He has won two of his last three and ran to a winning standard last start, and Berry is in red-hot form. He is not the top pick because he is jumping two grades in one go and will be racing from behind in a race that a lone leader is likely to control.

Toyota Forklifts (Bm78)
Force March is the most consistent horse in the race with six placings from seven starts and has run to a winning standard three times this preparation. He stepped up to metropolitan grade at Rosehill last start and ran a strong second. The wide barrier and a slowly run race are his hurdles, as he will have to come from midfield or worse.
She draws to settle fourth behind a lone leader in a slowly run race, carries just 52.5kg, and has placed in six of seven starts.
Spread The Love is the one horse in this field who wants to lead, and with no other on-pace runner showing a leading record he should get a soft time in front. At 52kg with Rachel King, he can set a tempo that makes life hard for the backmarkers behind him.

TAB Highway Hcp (C3)
He has placed in a Randwick Highway and won a Rosehill Highway in his last two starts, so he is proven at this class, and a very fast tempo should give him the race shape he needs.
A very fast tempo and a low draw suit a horse who runs on hard from the back, and the Cavanough stable is flying.
A rock-solid, consistent galloper whose last-start nose defeat at Wagga in a BM74 was run to a standard that would win this. He gets a good draw, a handy midfield run and drops in class, with the pace on in front for him to pounce. The negatives are a jockey in a cold patch, no 1400m win and the unknown of his first Saturday city assignment.
He is an improving six-year-old whose finishing burst will be aided by a very fast tempo, and the wide draw matters less for a horse that goes back anyway.

Mostyncopper (Bm78)
Last start he conceded three lengths at the jump and still made ground.
Lightning Glory has won four of five on firm ground, and his first-up fifth at Kensington under 60kg was a solid return in a race that favoured runners coming from behind. He drops to 55kg with the claim, draws barrier 3 and has a win from two previous second-up runs.
He resumes with two trials, a sound first-up record and Nash Rawiller aboard. The problem is the setup: 61kg, a likely lead role in a race expected to be run hard, and a good surface that has not suited him as well as rain-affected ground.
Arapawa is the overlay in the race. The stable is flying, he carries 56kg and the fast tempo suits a horse who can settle midfield and build into the race.

Four Pillars Midway (Bm68)
Alabama State is the most likely winner and justifies favouritism. He drops from BM88/BM78 company to a Bench 68 after a strong last-start win at Rosehill where he settled handy and proved too tough. The 3kg claim helps his weight, and his form on good ground is solid. The main query is his lack of wins at Randwick and 1500m, plus a backmarker's map in a moderate tempo, but his class edge is significant.
Cuban Cigar brings the best exposed form lines into this race, having run close thirds in a Showcase Open Handicap and a BM72 at his last two starts. He won a BM68 at Wyong earlier in the prep and has a strong finish. The concern is his get-back style from barrier 16 in a moderate tempo; he will need luck.
Dusty Bay is an improving stayer who won well over 1600m last start. He maps ideally from barrier 2, sitting on pace in a moderate tempo. The big query is the weight: he jumps from 54kg to 63kg, a significant rise, and he has not won at Randwick or at 1500m. He is a top-three chance on map and form, but the weight makes him vulnerable.
Spaceballs is the value play. She has a good overall place rate and is proven on good ground. The wide draw is a concern, but she can settle midfield and her light weight with the 3kg claim is a plus.

Alm On-Premise (Bm78)
Columbus was desperately unlucky last start when he chased a tearaway leader at Randwick, hit the front and was beaten a nose before losing the placing on protest. That run and his Kensington win before it were both to a winning standard for this grade. The step to 2000m is untested but his pedigree and running style suggest it will suit, and a moderate tempo with Zac Lloyd positioning him near the lead gives him every chance. Solid each-way proposition.
Koolibah has the most favourable set-up on paper with barrier 3 and 54kg in a race where the inside draw matters. Her first-up Kensington second was a strong run from the rear and her previous preparation included a 2000m win and a Kensington second that both met a winning standard. The long gap since her last run and a quiet trial are the queries, and she will need the race to be run at a genuine tempo.
Perisher is the most likely winner on form. His first-up Rosehill win in a Bm88 was the best recent performance in this field and he did it from behind under a sound ride. He has already won at this distance in Ireland, drops in grade today and the claim offsets the top weight.
Think Itz You is the value play. He is the likely leader in a race without a natural front-runner and a moderate tempo is expected, so he gets his own way in front with Tommy Berry. His Newcastle win was a strong effort and he has stayed 2000m at Group level.

E Security Group (Bm78)
Ertijaaj shares favouritism and deserves it on form. Her flop at BM88 last time came when she over-raced and was caught wide, which is easily forgiven. Back to BM78, from barrier 2 with Tommy Berry riding in top form, she should find a trail behind Metallic Cat and be the one to beat.
Chix is a winning type with four victories from seven starts, and her resuming win at Kensington was a strong effort that stands up well against the better runs in this race. She races forward, draws barrier 3, and the moderate tempo should let her sit just behind the leader with Zac Lloyd.
Metallic Cat gets the run of the race as the lone leader with Bon Holler and Girijaala the only others likely to press. Her 1300m wins came on soft ground but her Rosehill second on a good track was strong. She was found out at BM78 last start, which caps confidence, but with Tim Clark back aboard and an even tempo she can give a big sight.
Enamorada is the class horse of the race on her autumn form, with a Randwick win and a close Bm84 second that stand above anything else here. The negatives are real: top weight, the outside gate, a long layoff and an unconfirmed rider. Each-way protects against the fresh run falling just short.
She has placed in all three resumes, including a win, and her trial and jump-out form says she is ready. She races on the pace, which suits the expected even tempo, and her country wins last preparation were run to a standard that would be competitive here.

The Russell Balding Stakes
He is three from three at 1300m, won the Missile Stakes here in August with a run that stands up against anything in this field, and held his ground in The Everest from an on-pace spot while Jimmysstar was held up behind him. With a lone leader and a moderate tempo likely, his ability to race midfield and sprint is the right profile, and he drops in class with 1kg less than the top weights. Berry is in strong form.
He won the Group 1 Manikato from last two starts ago and was closest on the line in The Everest after being blocked for a run. He has won three of five at 1300m. He is not the top pick because the map is against him: from barrier 16 he will settle near last in a race with one leader and only moderate speed, and Ninja beat him home from a better position a fortnight ago.
Headwall produced the best run of any horse in this field a fortnight ago when fourth in The Everest, finishing within a length from well back. He gets 2kg off Jimmysstar and draws the inside, and he is a model of consistency with places in seventeen of twenty-one starts. The problem is the map: he settles last and the likely moderate tempo behind a lone leader makes it hard to make up ground on this track. First time at 1300m is a minor query.
Caballus is the value runner. He draws barrier 1 and will sit in the first four, which is the right spot if Wanaruah leads at a moderate tempo and the swoopers struggle.

Asahi Super Dry Golden Eagle
She has won three Group 1 races this year, including two at Randwick, and her Randwick Guineas and Doncaster wins remain the strongest performances anyone in this field has produced. A fast tempo plays into her sit-and-sprint style.
Skyhook has been the model of consistency this preparation, winning two Group 2 races and then going down narrowly in the Silver Eagle in what was his best run yet. He handles 1500m, having won the Shannon Stakes over it, and he can take a sit rather than lead so the predicted fast tempo helps him. The wide draw is the obvious issue but he has won from barrier 13 before.
Beiwacht is the class leader of the on-pace brigade with two Group 1 wins this year, and his Silver Eagle third from the front under a big weight was a sound trial for this. The concern is the map. His best wins came when he dictated on his own terms and he has folded when challenged early.
Apocalyptic beat two of the top three selections to win the Silver Eagle a fortnight ago, and she did it in a strongly-run race that mirrors how this looks mapped. She is a genuine Randwick specialist with four wins here, gets the mare's allowance and has an in-form Tommy Berry aboard.

Sydney Gold Cup
Anthracite is the form horse and the map horse. With no other confirmed leader and a slow tempo predicted, he gets to dictate under 53.5kg.
He meets Anthracite 1kg better off and is the most progressive horse in the race. The concern is tactical. If the pace is slow and Anthracite controls it, he needs luck from midfield.
Starzintheireyes ran well behind Anthracite and Barrengarry at Rosehill carrying 59.5kg and was found to be coughing afterwards. He drops to 54kg today and will settle closer to the speed from barrier 4, so the weight swing and the map both help. The problem is that he keeps finding one or two better, with four seconds and no wins on good ground.
His Irish form over this trip and his potential make him a logical top-three chance, yet the evidence does not justify him being shorter than Anthracite and Barrengarry, who have both run faster here.
Tavi Time has won both of his starts at Randwick over this exact course and distance and is now third up, his best stage of a campaign. His last-start third here under 61.5kg was run at a standard that wins Listed races, and he sheds 3kg today.

Catanach's Jewellers (Bm78)
Where'stheprofit is a genuine 1100m specialist with four wins from four at the trip and six from seven on good tracks. His last-start victory at Dubbo was dominant, coming from off the pace to win by nearly four lengths. The step up to metropolitan company is the query, but his form is strong enough to suggest he can handle it.
Whatalegacy is a promising 4yo who won impressively at Canterbury two starts back, leading throughout on good ground. His last-start failure on soft going can be forgiven, and he returns to a firmer surface here. The fast tempo is a concern if he gets locked in a speed duel, but from barrier 4 he can take a sit just behind the leaders.
Somerton Smart is an improving 4yo who won nicely at Tamworth last start, coming from off the pace. He has a good record on both good and soft ground and gets in with a light weight. The fast tempo should suit his running style if he can settle midfield.
Two starts back she won at Rosehill over 1100m, coming from well back in the field. The strong tempo predicted here suits her closing style, and she gets in with a light weight from barrier 1.
