Her Taupo maiden win was a far superior performance to Imperial Rose's win on the same day, and her earlier Ellerslie second over 1200m against stakes-type juveniles shows she has always had the class for this grade. She races handy, carries only 55kg and comes from a stable that wins at a high rate here. Her lone second-up failure was a barrier issue rather than a form line.

Savaglee Standing At Mapperley Stud 3yo
Rose Aye Reign brings the strongest class credentials in the race. The concern is her racing pattern: she gets back and the map points to a slow tempo, though in a six-horse field she will not be far away.
Admiral Vos is the map horse. He led throughout to win here over this trip and nothing else in the field is a confirmed leader, so with McNab aboard he should dictate a slow tempo and kick. The counter is that his maiden win was an ordinary performance against the clock, well below what Intan and Rose Aye Reign have produced, and he carries 2kg more than both fillies. A strong place chance who could steal it if the others give him too much rope.
Sir Richie is overpriced for a horse that keeps running honest races. He was beaten just over a length fresh at Rotorua over this trip, has started in a Listed sprint, and his juvenile Matamata run from the front showed real speed. Drawn in barrier 1 he should sit right behind Admiral Vos and get first crack at him if the pace is slow.

Tauranga Crossing Mdn
Purple Strike came from well back on debut at this track to be beaten under a length into second, and he does everything right today: better draw, a top jockey, and a distance rise that fits his run-on style.
On raw class Clara Bow is the best horse in the race, having placed in a Group 2 at Trentham and gone close in a maiden at Matamata. The reservations are real: she resumes from a long spell, her last run ended lame, and 1400m is shorter than she wants. The inside draw and a Good track help, and if the stable has her fit she can make her presence felt.
He races handy, which is the right pattern here, and the Bosson booking is a sign of intent. The unknowns are turf and the first look at a Good track, which is why he sits behind Purple Strike.
The Glamorous One is the overlay in the race. Resuming from a wide draw with a get-back style is the obvious concern, but Stephen Marsh has a fine Tauranga record and fillies from this stable often go well fresh.

Saddlery Warehouse Cambridge & Tauranga Mdn
He went very close over this trip on good ground last prep, running to a strong standard when third at Waverley, and he is a lightly-raced stayer-in-the-making who should be sharper for a leading stable. Gate 3 and Bosson are ideal for a turning track that rewards a handy, economical trip. The only niggle is the long break, but his class and map are the best here.
The class runner of the field, having mixed it at Group level over ground last campaign. Dropping to a maiden he could simply out-class these, and gate four with Kennedy is a plus.
An honest, race-fit mare who keeps finding the frame without winning. Her on-pace style should hold her in good stead on a track that rewards a forward, ground-saving trip, and McNab is a strong booking. Two things temper her: a wide gate forces early work, and she has never run on a good surface, with all her form on wet going. She looks a solid place chance rather than a likely winner.
The catch is she resumes after a long break for a stable and rider both going through a cold patch, and she tends to settle back and need luck.

Super Liquor Greerton Hcp (60)
The best form horse in the field on class and profile. The Tony Pike stable does well at Tauranga and the McNab combination has a big strike rate.
She has been competitive in similar grades and the Marsh and Bosson combination is a strong one.
A tough mare who has been placed in nearly every recent start, including a very good second at Tauranga from a wide gate. A better draw today and a drop in class give her a clear winning chance, although her win record is a concern.
Savina gets the ideal draw at barrier 1 and carries just 56kg with a 2kg claim on board.

Gartshore Construction (Bm65)
The form mare of the field and the one to beat. Today she draws barrier two, so she can settle much closer to a moderate speed. She has won twice on good ground and has been placed in both her starts over this course and distance. McNab is riding with real confidence. The one query is that she wins less often than she places.
A lightly raced four-year-old who is putting it together. He ran third over 2200m at Hastings last start after doing work early, was a close fifth at Ellerslie over this sort of trip before that, and two runs back he posted a performance good enough to win most middle-grade races. He gets in light with a two-kilo claim, and his trainer has a solid record at this venue.
That is the right form reference and his overall place record is excellent. The problem is the draw: from barrier 13 he will have to burn early to cross and lead, which leaves him vulnerable late over 2100m with top weight. A genuine contender for the minors, but he looks a shade short of the top pick's quality.
An overpriced outsider whose last-start effort was better than it reads. She was held up in a slowly run race at Matamata and still closed well over 2000m, which is the sort of run that often translates here. Barrier one is a real asset on this turning circuit and her trainer is going through a purple patch with a quarter of her recent runners winning.

Bayleys Mount Maunganui Hcp
Levakia is the most likely winner on form. Two weeks ago at Ellerslie over this trip she finished ahead of four of today's rivals, and her near-miss over 2100m on a good track in March shows the drying surface is not a problem. She sits handier than Boxmoss, which matters if Gospodin gets a soft lead and the race is run slowly.
She is a lightly-raced, progressive five-year-old who won last start, races forward, draws to get a soft run and carries the lightest weight of the main chances. The questions are the rise to Open company, where her best runs so far have been a step short of the top two, and an unproven record on good ground.
Boxmoss has the best winning form over this distance of anyone in the race and finished powerfully behind Levakia a fortnight ago. The problem is the map. He gets back, often after a slow start, and with Gospodin likely to get an easy lead the race may not be run fast enough for him to mow them all down on a turning track that favours handy runners. He also has nothing to show from two starts on good ground. A strong place chance who needs luck and tempo to win.
He has never been beaten at Tauranga over 2100m, has a strong record at the track overall and handles good ground. His first-up run over 1500m was a write-off for a stayer who was keen and never in the race, and his second-up record is much better. Small each-way play.

Aztech Signs (Bm65)
The best form runner in a compressed-weight field. Her recent efforts, including a game third last start, show she can run to a winning standard in this grade. Unproven on Good ground, but the track is drying and her ability should carry her.
A consistent mare who has been competitive in Bm65 grade, finishing second at her last start from a wide gate. Drawn barrier 2 with a decent weight, she should be able to find a handy position and be hard to shake. She is a genuine place chance but lacks a high winning ceiling, and she has no Good-track form to lean on.
The overlay of the race. He is more than capable of leading or being handy and has the fitness to stay on.

Bayleys Tauranga Hcp
The class runner of the field, dropping out of Group One company and beaten barely a length when third in the Foxbridge Plate behind top sprinters. He was placed in a Group Two here on wet ground earlier in the year. The knock is 62kg on a drying Good track, where his record is thin, but he can sit handy from gate four and is clearly the horse to beat.
A Tauranga specialist with two wins from three here and a sharp drop from Group Two company. He has won seven of 19 and ran on well when crowded at Te Rapa two starts back. The negatives are a plain recent formline and no win on Good ground, so while the class and course love affair are real, the drying surface stops him being a standout.
An improving type who drops in class, has won over this trip and gets in on the minimum. He races on the speed, which suits a slow tempo, and draws well in gate three. The concerns are that he is yet to win on Good ground and his rider is unconfirmed, but at the weights he is a live each-way chance.
The value play. Her best surface is Good, with three wins from nine, and she clearly likes Tauranga with two wins from four. She drops in class from Group Three and has been racing regularly, so she is fit.

Mills Reef Wines (Bm75)
L'aigle Noir has met much better horses than these and ran to a winning standard last start. He is second up and has a good 1400m record on Good ground. He should settle midfield and finish strongly.
Tiantai is consistent, resilient and well-ridden. She ran third over this course and distance two starts ago and has been competitive at this level. A moderate tempo should suit her handy position.
Bulgari clearly has the ability, as shown in his Group 3 form. Dropping into a Bm75 gives him an edge on class. The risks are top weight, a wide barrier, and a record that shows no placings over 1400m.
She is fit, was fourth over this course and distance last start and has the speed to get a good position with only one proven leader in the field. The big question is whether she handles Good ground and who rides her.
