits an on-pace type. Fitter third-up.
But she has had one start, has been off six months, and comes from a stable with just one winner from its last 20.
He debuted with a close second at Gatton despite bucking and racing greenly, and the experience should have done him good. He has an inside draw and a strong stable/jockey combination.

The clear form standout. The Grey One was a strong second first-up at the Gold Coast on Soft 7, running to a far better standard than anything else in this line-up. Light weight, a handy barrier and a jockey combination that wins regularly all help.
Worthy Stunnah has been placed in two of his last three race starts and gets the ideal draw to sit on the speed in a race with no obvious leader. Wet footing is the question mark.
Lawes Road was held up in the straight on debut and finished closer than the result suggests, so she is the type to improve with a clean run. A trainer with a strong local record and a favourable barrier add to the appeal. Soft ground is unproven but the pedigree gives no cause for concern.
Grandstander's last start was a huge effort, just failing over this trip on Soft 6 after meeting interference. A genuine each-way type if he gets a run through.

Carpet Call Mdn Hcp
A hardy, consistent maiden who ran a tenacious third on soft 7 last start and has been in the finish of nearly every race. He carries a light weight, is fit, and has a handy draw. He has never won, but he is a solid chance in a race lacking a standout.
Likely to cross to the front and control a slow tempo in a field with little speed. She ran second over this distance last start, and a soft lead can be hard to run down in a maiden. The untried soft ground and a tendency to fade after leading are the concerns.
Still lightly raced and improving, with a second over this track and distance on debut. Tony Gollan's stable does well here, and she should get a handy trip.

Pipe Dreams & Photo Finishes Jericho Cup - Heat (Bm70)
He ran a closing fourth in a stronger 2200m race last start and had a second over further before that. He drops in class, handles soft ground and shapes as a stayer, but top weight and the step to 3200m are the queries. A slow tempo could also leave him with too much to do, yet his class should carry him a long way.
She arrives off a convincing win over 2245m and drops to 54kg, which is a big plus at this trip. Barrier one helps, but she may settle worse than midfield and a slow pace would make it hard.
A genuine stayer who won well over 2443m two starts back before a plain run on heavy ground last week. The quick backup is a query, but his stamina and middle draw keep him in the finish.
He is not a frequent winner, but he stays and should be prominent from an inside draw in what may be a slowly run race. His fourth over 3120m at Grafton shows he handles a marathon trip, and he has been competitive on soft ground.

LJ Building Construction (Bm65)
Drops out of Open Handicap company after charging from ninth and just missing at Warwick, and that is the best form on offer here. He has won six times on rain-affected ground and twice at this track, and he bolted in at 1650 in this grade two runs back. The 2kg claim helps with top weight. The knock is the step to 1800m and the outside gate, but he should be closing hard.
He is unbeaten in two rides for this jockey and will take up the running. The question marks are a first try at 1800m and on rain-affected ground, with a couple of others likely to keep him honest in front.
Unbeaten in two starts this preparation, both times coming from last to win over a mile, which says he will relish the step to 1800m. He rises sharply from a Class 1 into this grade and has only had four starts, so he needs to keep improving.
The consistent one of the race. He has been running to a good standard without getting the breaks, closing off strongly over this trip on a heavy track last start after giving away a huge start, and he did the same here over 1800m the run before. He has a strong record at the trip, drops in grade, gets in light from the inside gate and handles wet ground. If the pace is honest he will be in the finish.
An experienced campaigner dropping out of Open Handicap company, and his last-start fourth at Toowoomba was better than it reads after he was held up twice in the straight and beaten a head. Three of his four wins have come on rain-affected ground and the jockey-trainer pairing has a strong record. The knock is that he is yet to win past 1640m and may get caught in the speed battle.

Quein Step has been the most reliable runner in this field, finishing in the first two in three of her last four starts at Gold Coast and Eagle Farm over 1000m. She has won here from a back-of-field position, and the expected genuine tempo plays to her strengths. The inside draw is the main concern, but she carries a light weight and is the best form chance.
Miss Mclaren has a terrific strike rate and has won on soft ground and at this track. She is a sharp sprinter who will need luck from the inside gate, but gets a genuine tempo to run at.
Concession has won over this course and distance and was running to a good standard earlier in the campaign. His latest effort was disappointing, but he led in a fast sprint that day. Settling midfield in a genuine tempo should suit and the stable is in form, but the wide draw is a concern.
Eagle's Fire is the only definite leader and has run into a place in several recent sprints at this track. He won last start and carries a light weight.

She has won two of her last three, including over this exact distance on Soft 6, and has finished strongly in each run. The step up to Class 4 is a small test, but a midfield draw from barrier 4 in a moderately run race suits.
A consistent type who ran a strong second over this trip at Gold Coast last start and has shown she handles soft ground. She should be on speed and gets cover, but barrier 9 means some work early. Dependable placegetter with a genuine winning chance in this grade.
A proven soft-track performer who won at Class 3 level on Soft 5 two runs before her last Gold Coast flop. She should get an easy position just behind the pace in a race lacking early speed, and the class drop helps.
Better than this grade on his earlier city form, when he won and ran to a high standard at Doomben. He returns from a long spell with good trials, and the Gold Coast record is strong.

Zoodoo is the best form fit for a soft 6 sprint. He is a proven soft-track winner at 1200m, naturally travels handy and should get a comfortable run from the inside in a moderate tempo. The stable is in form and the jockey combination wins at a good rate.
Smashing Nova is a consistent type who ran second here at Gold Coast from last in a BM58 sprint. If he gets a handy spot in a moderate tempo he can run on late. He handles the soft and runs near the best often, but he is hard to trust for the win given only one victory from 13 starts and a heavy weight. Best used as a place option.
His last two runs from the back at Gold Coast were strong, but he gets 200m further today in a likely moderate tempo, which makes winning from the rear harder. He's a frequent placegetter who rarely wins, and he has also lost ground at the start recently.
Dashing Hope is a soft-track performer whose latest run was very strong for the grade, finishing hard from the back at Sunshine Coast. She carries only 55.5kg and gets her chance if the pace is genuine.

Vale Bob McHarg (Bm65)
She is the one runner whose recent runs stack up to a winning standard, and she gets a big weight advantage in a Bench. 65. Her last start at Doomben saw her fold after leading a good pace, but a fast tempo here lets her settle further back. The wide draw and the stable's cold form stop her being a stand-out, but she is the most likely winner.
A genuine soft-track performer who is rarely out of the placings. Barrier 5 and a midfield run should give him a comfortable trip behind a fast pace. Top weight on a soft surface is a concern, and he has had trouble finishing off races.
He should be on or near the speed, but a wide draw may cost him ground. If he gets cover he has the ability to run a big race.
Il Fratello is the most likely winner on form. He won last start in the wet by a wide margin, finishing from the back. Barrier 6 is far better than the wide gates the other closers have. A very fast tempo should set the race up for him. He steps up in class, but his recent runs are good enough.
Champagne Lane has the best recent form of the closers and drops sharply in class after a Listed campaign. She won here at 1200m last month and her finishing sprint should suit a very fast tempo. The risk is barrier 18, and she was beaten last start on a Soft 5, when she was said to have not handled the going. The track is drying to Soft 6, which helps a little.
The unknown quantity of the race. He is a well-bred horse who has dropped hugely in class and has proved he can win on soft ground. A fast pace plays into the hands of backmarkers, and the stable is in top form. Gelding and blinkers coming off adds some uncertainty.
