A reliably placed mare who looks well suited here. She maps to sit close from a handy draw in a race lacking a genuine leader, which should let her travel comfortably in front of the closers. Her recent third over this trip on soft was a solid effort and she has repeatedly run well at the mile on wet ground. The negatives are 10 starts without a win and a stable yet to fire at Otaki, but on form and map she is the one to beat.

Vets On Riverbank Mdn
A steadily improving mare who has placed in three of her four starts, every one of them on soft ground. Her close third last start, produced with a strong late charge, was a good pointer. She is second-up today with a placing from her only prior second-up run. The concern is the wide draw and the step to a mile for the first time, but her finishing strength and consistency make her a clear top-three chance.
However, she gets back in her races and is drawn wide, which is awkward in a race where the tempo looks moderate and the inside draw is the reliable edge at Otaki. She has also yet to place at this track.
An honest, consistent mare who gets the ideal setup here: the inside gate where the Otaki soft-track edge is strongest, plus a light weight thanks to the claim. She has been placing regularly, several of them on wet tracks, and her rider knows this course well.

Aquashield Roofing 3yo
Its only start was a strong fourth at Hawera, and that run looked the best of any runner here when judged on time. It sat handy, ran on over 1200m and should be able to repeat that in a field of lightly-raced three-year-olds. Barrier 7 is only a mild negative.
The only winner in the field, and she has run well in each of her three starts over this trip. The wide barrier and a new jockey are concerns.
A filly with a good draw who finished well when fourth in a maiden on soft ground at Taupo. She will carry only 55kg and the jockey and trainer combination has been successful together.
A first-starter with a drawcard of strong connections: the trainer is in great form, the jockey wins at a strong rate at Otaki, and the draw is handy. With no form to question, the stable is the main guide.

Fastinternet.nz (Bm75)
He has won three of five, including a last-start BM75 at Hastings where he came from midfield on soft ground. His earlier heavy-track win was dominant. Top weight is a test but he has carried it successfully, and Kelly Myers knows him well. Barrier seven is workable. The one query is no Otaki experience, but his class should carry him a long way.
A proven 1200m mare on soft ground with an excellent fresh record. She has placed in all seven starts on soft and has won first-up before. She won her last start at Te Rapa in a BM75 over 1200 on soft. The 189-day break is a query, but her first-up profile is strong. Barrier three is ideal at Otaki, and Samantha Collett rides the track well.
A progressive four-year-old who is unbeaten in two starts at this distance and won her only start at Otaki. She drops to 54.5kg after winning a BM65 here last time, and she is two-from-three overall. The step up to BM75 is a test, but she is lightly raced and clearly on the up. Barrier two gives her every chance.
A consistent mare with a good fresh record and solid soft-track form. She has placed in five of seven soft-track starts and was a last-start fourth in a BM75 at Otaki. Barrier four is a plus, and she has won first-up before.

Ōtaki Tyre Repairs (Bm65)
This bloke has the strongest single piece of form in the race - beaten a neck over 1400 in a stronger BM65 on heavy ground two starts back, after winning his maiden here at Otaki. He settles midfield and should be finishing hard. The one to beat.
The safest horse in the race - she has finished in the first three in eight of her eleven starts, won here over 1400 on soft ground, and has placed in both of her fresh runs. Her best efforts last prep were up to winning this grade.
Improving mare who was a close third here over 1400 a fortnight ago, settling handy and sticking on well. She is fit, draws ideally in gate four and the stable has her going the right way. She still has to find a bit to win at this grade, but she is a sound place prospect.
Drawn on the fence and proven on wet ground, with a second at Hawera showing he can run to a winning standard at this level. His last start at Otaki was a flat fifth over 1200m, but the stretch to 1400m should help him. A genuine each-way chance with place appeal.
A genuine Otaki 1400m soft-track horse - six wins at the trip, one of them here on a soft deck in February, where he also has a second and is two from two in the placings at this course and distance. He resumed with a useful handy fifth at Hastings and strips fitter, settling on the speed from a good gate with a kilo claimed off.

Cavallo Farms & Chris Rutten Bloodstock Hcp
He is a genuine Otaki specialist who has won twice here and is well suited by the soft surface. The wide draw and a poor last start are negatives, but his best wet-track form is strong enough to make him the one to beat.
He ran a solid third in a Group race last time and has been a model of consistency, placing in most starts. He handles wet ground and drops in class, but he is yet to win at this trip and may need to be closer in a slowly run race. A strong place chance and a legitimate winning hope.
A class act who is a proven winner on soft ground and at Otaki. He looks the likely leader in a race that may be slowly run, and the claim helps offset his top weight. He ran respectably in a Group race only a week ago and won here two starts back.
Wingman is a genuine 1400m horse with a win and two placings from four starts at this track and trip. He resumed with a strong closing third at Otaki and should be fitter second-up. The class rise is the query, but his form around this distance is arguably the most suitable in the field.
A consistent mare who has been mixing it in stronger company and was a close fourth in a Group race last time. She drops in class, handles wet ground, and the jockey has a good record on her.

Harcourts Ōtaki (Bm75)
Afterglo looks the one to beat on form. She won her last start over this trip on soft ground, coming from off the pace, and she has two wins and a placing at 1600. The inside gate should give her a soft run behind a moderate tempo, and the light weight with the claim helps.
He was runner-up at Otaki last start after giving weight to the winner, and the weight shift in his favour today is a plus. He handles wet ground and has placed at this track. The concern is topweight over 1600 on soft, with his best recent form at shorter trips, so he looks more a place/win threat than a dominant pick.
Indian Pacific is a last-start winner in this grade at Otaki, coming from midfield to score on soft ground. He has a good record on rain-affected going and a handy draw. The obvious negative is the sharp weight rise after that win, and he is second up, so he may need to improve again. Still, his form line is strong enough to rate him a leading place chance.
The inside draw should let him settle handy, and he rarely runs a bad race.

Jennian Homes Feilding Cup
Won the Waverley Cup over 2200m on this sort of ground last start, settling third and quickening clear — the strongest staying effort among these. He drops out of black-type company, has a 36 percent winning strike and good soft-track and 2100m records. Trainer Kevin Myers is going well and Floor Moerman has won three of six on him. He races in the first half, which suits the steady tempo expected.
He won at Ellerslie over this trip on soft ground last time and was beaten a whisker in a strong open handicap on a heavy track before that. He has two wins and no defeats at Otaki, including over this course and distance, and is improving with each run this preparation. He races handily, which suits the steady tempo, but he does have to shoulder more weight than last start.
He usually parks on the speed from a good draw, which suits the steady tempo expected.
She ran second in the Waverley Cup last start, beaten less than a length by Sunset Boulevard, and meets that horse 4kg better at the weights today. From gate six she should get an economical run just behind what looks a steady tempo, and her wet-track placing record is honest.
Overpriced on his efforts earlier in this preparation, when he won two staying races on soft ground from the front. He led and was beaten by Sunset Boulevard at Waverley last start but now gets a three-kilo pull at the weights, and he has won here before. If he gets an easy lead in a slowly run race he could steal it, and his place record is strong. The risk is that his two runs before last were plain.

The Tele Ōtaki (Bm65)
He carries top weight but gets a 2kg claim and is trained by a stable going well. The main query is the step to 2100m from a wide draw in a likely slow pace; he may concede too much start, but his class and turn of foot make him the one to beat.
Last-start second at this track and trip on soft ground is the strongest local form reference. He settled handy and fought on, and drops significantly in weight with a 3kg claim. He has won twice at Otaki but both on heavy, and his overall soft record is poor, so the soft6 is a query. From barrier 12 he will need luck to hold a handy spot, but if he does he is a genuine winning chance.
Impressive last-start win at Waverley on soft ground, coming from well back to score with a strong finish. She is a soft-track winner and has a win and a placing at Otaki. The step to 2100m is unknown and she has a wide barrier, so she may get too far back in a slowly run race. But she is improving and brings the right form; if the pace is honest enough, she can run over the top.
Djibouti is the most progressive stayer in the field. She broke through over 2200m on soft ground last start and had been placing consistently before that, so the step to 2100m holds no fears. The inside draw is a major plus at Otaki, where low gates are the one reliable positional edge. The obvious query is the rise from maiden company to this grade, but her form and wet-track profile make her the one to beat. Rider not recorded in the data.
Her Hawera third on soft ground was a strong effort, running on well from midfield, and she drops from a BM75 last start to this grade. She has placed at 2100m and maps on-pace, which suits a slow tempo.
