He won here over this trip, has placed in three of four starts on rain-affected going, and his recent mile runs at Tatura and Murtoa were close-up behind handy horses. Last start he charged home for second at Bendigo. He maps to sit just off the lead in a race lacking a genuine on-pacer. The main knock is a stable without a winner from its last twenty, which is why he is a clear pick rather than a confident one.

Two Tarts Catering (Bm56)
The most impressive last-start winner in the field. She was bumped at the start at Wodonga, settled midfield and swept past them to win with something in hand. Her Wangaratta placing on a wet track over a similar trip says the mile and the going will be fine. A lightly raced four-year-old still on the up. The negatives are the class rise and an inexperienced rider having his only ride of the day.
A mare who should land in the first three or four, which matters in a race where the lead is up for grabs. She was wide and honest when second on soft ground at Casterton, and at Echuca last time she never got a clear crack at them. The rider is going well and rides this stable successfully. The knock is that she has had four goes at the mile without a placing and has found one better far too often.
His first-up run here over 1400m was better than it reads: he was held up from the 500m to the 300m and again late, so he never got to fully let down. He has won on soft ground and twice over the mile, and he should be fitter now.

Border Inn Jericho Qualifying (Bm70)
The clear standout on paper. He has never been beaten over 3200m in five attempts and is a genuine mudlark with seven wins from sixteen on soft. He won a 3400m race by a dozen lengths and his rider knows him inside out. Recent flat runs over shorter trips were sound rather than brilliant, but Payne has been bringing him along through the hurdles for exactly this. The one to beat.
A genuine staying type who has twice finished third over 3100m at this exact level and loves wet ground. He sits off the speed and runs on strongly, and the recent pattern at Echuca favours closers over on-pace runners. Honest and consistent, he should be in the finish, though he finds one or two better more often than he wins.
He brings the best recent form into the race and was a strong finisher for third over a shorter trip on soft last prep. The concern is stamina - he has never won past 2800m and was one-paced over 2400m at Geelong last start. A genuine contender for a placing on class and closing speed, but the step to 3200m asks a real question.
That is the best pointer for this race among the roughies. He handles wet tracks, stays strongly and drops to a winnable grade.

Bourke Builders Mdn Plate
The most reliable runner in a weak, winless field. She was only narrowly beaten here over the same trip last start, is second up and should settle on or near the speed from a good gate. With no strong leader in the race, she can take a handy trail, and the soft track holds no worries.
Resumed with a solid fourth, was slow away, and still finished on well. The strong jump-out win since then shows she is progressing. Back-of-field runners have a better record here in sprints than at most country tracks, which suits her. She is unproven on a soft surface and needs luck from the back, but she has the most upside among the unexposed runners.
A consistent placegetter who has handled soft and heavy tracks. He ran a gallant second on soft two starts back and has finished in the first three in three of his last four. He is a maiden for a reason, with a lack of finishing punch and a hard-to-win-with jockey, but he is the safest of the experienced runners for a place.
The only runner who is likely to lead, in a moderately run sprint where nobody else is keen to press on. He was a gallant third on soft at Wangaratta last start after leading throughout, beaten only half a length.

Echuca Toyota Mdn Plate
She is fitter for two runs back and her last run was a solid fourth at Ballarat where she did the work wide without cover. She has run to a high standard on soft ground over 1000m and looks primed to break through, though a wide gate means Ryan Hurdle will need to find her some cover early.
A two-start filly who showed speed first-up at Ballarat before fitness told late. With that run behind her, a second-up lift and top connections she is a genuine threat; the concern is a tricky gate that makes leading over 1000m hard, so she may have to settle closer to the speed than ideal.
Lightly weighted four-year-old who drops to a country maiden carrying little after a three-kilo claim. All her racing has been at this 1000m journey, she has placed on soft ground and her first-up run is a forgive effort after she reared at the start. Second-up she should be fitter, and her midfield style suits a fast-run Echuca sprint where closing runners get their chance.
First-starter from a stable that knows how to ready a maiden winner, helped by a two-kilo claim. His recent trial on soft ground was encouraging and he has shown enough to be competitive on debut.

Murphys Turf & Landscaping Mdn Plate
Second-up, with the rail draw and a handy position in a moderate-tempo race, it is the best form-based chance in a weak maiden.
Celestial Option ran its best race last start and has since trialled well, including a win on a soft surface. It is a consistent type who should be in the first half of the field, but it has never won in seven starts and the barrier is not ideal.
It has not yet placed, has been slow to begin and is likely to settle back in a moderate tempo on a soft track.
Some Chance has been beaten only narrowly in several maiden runs and has trialled well on soft ground. The map is open, with no strong leader, and she should be handy from the middle draw. The trainer's poor form and her habit of finishing fourth are concerns, but at 11 she is the best overlay in the race.

Moama Bowling Club (Bm56)
Bow Ribbon brings clearly the best recent form into this, having run to a winning standard when successful at Mildura two runs back and placing in stronger company either side. He drops from BM66 company, handles wet ground and has won fresh previously. The moderate tempo should let him settle midfield and produce his strong finish.
She maps to settle handy in a race without a genuine speed battle, and the winkers go on first time. She has won on heavy ground, so the softer surface should not bother her.
Black Adam is a genuine soft-track horse with three wins on rain-affected ground. He should lead or race outside the leader in a race lacking other speed, and the drop from BM58 company helps. The query is the top weight and the fact he weakened after leading last time, but with a moderate tempo he can control the race.
A fresh specialist who has won twice first-up, handles soft ground and has already won at this track. She jumped out nicely in preparation and drops back to a grade she is competitive in.
Stepify is a lightly raced filly who won impressively on soft ground over this trip at Penola last start. She has scope for further improvement second up and her trainer is good with this type. The concern is the big class jump from maiden company and the fact she will get back in a race where backmarkers are not advantaged.

Bet365 Top Finishes (Bm56)
Won last start at Bendigo and is in the best form of the genuine closers. Has won at Echuca on soft ground, handles wet tracks, and the likely fast tempo plus the track's tendency to reward backmarkers in sprints suits his style. The best form claim in a wide-open race.
Her recent form at this level is strong and she has the speed to find a prominent spot, but the wide gate means she will either burn energy or settle further back.
Her last-start win was one of the strongest efforts in the field and she brings terrific early speed. The question is the soft going, which is unproven, and a hot tempo with Ottalaus alongside could take its toll late. Jockey and stable stats at the track are poor, but the ability is there and she is hard to leave out.
Beat a similar field here on soft ground over this trip in August and now returns to an easier grade. The stable has a strong record at the track, and the likely fast tempo helps a horse who settles off the pace.
