He ran a close third over this course and distance last week in a race worth more than today's, drops in class, and gets a weight pull. His soft-track form is sound, including a near-miss on a Soft 7 at Belmont. He is a genuinely consistent type who has never run a bad race at middle distances this campaign. Slightly short for a horse with two career wins, but he is the most likely winner on form and the race lacks depth behind him.

Wittens Irrigation And Design (Rs1mw)
The most talented horse in the race on his best effort, a dominant Ascot mile win on soft ground that was a class above anything else in this field. But he was beaten fairly last week over 1800m when the pace was steady, and now goes to 2200m for the first time with top weight and a history of racing keenly.
She maps to be forward in a slow race from a good gate. The problem is the surface: she has never won on soft ground in 20 tries, so her best outcome is probably another placing. She is the obvious each-way play for the frame but hard to back to win in these conditions.
An honest mare who has found a new lease of life since the gear change and won easily last start over a similar trip.

TABtouch - Westspeed Platinum (Rs0ly)
Linchpin has won three of four at 1400m, ran to a winning standard when second in this grade last start, and was Listed-placed on a soft track in July. He gets back and the tempo may be slow, but in an eight-horse field that matters less and he has won from the rear at this trip before.
Bondi's Future returned from two years away to lead and go down narrowly in a better race than this. Fitter now, but the wide draw, 60kg and unproven soft-track form make him vulnerable, and that first-up race was not run at a strong tempo.
Street Band is the consistency runner of the field. He has placed in every one of his six starts on rain-affected ground and was a close third in this grade on a soft Ascot track last start. The slow tempo suits a horse who will settle just off the leaders, and he gets a handy weight relief. Hard to see him beating both Linchpin and Bondi's Future, but a very strong place prospect.
Soldier Of God is the overlay. He gets the inside gate and the lightest weight today, and he handles soft going. The query is whether he can see out 1400m, having not placed at the trip.

Schweppes (Rs0ly)
Late Arrival is the most reliable form horse in the race. He thrives on rain-affected ground, settles handy, and gets the inside gate in a race likely to be run at a muddling tempo behind a lone leader. His Ascot second last week was a strong effort under 58.5kg, and his second-up run on a Soft 5 was at a higher grade than today.
However, the race map is against him. With a lone leader and a slow tempo likely, he will be last or near it and must run down fresher on-pacers up the testing Ascot straight. His wet-track record is thin on wins.
Admire Astra brings the best class profile in the race, having placed in Listed and Group 3 company over longer trips at Ascot. Her first-up second here was a brave effort after leading. The slow-tempo map suits her racing style, but barrier 13 and 58.5kg make the job harder, and her soft-track and second-up records are too thin to be confident.
With barrier 1, a slow tempo and the lightest impost in the race, he will get every chance to be in the finish again. His wet-track form is mixed, but a heavy-track win shows he can handle it.

Choices By Dallimores (Bm72+)
The concerns are real: a wide gate, a slowly run race and a short straight all work against a horse coming from behind. Still, she has shown she can sit closer when ridden to do so, and she is two from two at Ascot over 1200m.
Progressive mare with a tremendous soft-track record who returns from a spell with a trial under her belt. The gate is kind and the weight is light. A slowly run race and a short Ascot straight are the main questions for a horse who does her best work late.
The map is his biggest friend. Horcrux has the gate and the early speed to control a slowly run race, and he was a clear second in this grade on soft ground at Ascot in April. His last run should be forgiven after working hard from the widest gate. He is honest rather than brilliant and the booking of an inexperienced Ascot rider is a concern, but if he gets his own way in front he will be very hard to run down in the short straight.
The overlay in the race. Timeless Gem has quietly run two very sound races this preparation, including a Kalgoorlie second and a last-start effort at Ascot where he finished ahead of Horcrux while carrying 4kg more than he does today. He has winning soft-track form, his best 1200m runs are good enough for this grade, and he will be positioned where races at Ascot are usually won.

Anaconda Jones has run to a winning standard in every start, handles the wet, and won at Ascot on soft ground as a two-year-old. He drops to 55kg against hardened older sprinters and should be forward enough from the inside to stay out of the mid-pack zone that struggles at Ascot.
Delzee is the progressive horse in the race. He has rarely been far from the winner, and his Ascot win last start was achieved with authority after tracking the speed. The expected fast tempo from six natural leaders sets up perfectly for a horse that sits fourth or fifth and lets down strongly.
Spicy Thang has the best wet-track credentials in the field and her last three runs before the spell were all of winning quality in this grade or better. The trainer wins at a good clip at Ascot and the mare has placed fresh before.
Just Famous is a clear overlay at twenty dollars. He is a genuine wet-track performer with a winning record on soft and heavy ground, is racing well with a last-start win, and his get-back style is exactly what this race shape favours if the six on-pace runners cut each other down.

TABtouch - Placid Ark Prelude
His closing second to the Max Simmonds winner on Soft 5 last start was the strongest run in this field and he was still making ground at the line over 1000m. He won the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate second up last preparation on the same going, so the pattern and the surface both suit. The slow tempo and top weight are genuine concerns for a backmarker, but his class edge over this Open field is clear and a step up to 1100m helps.
Consistent colt who has run to a similar solid level at every start, including a Heavy 8 second and a strong Ascot win. He resumes with a trial under his belt and a fresh record of 2:1-1-0. The query is whether he can match the two class horses here, as his runs have been a touch below the top two, and the midfield settling position is historically the hardest place to win from at Ascot.
Dominant two-year-old who won the Gimcrack over this trip but her two runs on soft ground have produced a third and a sixth, which is the main query. Her first-up run was better than the result after an awkward start and a three-wide trip without cover, and she has trialled since. The lone-leader map with a slow tempo suits a filly who will settle third and kick early.
The upside play. The last-start flop at 1400m came with a slow recovery and she has had 56 days to get over it. With the lightest weight bar the leader, a good draw and a slow map, she can be in front at the turn.

Drummond Golf (Bm66+)
A progressive four-year-old mare who has won all three of her starts on rain-affected ground and has never been beaten over the mile. Last start she came from midfield to score at Ascot over 1400m and the rise to 1600m looks ideal. She does jump sharply in grade from restricted races into open company, and gate 10 means she will have to push forward, but her upside is the best in this field. She is the one they all have to beat.
An honest on-pacer in the best form of his career, having won at this track and trip last Saturday after doing work in the run. He drops to a light weight and draws perfectly in gate two, so with a moderate tempo he should get the run of the race just off the speed. The quick back-up and a rider short on recent wins are the concerns, but he is racing too well to leave out.
A quality young stayer who won three on end last preparation, including over this trip at this track. He is unbeaten second-up and that is exactly where he sits today after a plain resumption. The knock is his get-back style: in what shapes as a steadily run race he will need luck and a clear passage from a tricky gate, and his regular rider has been replaced. Class alone keeps him in the finish.
A consistent on-pacer who was a close third in this grade at this track a fortnight ago after leading or stalking the speed, and who won over the mile at Kalgoorlie before that. He has a strong record with this rider and trainer and should be prominent again.

TABtouch - Prince Of Wales Stakes
Immortal Bliss is the form pick because he is a proven wet-track sprinter with Listed wins over this trip. His Beaufine victory showed a sharp turn of foot, and he has raced consistently since. The draw and likely moderate tempo are concerns, but his class and fitness edge make him the one to beat.
The soft track is a query, though, and she has not raced for some time.
Twisted Steel is an improving four-year-old with a smart 1000m Listed placing to his name. He trialled well for this and should map nicely from barrier six. The lack of soft-track experience is a slight worry, but he has won on heavy and looks a solid each-way proposition.
A proven Ascot 1000m performer with three wins and a second from four starts at the trip here. He was Group 3 placed last prep and was not disgraced when bleeding in the Beaufine after giving away weight. Fresh form is strong and he maps to settle handy. The bleed issue is a risk, but his class and course record make him the clear second pick.
Dawn Dancer is the value play. He is the likely leader and gets a handy weight pull as a three-year-old. His soft-track form is strong and he has won several times over 1000m.

Hosemasters - Asian Beau Stakes
Hot And High has won seven of eight, is unbeaten at Ascot, and her Crawford Stakes win two weeks ago came over Awesome Boy and Playin'it Sweet with the rest of this field further back. Her runs have consistently been of a winning standard for this grade, and her Belmont Guineas win over a mile shows 1400m is ideal. The soft track is her only real unknown.
Back to 1400m where he has three wins and two placings, he now has the option of leading in a race with no other confirmed pacesetter, and his front-running Belmont wins show he is dangerous in control. The light weight helps.
Playin'it Sweet is the consistency play, placed in all 13 starts with seven wins and a Listed victory over further than today. She was fair rather than brilliant behind Hot And High last start, but she has the strongest wet-track credentials of the main chances with a heavy track win and soft placings, and the step to 1400m on a soft surface may turn the tables slightly. Lucy Fiore's record on her is outstanding. Hard to see her out of the first three.
She was narrowly beaten in the Eurythmic Stakes over this exact course and distance two weeks ago after losing ground at the start, and she is at her best second-up with four wins from six attempts. She handles soft ground and has won eight times at Ascot.

Lawn Pride Australia (Bm66+)
His resuming win over 1200m here was the strongest performance in this field, done from the back under a big weight, and he has already placed at Listed level over this exact trip. He handles soft and heavy ground, and the step to 1400m second up is ideal.
Western Lady is a classy, consistent mare who has won two of three first-up runs and signalled her readiness with a dominant 1400m trial. She has won over this trip at Belmont and her record at Ascot is sound. She is drawn to get a soft run midfield and the Grantham stable goes well at this track. The query is the soft ground, which she has never encountered, and whether she is sharp enough after racing over staying trips last time in.
Prince Of Dala is the main danger. He went through his first preparation winning three of five, finishing it with a brave nose defeat in the Listed Belmont Guineas, which is far stronger form than most of this field has shown. He has won fresh before, trialled nicely and should sit just behind the leader from a good gate, which is where you want to be if the tempo is slow.
Territory Man is the overlay in the race. He is one of the few genuinely proven wet-trackers in this field, having won on Soft 6 and run second on Heavy 8 over 1400m, and he has an outstanding first-up record. His last run was poor but that was over a mile with new gear and he was then spelled. A strong trial win, a light weight, the inside draw and a top jockey make 16 dollars too generous for a horse with three wins from five starts at the trip.
