Street Legal is the most likely winner on form. He is a proven fresh performer, has trialled well, and from barrier 4 should sit just off a soft lead with a clear run. The knock is that he keeps finding one better, but this field is weaker than most he has met.

He faded late in both juvenile runs, including here over this trip, and comes back without a public trial. He is the clear second pick and the main danger.
Scooped is the fitness horse of the race and will be sliding up alongside the leaders from barrier 2.
Light Brigade is the value runner. He ran well on debut when leading at Strathalbyn, has won a jump-out since, and the speed map suggests he could find the front without pressure if Street Legal and Scooped are content to sit behind him. Each-way only.

She returns to maiden company first-up off a winning jump-out, with the Jolly stable and Jake Toeroek a potent combination.
Artison is the most consistent runner in the field with three placings from five starts, and her strong finish from last at Gawler on good ground confirms she is in form. The concern is a get-back racing pattern over 1050m in a race likely to lack genuine pace, which can leave horses like her flat-footed.
Her trial form is tidy without being dominant, the Hickmott stable is in quiet form with one win from its last 20, and she draws in the barrier band that has done poorly here over sprint trips. Arizona Dreamer and Artison have both shown winning-standard form in real races, which she has not.
Madam Moneybags is the one runner who can dictate the race. She is the only confirmed leader, draws barrier 3 and the tempo looks moderate, which plays into a front-runner's hands over 1050m. Her Gawler second with blinkers on was a big step up and only a nose from winning.

Shogun Chikara did everything right bar win on debut at Gawler, racing keenly and greenly yet still going down by a nose, and that run stands out as the best in this field. He is the quickest beginner here, draws well and should land on the pace in a race lacking genuine tempo pressure.
Empress Of Kirk took a big step forward at Strathalbyn with blinkers applied, charging home for third from well back. She is the lightest weighted runner and the step to a mile suits her get-back style. The concern is the shape of today's race, where two leaders should keep an even but not fast tempo, leaving her to do her work from the back.
Pretty Morsel is the reliable placegetter of the race, having filled a minor placing in half her starts and run well both times she has tried 1600m. She draws to sit on speed from barrier 4, carries 2kg less than most and likes a Good track. The problem is she has had 18 chances to win a maiden and keeps finding one better, and her trainer's record at this track is poor. She is a logical place chance rather than a winning one.
Fullheadofsteam is the only genuine leader in the race and should get an uncontested run in front with the tempo expected to be moderate.

In a race without a second genuine leader he could dictate terms. But he carries top weight with only one win to his name and he has folded after doing the early work at his last two starts.
The class dropper of the field and the owner of the strongest single run in the race, a rattling second in a stronger 72-grade event over 1400m at Murray Bridge, with a similar effort at the mile in Melbourne. He gets back, which is a risk with only one leader engaged, and he is yet to win on good ground in seven tries, including a plain effort here last start after being interfered with.
Third-up and out of stronger 64 and 68-grade handicaps, which is the profile that wins class twos at the mile. Both his wins have come on good ground and he has a mile win on his card. First-up he worked home strongly over 1200m and the step to 1600m suits. Drawn in the band that does best at this trip here. His Morphettville record reads badly but those runs were in much deeper company; the moderate tempo should let him settle closer than usual.
He races on the speed, which suits here, and the wider mile draws have been performing well. The knock is the jump from maiden grade to a Class 2 and the first try at 1600m, plus a rider in a quiet patch. He is the value rather than the safest.

His Balaklava second a fortnight ago in a stronger handicap was the best run anyone in this field has produced on a Good track, and he has already won at this grade over the trip. The last-start failure came on a rain-affected surface with a gear switch and should be forgiven.
Koratora will lead this field without pressure and has placed at her last four starts, which makes her the most reliable place proposition in the race. The concern is the surface: both wins and her best efforts came on rain-affected going, and she weakened late the last time she led on a firm track.
His Horsham run was better than the finishing position suggests and the drop to a restricted grade with Noel Callow aboard from a good gate is a real upgrade.
Sahha Sweetie is the overlay. Her Balaklava eighth first-up read poorly on paper but she ran a time close to the winner's standard behind a rapid-finishing field, and she has a strong record of improving at her second run back. She should be positioned behind Koratora in a race with little pressure, which is exactly the setup she won from at Balaklava last winter.

He has won three of his last four, his Strathalbyn win over two of today's rivals was the best recent run in this field, and he is a proven 2500m performer on good ground. The big weight and his habit of getting back are the risks, particularly if the pace is slow, but he worked forward and won from the front at Coleraine and has the class edge here.
The reason she is not the top pick is reliability. Three wins from 34 starts, a stable change with no form to go on, an inexperienced rider and a wide draw as a backmarker in a slowly-run race all add risk, and her recent efforts have been honest without quite reaching a winning standard.
Magnetic Edge is the best of the on-speed types for a race that lacks a natural leader.
Octahedron is the value runner because the race shape favours him. With no proven leader among his rivals and a slow tempo likely, he can dictate from the front over a trip he has already shown he handles. His record at this grade reads 1-3-2 before two runs over 3100m against better horses, and the class drop is significant.

Sportsbet John Letts Cup
He placed in both Listed cups this spring, the Murray Bridge run coming after racing wide without cover, and then won the Gawler Cup with a perfect stalking ride. Tonight's map is a replica: Sir Kingsford leads alone, Bamyan Buddha sits third with cover from barrier 3 and pounces in a slowly-run race.
The concern is that his last two runs were weak, with no excuse at Caulfield, and both jockey and stable are out of form.
Talisay has done little wrong this prep, winning over this course and distance before two narrow seconds at BM80 level, the last of them running on hard from well back at Morphettville. Her form reads as strong as any horse here, and she drops to 54kg. The worry is the map: with Sir Kingsford set to control a slow tempo, she will need the race to open up from the rear.
Sir Kingsford is the race's tactical wildcard. He is the only true leader, draws the rail and the map points to a slow tempo, which is the exact setup in which he ran Bamyan Buddha and the rest ragged for a nose second in the Murray Bridge Cup. His failure at Gawler came after being hunted along too fast, and the stewards' report backs that excuse. Each-way suits his boom-or-bust profile.

Peter Elberg Funerals (Bm56)
He won this very race fresh last year from near last, ran to a genuine winning standard for the grade, and nothing else here has matched that at Morphettville. His recent form reads poorly but every one of those runs was on heavy ground he has never handled.
His Balaklava win was a good front-running effort and he will almost certainly lead again here with no other confirmed leader in the race. The reservations are real though: 62kg is a big ask, he has never fired at Morphettville, and both his second-up runs have been unplaced.
Musical Sunset was as good as any horse in this field when running placings and winning as a maiden earlier in the year, and her two efforts since have both come with excuses. The Balaklava third was behind Mercury Eight after settling further back than ideal, and the last-start flop came after being trapped wide from a horrible gate.
Justadexter is a genuine each-way roughie. She has a poor win rate, but her last-start effort when leading at Strathalbyn was better than the result suggests, and her only career win came fresh. The real appeal is the combination of the trainer's remarkable Morphettville record, a light weight, and a map that will have her sitting in the box seat behind a top-weighted leader.

Frontpoint sets the standard on his best recent work. His Strathalbyn Bm56 win leading all the way and the wide-run fourth at the same track were the strongest runs this field has produced lately. Last week he jumped awkwardly and was then rushed around the field to take on the leader in a Bm58, so the result can be forgiven. With no proven leader engaged he should land in the first four from the wide gate.
His Murray Bridge second carrying 59kg showed he can win this grade, and Callow's booking plus a quiet run from barrier two make him a clear place chance. Against that, he was trapped wide and well beaten at Balaklava, the stable is cold, and a first-time gear change on an eight-year-old is rarely a confident sign.
Kushan Khanivale is the reliable each-way type of the field. He finished a close second at Strathalbyn two weeks ago running on from well back, and his record shows he is placed in close to forty percent of his starts. The question is whether he can win rather than place, as he has only three victories from a long career and a moderately-run race will leave him with ground to make up from midfield.
Hell's On Fire is the on-pace play in a race where no runner has a consistent leading record. With the lightest weight after the apprentice claim she should either lead or sit outside the leader, and in restricted grade that position wins more than its share. Her Balaklava third on good ground showed she has the ability for this class.
Sazerac is the overlay in the race. She did not finish off at Gawler but her time that day was still respectable and she carries a feather weight from an inside draw. The concerns are real: she prefers rain-affected ground and settles back in a race that may not be run quickly.

Kirin Ichiban (Rs0ly)
He has a sound 1800m record, handles good ground and will get a fast pace to chase thanks to Easy Beast and Capulet up front.
Before that he was honest over 2000m at Morphettville and won over 2000m at Bordertown. From barrier 4 he should land in the first half-dozen, and with Easy Beast and Capulet likely to set a solid pace he can pounce on them in the straight.
Big Rita June produced the best run in this field last start, charging home widest to finish a close second at Strathalbyn and beating Yorokobi and Silvaloa. Her previous third at Morphettville was sound and she has always shaped as a horse wanting 1800m. The fast pace will help her, but she has won only once and the rider and stable are both out of form, which tempers confidence.
Lumber Dream is an 1800m specialist with four wins from nine tries at the trip, and his Halidon victory two starts back was good enough to win a race like this. He bombed the start last time at Gawler and was never in it, but he was still making ground late. Today he drops to 55.5kg, gets a genuine tempo to run into with Easy Beast and Capulet up front, and meets a field full of horses who struggle to win.
