Best form fit on the day. She was second on a Soft 5 Canberra 1000m last start, a run that matched the standard needed here, and her soft record is sound. She should settle handy behind the likely leader in a moderate-tempo race.

A 52-day gap since a poor run is also a concern. She is respected for the place, but is not good enough value to be the top pick.
He is the only proven early-speed type and should control a moderate-tempo race from the front. He has been placed in most recent runs and gets a class drop.
She has won over 1200m on Soft 5 at Canberra, and a sit just off the leader rather than in front could see her finish better.

The one to beat. He came off a wide trip at Nowra to place on soft ground, then ran a closing fourth at this track over 1200m with 60kg only a length from the winner. He maps to settle just off the lead in a race short of early tempo, and Brodie Loy, who rides this course better than most, stays with him. No wins in seven is the knock, but this is clearly his best opportunity yet.
The likely leader in a race where the tempo looks slow, which makes him dangerous. His best run this preparation was a brave second at Bathurst over 1400m where he led and was only collared late, and he also placed at Goulburn. The query is that he has led and weakened at his last two, and he overraced when leading at Bathurst last start. Still, with an easy lead he can give a sight.
Resumes off a three-month break with fitness the query, but she maps to race on the speed from gate three in a race lacking tempo. She ran third on a heavy track at Newcastle and has placed form around middle distances, so 1300m fresh is short of her best trip.
Her second at Queanbeyan on soft ground over 1200m was nearly a winning run, and she was placed at this track over 1000m.

Regor is the form horse of the race with back-to-back wins, the latest a tough 1200m success on soft ground at Nowra. He has the speed to hold a handy position from barrier one and should be suited by a moderate tempo.
She has been racing in stronger company and has had a trial since her latest run.
Miss Fennell brings the best class lines into this race, having gone close in Highway company and won on soft ground. Her first-up record includes placings and she has a jockey who knows this track. The major concern is a 430-day break and a wide draw, so she is selected on ability but with less confidence than the top two.
She won well on soft ground last start and her earlier runs suggest she has ability, while her handy racing style and light weight suit this moderate-tempo race.

Only four wins from 13 starts but four seconds as well, and he has been mixing it in deeper city company than most of these, twice beaten only a length or two at Rosehill, Warwick Farm and Canterbury. From the inside gate he should lob into a lovely trailing spot behind a moderate tempo. The knock is that every win has come on rain-affected ground and his last two have been one-paced, but he still rates the safest winning chance here.
The wide draw matters less for a horse who goes back, but 1300 metres is a genuine query — no wins from four and both his 1400-metre attempts last time in were poor. Placed claims look stronger than his winning chance.
Her stable is going well. The risks are the extra early pressure up front and a modest record on soft ground, but on form she is the one to beat.
Won over this trip at Wagga last start, putting a plain run two starts back behind her, and that looks a strong form reference for this. She races on the pace, which suits a race where the tempo looks even, and the inside gate means she'll be in the first few without spending a penny.
A genuine rain-affected-track mare whose campaign featured a strong country plate win on soft ground and a fighting second in the rich Country Championships final on heavy going. She was outclassed in the Kosciuszko last time but this is a big drop in grade, and a fast tempo sets the race up for a mare who settles back and runs on hard.
A four-time winner from just 12 starts who resumes with a win and a second from two first-up attempts and a recent trial at this track. He has the natural speed to be in the firing line from barrier 10, and his two runs in Open company last preparation — a fourth here and a nose second at Bathurst — are good enough for this.

Soviet Storm is the one on the up. He produced the strongest recent performance of any of these when he charged to the front at Goulburn on a soft track and was only collared in the final strides, then had no luck when caught wide throughout at Bathurst. Dropping back to 1000m suits a horse with natural speed, he carries less weight than the topweight, and the speed map places him right on the heels of the leaders in a moderate tempo.
But she resumes from a long break, has never placed first-up, is a get-back mare who needs the race run to suit, and the rider has yet to win for the yard. At the shorts she is one to take on rather than lean into.
Snowden's gelding is the likely pace influence from gate eight and was a strong trial winner at Randwick since his latest run. His Beaumont third on soft ground in August is the best performance of his career, and the stable's record at Canberra is excellent. The knock is that he has led and folded at his last two starts and carries the topweight, so he is one to have in the exotics rather than at full confidence.
The value runner. He then struck a wide trip at Nowra last time and was never a factor.

The Hard Road is a progressive last-start winner who produced the strongest finishing effort in this field when scoring at Queanbeyan. He maps to sit handy from barrier five in a race lacking a genuine speed influence, and Brodie Loy's fine record at Canberra is a plus. The step from maiden grade and first run on soft ground are the queries, but his upside and recent winning form make him the one to beat.
Hellfighter is the safest form horse in the race, having placed eight times and run well at Class 1 level on soft ground. He drops into a suitable mile and should get a nice midfield trail from barrier one.
She gets back in her races, which is a concern around Canberra, but the fair mile start helps and Damon Budler is riding well.
She ran a close third at this track and distance last start and was previously placed on soft ground over 1650m.

Harvey Norman Commercial (Bm60)
Snap Decision brings the strongest form lines into this — a closing third at Nowra two starts back after a luckless effort at Albury, and before that a dominant mile win where he ran to a high standard. He settles midfield and finishes hard, and his pedigree and running style point to 2000m being in his favour. Top weight is the obvious concern, but he is used to carrying big weights and this is a drop in class.
She is improving, handles soft ground and clearly likes Canberra. The knock is her get-back style in what shapes as a slowly run race, so she will need luck and a strong last 400m to repeat.
Miss Defy is the proven stayer of the field — two wins and two placings from six attempts at 2000m, and last start she was a close second over the trip in a stronger race at Albury.
Midnight Affair is the probable leader in a race that may be run at a modest tempo, and she drops a long way in class from the company she has been keeping. She was second over this track and trip two starts back and won three on end at the mile earlier in this preparation.
