He ran a genuine third on soft ground on debut, and in a field of maidens with plenty of doubts he is the one most likely to lead and dictate a slow tempo.

A1 Tyrepower Wangaratta Mdn Plate
A hardy, consistent maiden who has been placed on soft ground and ran on well over this trip at Bendigo. Last start he was badly held up at Wangaratta and still finished sixth. He is a sound place chance.
The best of the debutants on trial form after winning at Albury and running third at Wangaratta on soft ground. She gets light weight and should be fit. The wide barrier and the jockey's poor record here count against her, but the stable is in form and she has the best chance of the first-starters.
She has been running to a winning standard over the past month. She has a handy speed profile in a moderately run race. The soft going is untested and the wide draw can cost her ground, but she's a consistent type who can run into a place.
Her second here last start over this trip and going was a strong maiden run. She was keen in front and still only just beaten. Settling a touch closer in a moderate tempo should help.
A mare who has been competitive without being able to win. She is likely to be handy in a slow-tempo sprint and has a strong jockey and trainer behind her.

Mirraway ran a strong second at Wodonga last start, finishing on well, and has since trialled well. She is second-up, carries a light weight and should get a midfield run.
Style Guide has been the most reliable performer against this grade, with solid runs including a strong second on soft ground. She should be handy in a slow-run race with the lightest weight.
His form, however, shows he has been headed and weakened in the straight each time, he is unplaced in five starts, and he carries top weight.
Briar Island has only had two starts, but both were respectable efforts and she ran home well at Bairnsdale over a shorter trip. Stepping up to 1590m with a light weight and a handy midfield position is promising.

McGregor Machinery Mdn Plate
The clear form pick. She settled third at Wangaratta last start over this trip and kept finding to run second, beating the rest comfortably. Her Avoca third before that was also a solid staying effort and she has now hit form at the right distance. With a slow tempo expected she should lob into the box seat from gate eight and be the one they have to beat.
He has the best single run in the field, a fighting second over 1700m on a soft track two starts back. Both runs since can be excused: he was taken back from a wide gate over 2100m at Echuca, then slowly away at Tatura.
Absence of race history is not a negative in itself, and the soft going should suit.
Everything about her pattern says 2000m now suits, and this is a maiden with very little depth behind the top two. In a slowly run race she can sit midfield and grind past some tired ones.

Ovens Ford Wangaratta (Bm52)
The most reliable horse in a thin race. Maps to settle third from gate two with no obvious leader to cut at him, he is a soft-track winner and he got through 2000m when leading at Kilmore before being outgunned late. Last start he was held up at the 400m then worked home for fourth.
Veteran campaigner who has done the bulk of his racing over this journey and was a solid fifth last start at St Arnaud after making ground from well back. He drops into a grade he is competitive in and draws to settle handy, which suits a race lacking a genuine leader. Two wins from 45 starts says he does not win often, but the four seconds at 2000m says he is rarely far away in this sort of race.
Expected to take up the running from gate six in a race where the tempo looks slow, and the run at Stony Creek where he led and stuck on for third on soft ground shows he handles these conditions. He drops out of class one company and his last run at Wodonga was honest after missing the start.
Both of his career wins have come on rain-affected ground and he gets conditions to suit. Last start over 2050m at Wodonga in this grade he was slowly away and gave away a big start before working home for fourth. The stable is firing and a 1.5kg claim helps.

Sportsbet Feed (Bm52)
She ran second at Wodonga last start in this grade, and that run rates the best in the field. She drops in class with a light weight, goes well on soft ground and should find the lead or a spot just behind it. The wide draw is the main risk.
A reliable type who nearly always runs a place. He has early speed, and in a race with a moderate tempo that is a real advantage. His recent form is solid and in line with this class. The concern is that he rarely wins, with a single victory from 50 starts, and the 59.5kg doesn't help.
Prince Rupert has the best record on soft ground in this field and has been finishing well from the back. He drops in class and has a trainer in form. The drawback is that he usually settles well back from a wide gate, and a moderate tempo can leave him with too much to do.
A veteran whose recent runs are better than his finishing positions suggest, as several were compromised by being held up.

Zamora is the only genuine leader in a race expected to be run at a moderate tempo, and his last start at this level was a near win after leading throughout. He handles soft ground and is fit. The weight and thin win record temper enthusiasm, but he has the best form and the best map in this field.
Densetsu is a consistent type who ran a gallant second at this class at Wodonga and is dropping in grade. He is a proven soft-ground performer and should be handy.
Belmasai is proven on soft ground and has run solid races at near this level, including a fourth on rain-affected ground last start when sitting second. He should find a handy trail behind the leader.
Enigmatise gets in light with 57kg and posted a strong run at St Arnaud last start when she was crowded for room and beaten only a length.
